Left laptop running in backpack and it got very hot. There is now a discolored area on the screen that looks like when pressure is applied to a screen.any ideas why or if it can be fixed?

I have a desktop I use for muh games. And I have thought about dual booting.
I was wondering, though, with how deep Windows 10 is in everything that goes on with the operating system, would it even make a difference? There will be some record of what you have done on your hard drive when Windows 10 loads back up.
This is partly theoretical, but I am seriously paranoid about this.
Aside from that, I haven't really been into muh games recently, so I thought about just wiping Windows 10 off entirely and going full Linux. I actually tried this right when I build the machine, but I kept running into compatibility errors with the graphics card.
So i guess 1) why dualboot if its all the same shit and 2) how do I fix graphics card compatibility errors in Linux.

> be me > send $20 to developer for access to current build of furry porn bondage game > coded in unity > it doesn't run on my 12-year old machine > probably because only 4GB ram > dev is too busy drawing furry porn on picarto to address the problem
wat do?

I'm using Corel Draw 2017, and I want to import some 900kb .psd file, but it gives me an "out of memory error" whenever I try it.
Task manager says I'm at about 25% memory usage out of 16gb ram in normal shitposting configuration. Shit ought to be fine, I'd think. it's literally just a fucking logo.

I installed Ubuntu (LXDE) on my desktop and compared to windows my cursor moves very slow and trails really far behind, like using stabilization in an art program or something. Turned off acceleration and it's still just as bad. My specific mouse is recognized by it, too. Is there a fix? I'm only finding fixes for it refusing to move at all for a second, not being constantly lagging.
I looked at it in the store, however, and noticed the screen has this very blatant criss-cross pattern all over it, which was an instant turn off no matter what's inside. Size is not the biggest concern, but 15.6" or bigger is preferred.

Where can I still get CD sized (700mb) iso's of modern linux distros?
Caleb Gomez
I found an old HP m7067c in my garage, and I know it has a composite/s-video/rf capture card on the back and on the front like pic related (which may not be the exact same HP, but the case/layout look the same).
Does anyone know what the capture card(s) in this system are specifically? Can I take them out and put them in a new desktop provided the motherboard has a slot for them?
I believe the capture card may either be a Hauppauge or Asus.

2 SQs:
1. I'm planning to write a small script (probably in python) to check for tv series epsidode updates. Is there a better way to check than to grab data from sites that already do this same thing? I don't know a better way to find out when episodes get released
2. Are VMs perfectly safe in terms of isolation from the main partition? As in you could screw around and mess up the VM with as many dodgy things as you want and it would never manage to leak out?
Owen Cox
you could just take one that isn't, extract it's squashfs file, chroot into it, and uninstall stuff you don't need on it and generate a new squashfs/iso to bring it under 700MB
The external hard drive is cheeper, but if it doesnt last as long as the flash drive then I'll get that.
Jeremiah Adams
1: have you looked at sonarr? 2: that's the intention, though vm-escaping malware is a thing that has happened, you could consider sandboxing the vm software with another tool for an additional layer of protection, such as with firejail. unless you're deliberately fucking with malware in it though, you'd have to be pretty unlucky for anything to happen
Kayden King
sonarr is basically what I want, but I just wanted to make a personal super lite version rather than sign up for a site or have to install an external program
my question is basically where do services like sonarr get their data from on new episodes? i'd rather cut out the middle man than take it from someone who is already taking it from someone else
Oliver Rogers
*LXLE Haven't been able to get the letters straight. Probably doesn't matter though.
Eli Fisher
sonarr is a standalone program which pulls it's information from public databases such as the thetvdb.com you'd probably want to do the same thing in your own program at the very least you can use sonarr's sources to help you make your own

How do i monitor the temps for my Ryzen 7 1700? Speccy doesn't show me and HW is a little misleading. While idle, like in pic related, it shows three consistent temps but while under load the two on the lest are usually low compared to the one on the far right. Example: 40 C 40 C 72 C

I found it, but it didnt work What I'm trying to do is to upload some torrents to TPB that I just have access to the magnet link. When I upload the .torrent file that I got from this folder to TPB it gives me "Error - Filename error." I also tried to use a magnet - torrent converter online

I want a 2+ drive RAID 1 capable backup enclosure that isn't a piece of shit for under $150. Does it exist? All the ones I see have tons of negative reviews where windows will decide the drives aren't formatted and shit like that

Is there anyway of install Linuix on my Windows 10 machines in duel boot mode without fucking up my current machine? I've got a backup drive and I've only got 50 GB full on a 2 TB drive.

