downloaded gentoo spent about 4-5 hours trying to follow the instructions
gave up after typing commands into some parting program for about an hour or 2
turns out it erased all my drives and i have nothing to go back to
what should i do now? posting from my phone atm, should i go back and finish what i started? can i really let it get away with beating me like this?

Maybe you should try a distro that doesn't need babysitting all the time. Try ubuntu or mint.
Luis Moore
just download ubuntu on someone elses pc, who the fuck starts with gentoo
Evan Perry
wanted to try linux out, gentoo is always mentioned
i know it's a meme but didn't think it was actually this autistic

Also: try booting the live cd and see if it has a way to connect to the internet and a program called dd, if it has just download an iso from the internet and burn it via dd

>downloaded gentoo install ubuntu instead

install kubuntu you dumb nigger
David Edwards
if you submit it was all for nothing op
download debian to a flashdrive and install it to another flashdrive or a internal hard drive
you can even get a live image where its pre-installed
all your programs can be accessed in aptitude or synaptic
debian/arch wikis will help with any questions
if wifi or gpu doesnt work enable the non-free repos
if you want newer software go to testing or unstable which is surprising pretty stable
install firefox and shitpost on winfags n applels who try and direct your path
later learn how to change out every program and customize your own personal distro (this isnt ricing because ricing is aesthetics that dont effect function or preformance)

If I was you, then I'd look into recovering the old partitions first (I've been in a similar situation, but I don't remember what I used to recover the data, I just know that it's on the Manjaro liveUSB). The data's still there, basically, since parted doesn't zero partitions. Then I'd shrink the Windows partition if there's any free room on it, install Ubuntu into a new partition there and copy over any music, pictures, whatever to Linux. If you've got the room, then you could copy everything and sort it out later and just delete the Windows partition to get room for the Linux one.
Don't start with Gentoo, that's like tossing a baby into the deep end of the pool.
Ryder Cook
also install ntfs libraries to read windows drives or make a ext3 / fat32 partition to trasfer files to and from linux to windows

If this really happened I'm a bit sad for you. If this is bait I'm sad for myself for replying.
You don't start with Gentoo if you know nothing about Linux. You don't really even need Gentoo for anything, Ubuntu or Mint could do everything you need and they install in like 5 minutes while only asking you your name and stuff. Your second mistake was to try something new on your only computer so that you only have a phone left now. That's pretty stupid.
Christopher Collins
everything said, and you should have backed your important files up just install ubuntu

This is obvious bait, anyone believing this is a fucking retard.

If you don't know what you're doing, why did you choose Gentoo?

>gentoo Linux is basically a meme, but gentoo? That's a meme of memes, within a meme.
Adam Thompson
You are really dumb if OP asks for an advice. If you are OP, then kindly fuck off and play with your usual turd software and hardware as usual. Gentoo have a decent tutorial, if someone can't follow it, then he is a retard or a troll.
Ryan Butler
Yes, everything is a meme so it doesn't have any meaning.
