/pmp/ thread

Personal/portable music player thread (/pmp/)

Some anons asked me to post about a recently finished guide for converting an ipod video 5G/5.5G to a rockboxed player with an msata SSD and a 3000 mAh battery. I did not get to reply before the last thread fell off the edge of the earth Here's the guide, nullvoid.station.moe/Freedom-Hardware/Video5G-Rockbox/

What else is in the news for /pmp/?

-Rockbox 3.14 release
battery life for Sansa clip claims to be doubled
After the update I have been having battery drain issues. Not sure if anyone else has been having them or if my hardware is starting to fail

Why use a pmp?
dedicated devices are subjectively more comfortable when:

-you want a dedicated player with a large storage capacity
-you want a small player for physical activities
-you want a dedicated player in situations where you don't want your phone tied to any cords

Posting my zip clip when the clip broke
RIP clip

>Why use a pmp?
Don't forget the fact that with a PMP you don't need to deal with touchscreen bullshit

Got this as a gift from 5 years ago. Such a neat little thing. I don't know why phone manufacturers don't put a Play/Pause button between the volume buttons.

>I don't know why phone manufacturers don't put a Play/Pause button between the volume buttons
My last few phones have had one

Damn. Dedicated dude. Thanks my man

PMP usage will increase your phone's battery life, both in terms of a single charge and the overall life of the battery.

Been usong a clip zip for a few years for workouts. Is there a better alternative these days or should I just keep what I have?

yeah, i'll go with "what are headphone controls", Alex

>Why use a pmp?
So you can be a hipster faggot.

Something that's nonexistent on many headphones.

xD

no problem, hope it's clear enough and helps save some time

Looking for a cheapish one that can take a 64gb micro sd and supports flac, ogg, and wav formats . Don't want to spend too much but don't want something that will crumble In my hands either

I've had my AGPtek Rocker for about a week now and it's pretty great so far, interface is pretty responsive and bluetooth is reliable, unfortunately the screen is prone to scratching and the paint is starting to come off the corners from riding in my pocket.

I own an iBasso DX50

Never looked back

Quick question. I took a look at the Fiio X1 2nd Generation and it looks pretty worth if for the money. However, I know that the first generation X1 supports Rockbox, how well does the 2nd gen do?

AGPtEK M20S
AGPtEK ROCKER
XDUOO X3

Checking these out , thank you.

>He needs a fancy colorful screen to listen to music
Nice meme kiddo.
This is the greatest music player of all time. No memes, no audiofool bullshit, just perfection.

I've been trying to find a Firewire cable for mine, shits expensive as fuck.

I still have my original, thankfully.

Why did Sansa have to discontinue the Clip+?

I've yet to find to find a suitable alternative after my one bricked. Fuck you, Sansa.

just put some clear tape on the screen, worked for my X02

I have the AGPTek A02 2017 version and it is really bad and I can't imagine any other model is much different. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.

>Something that's nonexistent on many headphones.
shit headphones

Is this 2002? Everyone has an iphone or alike.

>$200 headphones
>shit

There's no upper limit on sd card with rockbox, right? I do know that on official firmware Zip has limit because of shitty database.
What max capacity anyone tried?

Sandisk Sansa Clip+ 8GB Black
Rockbox 3.14
Kingston 32 GB microSD
VE Monk+

Official Sup Forums kit except for the microSD (should be 64 GB sharks)

Forgot to ask. Recommended L-shape adaptor?

Monks have straight jack

How's the battery life?

xD

what am I looking at exactly?

This ancient motherfucker, connected to a chink powerbank. I can't find that blue part where the battery goes.
t. king of Sup Forumshetto technology

liliputing.com/2017/04/might-best-mp3-player-can-get-1-50.html

No there isn't a limit, I've filled a 64gb with MP3s (V0 or 320).

I miss my old Clip+, you can't get them in the UK for under £65

So I'm looking at micro sd cards and want to get a 64gb one but some of these companies and fluctuating prices make me think some are not legit, anyone's had experience with some of the sketchy ones?

Bump

So what's wrong with just using your phone again?

Nothing exactly but the sound quality could be a bit worse, it supports less formats and the actually important part for me is the lack of dedicated physical buttons.

this is my Ruizu X02. It has a 64GB microSD card + 8GB internal storage. The player itself was $12, and the card $20. So for about 30 bucks I can play anything I want. Sounds great, haven't had the battery empty on me yet, and supports flac/ogg/mp3 which is all I care about.
(thanks /csg/)
i mostly use it when I jog/lift. my phone is bulky and annoying to have in thin exercise gear. this thing weighs nothing and is super tiny.