Can I boot without an IGPU?
Was just running my R5 1600 with GTX 1070 when the computer froze and the speaker emitted a horrible screech before the video failed entirely. Been working fine for about a month. Trying to see if my GPU died, but I can't even get a display when the monitor is plugged directly into mobo, probably because no IGPU? Everything else works fine, can even log into windows (I hear the login sound, but no display).
Angel Ward
I damaged my phone's microusb charging port.
How easy would it be for me to fix this, as someone who currently has no tools or experience in hardware?
Dominic Martinez
heil?
Oliver Jackson
depends on your phone
some are easy, some impossible
Luis Sanchez
Can anyone else confirm this?
MSDN site now requires sign in with a microsoft account to view hashes of iso
Lucas Clark
How long would it take in years to certify in official Java certifications from a programmer to an architect?
Christopher Long
Well seeing the R5 1600 has no iGPU, how would you even check?
One method is installing teamviewer in unattended mode on your pc and then check display on another phone or internet connected device/pc.
Julian Carter
If you didn't change any hardware the windows should automatically activate online (click skip key during install), provided it was successfully activated on upgrade from 7 to 10.
If not try to use win 7 key.
Jose Reyes
>Well seeing the R5 1600 has no iGPU, how would you even check?
That's exactly my problem. I can't get any display. Mouse/keyboard work fine, fans are spinning, can login to Windows I just can't get a display. Monitor works fine with other devices. So with no IGPU I get no signal at all even plugged into the board. I'm guessing my 1070 died.

Can I make EDGE play webms on Sup Forums? If not what browser do you recommend? Don't want to use chrome and firefox is slow and buggy. Edge is fast as fuck but I cant see fuckign webms

17.04 if you have newer hardware. 16.04 otherwise.

I want to install a custom android rom. Is there a reliable way to backup all my apps, app data and other data so it's immediately usable in the new ROM?
Nicholas Kelly
What should I prepare for before studying I.T. (Information Technology) I'm fresh out of highschool.
Is the course math heavy? What language should I prioritize studying on my free time? Any habits to avoid? or sometype of beginner's mistake to avoid.
Colton Thompson
step 1: do a full backup of everything from in TWRP before you go further (than installing TWRP). this is your fallback if you end up wanting to go back to how it is now step 2: use something like oandbackup (foss, f-droid) or titaniumbackup (paid) to do an app-level backup, which can be restored individually on other roms step 3: install the new rom, don't format internal or external storage, that's where things like pictures/videos/whatever is and shoudn't need to be messed with when changing rom step 4: restore what you want from your app backups
some settings will need to be done manually, due to differences between roms, and anything that modifies the system (usually root apps) will need to be done again, as system edits are done in the space that was replaced with the new rom (for example, installing busybox, applying adaway...)
once everything's back to how you want it, consider a new backup, so you can always come back to it
James Torres
also worth noting that in some cases you can keep your /data, meaning no app backup/restore needed, but you should only expect that to work if it says it does for example, updating lineage to a new version of lineage is seamless, needing only system edits to be done again
Jonathan Hughes
Thanks
Easton Ward
oh, and to give a quick explanation of the storage locations i mentioned; /system: this is the rom contents, typically read-only, needs root to edit it /data: the editable part of the system, apps, their settings and system settings are stored here. typically will need to be formatted when changing to an different, incompatable rom internal storage/sdcard: self-explanatory, they're their own spaces, and are usually rom-indepedant, though there are things that can make them partially dependant, "moving" apps onto them

If I install qt5ct my qt apps look like *pic*. If I delete it and *rm -r .config/qt5ct* the problem is gone. How to fix? I need qt5ct to make select *gtk2* theme and icon theme so not installing qt5ct is not an option.

hp's website isn't helping much but the fact that it comes with a pentium 4 doesn't give me much hope for the capabilities of the capture card inside
HP says hauppage wintv 88x, hp's website doesn't list anything newer than xp drivers
Liam Foster
short answer: nope long answer: i mean come on man there's literally no GPU in the system now that your 1070 is dead, why would it boot
William Hill
really depends sometime's it's soldered into the main board, sometimes it's on a cheaper daughterboard that isn't too much to replace
Christopher Taylor
Does anyone know if there's a way to download apps on an iPhone once it's been removed off of the App Store?

i'm not making my complaint as if i don't already know the literal dozens of free antiviruses to choose from, but rather that it's a waste of a post and an unfunny meme.

samsung SSD magician wants to update.
Why now? From 4.5 to 5.1 no less. Will this "update" open backdoors and start tracking me? I'm paranoid because it's never updated before. That's over 5 years of no updates

Has anyone managed to successfully filter all brap postings yet with Sup Forums X? I feel like it's possible if you filter certain strings of letters but I haven't been able to do it yet.
Robert Mitchell
>all brap postings
I'm not too up-to-date with shitposting, can you post a few examples?
Ian King
do people still do that? haven't seen one in ages /B{2,}R{2,}A{2,}P{2,}/i
Liam Perez
just responses with "brap" with the letters multiplies an arbitrary number of times usually in response to a picture of a butt supposedly it's meant to be an onomatopoeia for farting
Benjamin Powell
or perhaps /b+r+a+p+/i
Christian Ross
yea that's equivalent not sure why i wrote it like i did some of my filters are messy due to being made as i was figuring out regex, and being tweaked every now and again
Jace Murphy
I heard talk about windows now blocking updates on Win 7 and 8.1 if you install a current RX or GTX series graphics since it's no support like ryzen/kaby lake CPU's. Is this true?
Nolan Gutierrez
more like the os won't install
Easton Hall
So you're telling I will allways need to have an current Image of my win 8.1 install in case I ever upgrade any hardware in the future and my install brakes and I cannot reinstall fresh with the upgraded parts?
Nicholas Cooper
very well might be

You can set up a sync account that lets you sync various shit like bookmarks once you log in to the same account on another device.
Christopher Gray
Does that sync all bookmarks? Or only selected ones? Any other way to do it without adding botnet?
Joseph Bell
It syncs all of them and I'm pretty sure there are other ways too but I never bothered using other services.

when debian stretch becomes the new stable, how do I upgrade my jessie into stretch?
Ethan Reed
>Is the course math heavy? depends, but for me it was okay in my country. >What language should I prioritize studying on my free time? Depends what you're gonna be studying. learning C before going in might teach you the basis, and force you to code algorithms. Some people might argue you should go with C++ or java or even python since it's more high level and teach you OOP. Different point of views there are pros and cons and you're the only one to take the decision in the end. >Any habits to avoid? or sometype of beginner's mistake to avoid. always save your work, always test your code (don't wait to have done a lot of things else you'll have too many things to debug), try everything that comes to your mind, try doing some projects. You'll do mistakes that you'll correct and won't do during your courses + it will teach you'll have more experience in how to structure your program. Linux is the best OS when having to program use makefiles, even if you use an IDE, use a custom makefile (very useful when programming with other people). use git if you have to work with someone on a project don't skip any course and listen to the teacher. IT is quite easy, just by attending and doing the projects to graduate. If they don't give you projects to do, do some, using what they teach you.
Owen Lee
1. open /etc/apt/sources.list 2. replace all instances of "jessie" with "stretch" 3. if you can optional list files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ do the same with them 4. apt-get update 5. apt-get get dist-upgrade 6. after it is done, reboot
Oliver Baker
I guess you'll just have to modify jessie to stretch in your sources.list
Charles Mitchell
saved, thanks user