I just want one of these with at least 32gb or a micro SD slot.

it was the best version of ipod.

did u have any issues with the ata driver, i have an iflash solo in mien with a micro sd to sd adapter. when i begin to transfer music to it it takes forever or just stales. I have no idea what the issue might be im on windows and i just re flashed/reinstalled the ipod with both

forgot something its an ipod video 5.5, and the sd card is 64 gb

I've never considered a pmp before, what are the benefits?
I might interested in picking up a cheap small one that I can use to listen to music while out runnin'

like this it started then just stops and time builds up

>he fell for the iBasso meme
Fiio X5 > all

What? Those prices where?

So, is there any plan to port rockbox on current devices? Looks like all models on the list already out of production.

No rockbox though

>XDUOO X3

For a moment I thought that was emoticon spam.

How is the sound quality? Heard many good things about these and i'm about to buy one.

Of course not.

I never thought i would ever see one being used again

Looking to replace my ipod nano 6th gen as it doesn't work on linux or have flac support.

>Budget
£100 max, less is better

>Size
not an issue as long as it fits into pockets

>Battery
15h+ while listening to flac / lossless

>Bluetooth
not a priority

>DAC
would like to have good quality audio

I would try and rockbox the ipod, but from what i read, the firmware has issues, so no rockbox support.

You are probably better off just finding a used android phone with an sd card slot

I thought about it, but I want to avoid anything google related if possible

Same here. One of my best purchase ever. I started using Spotify premium not so long after so I don't use it that much but when I do it's always a pleasant surprise.
Question : what's your main source of FLAC album ?

5th gen iPod Classic. Transcode to ALAC or Rockbox it

Model?

clipfags, post battery stats.
Got mine at launch and still use it e v e r y day.

17hrs on 3.13
23hrs on 3.14

PRAISE ROCKBOX.

if im not wrong thats a gen 1 classic

back when tech products were still interesting

anens do you have a recommendation for ipod classic (slim 160gb) batteries ?

I get barely 9 hours out of mine these days

It wouldn't hurt to resize the images on your blog m8
Sorry fahm :(

I just put 3.14 on it
hope I get atleast 12h out of it now

I use a dumbphone.

does it come with fm radio? and in the same vein...can it record said fm radio?

Yes, it comes with FM Radio. It doesn't record.

damn
thanks, user

It would just take a firmware update to make my Zune usable again. Just unlock the thing and let me use FLAC, Microsoft. Come on.

I still use my Zune 120 almost every day. 30gb first gen is stored in some drawer but still functional.
FLAC support would be heaven, specially for the 120

>specially for the 120
Definitely, and if I could use it with any ol' media player, I'd still be using it now. The thing still works, just not for me.

Should do m8, it seems the average is about 5hrs.

aliexpress for the player, amazon for the microsd.
did an A/B test with good headphones on the X02 vs phone and can't really tell a difference. I'm sure to an audiophile there's something to pick at, but my ears don't hear any issues.

I bought mine way before the FiiO started making their own music players

I've been fiddling with a Sansa Clip with Rockbox on it, but haven't really used it much.
Is there anyway correct tracklistings without doing it manually? Everything is displayed in alphabetical order! Using Music Bee as well.

The Clip+ was meant to be a replacement for my old ipod classic, but i'm not that impressed and don't really see why it's so hyped. Wish I went for a Fiio.

Cayin N5 is cute

my 150gb ipod classic's HDD broke now i need to replace it with a SSD what model do i get

Which company is the sd card you're using ?

parents are buying me a mp3 player for my 25th birthday wats good one to get

It's the same as an AGPTek, it's shit, do not buy.

Anything with a stable rockbox port and options for large storage is good enough for me

I use an axon 7, it has hi res audio and the best phone DAC.

I have not had any transfer problems with my install (see OP, hynix ssd with generic chink msata to zif connector)

Who still Zune?

no battery drain problems on 3.14? I've had a situation after the upgrade where I would wake the player to discover a drained battery.

Not sure if firmware or hardware is failing

I still love this thing. I've been using mine again ever since my phone died on me a few years ago.

that's a good point I left out
it's nice to flip through playlists with the least effort.

Is the Zishan Z1 any good?

I need something that
-i can put as much memory (sd) as i want, best if it has 2 slots and/or up to 256 gb
-a relatively good screen
What are the chepeast options for this?

a phone
you're asking for too much out of an industry that has long since stagnated

Sell your 30gb brick Zun for profit, the brown one appeared in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

FiiO X5 2nd or 3rd gen.

Ive seen chinkshit with two 128 gb slots or one 256gb slot

Anyways then what chep phone support up to that?

What would you recommend then?

Bought a first gen brown Zune from thrift store a while back. After much mucking around got it talking to Linux. Any tips on it?

This is my first time seeing this thread, is /pmp/ new?

Idk, I came over from Sup Forums because that place is straight garbage
