Are there some words and phrases you can't use anymore because of their association with the nazi regime?

probably just heil hitler and so on
Answering with Jawohl!
Volk
:^)
A lot.
ausmerzen = to eradicate sth
Mädel = used to mean girl, now replaced by Mädchen
Führer = used to mean leader or conductor
entartet = degenerate
Volksgemeinschaft = something along the lines of national solidarity
Volkskörper = used to mean population, now Bevölkerung is preferred
Volk itself is usally avoided and people talk about Bevölkerung which just means population.
I took a few years of Deutsch in high school and we always used madchen. Why do you no longer use madel?
Hitler Youth used Mädel.
>Führer
Touristenführer, Gruppenführer, Kraftwagenführer, Führerschein
We still use Führer.
entartet caused a shitstorm as it was used by some conservative casually, but we use ausarten/es artet aus! instead which is basically the same but noone is angry about it for some reason.
Then, yeah all the political words they made, like Volkskörper, Volkgenosse usw.
Mädel is also still ok.
ausmerzen is considered edgy.
Rasse in general shouldnt even be mentioned.
>We still use Führer.
But only in composite words. The word by itself is tainted and everybody knows it.
Austrians still use it
We use Stadsführer signs for German tourists. It sometimes causes grinning amongst the younger locals.
Bullshit, its not even common here in the east, but people occasionally use it. Then again, its the east...
The greeting "mit deutschem Gruße" is forbidden.
It simply means "with german Greetings"
Words with "Volk" in it are still commonly used, for example the Bild tabloid often has advertisements like Volkshandy or Volkstablet and shit
you wont have much fun if you're born 1988 or your initials are ss.
Reminds me of a little political joke here...
Back when the ultraright party had to change its name due to some racism lawsuit, from Vlaams Blok to Vlaams Belang.
A now deceased socialist called Steve Stevaert (not even his real name, just sounded hip) called them out that as of now decent people should only use their initials V.B. to adress them.
You can guess the reply from the fascist party.
>Mädel
Is used in the south
Question for sausage lover.
Why don't you understand humour?
coincidence? i think not
>To each their own.
Can't say it anymore even though it's completely mundane, simply because it was used as the slogan for Buchenwald concentration camp.
Anything related to gas, camp or reich
Volk is sort of vorbelastet (meaning it's a term that has become controversial due to its use by the Nazis)
Führer is used in an ironic sense only
Nothing's really forbidden in a legal sense except the first stanza of the anthem I think, Nazi salute too I think
Shut it Island ape.
Our Humor is abrasive and doesn't make much sense to outsiders, it's one big Insider joke.
You can still say Jedem Das Seine in my neck of the woods, but I live in the redneck part of Germany so that puts it into Perspective
Arbeit macht frei is no bueno of course
>Nothing's really forbidden in a legal sense except the first stanza of the anthem I think
You thought wrong.
>Nazi salute too I think
You thought right.
Monty Python was actually quite popular here.

Are east and west pretty much completely unified now or are there still lingering differences?
Is there a Checkpoint Charlie museum or placard or something?
>Are east and west pretty much completely unified now or are there still lingering differences?
East Germans are economically much weaker and culturally closer to other Eastern European countries. There is some sort of slight inferiority complex but I wouldn't play that up too much. In many regards they are better Germans than us Westerners.
>Is there a Checkpoint Charlie museum or placard or something?
Idk, ask somebody from Berlin.
We constantly make jokes about Arbeit macht frei here
>In many regards they are more German than us Turks.
Fixed.
I was surprised how cool Israelis are with us when in Tel Aviv
Your Holocaust jokes are based too
ich bin Häagen-Dazs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>Your Holocaust jokes are based too
I'm going to need some examples. Please.
Not that guy but there's this famous art school in Jerusalem which requires you to submit several pieces as part of the application process. Near the end of the process all remaining applicants hold a communal art fair of sorts. When my friend applied they and their group created a "WORK SETS YOU FREE" sign which they hung near the entrance, along with another sign which said "Remember the last time someone got rejected from art school..?"
He got in.
>Nothing's really forbidden in a legal sense except the first stanza of the anthem I think
WHAT? You can't legally sing the uber alles line?
Two children fight in Auschwitz. One of them throws dirt at the other. The other one says:
"Hey, no involving mothers!"
fucking kek
Isrealis are pretty based desu
I live in a city which was heavily Jewish prior to Hitler and Jews left a pretty good mark, it was one of the wealthier cities in Germany
There was a case where some drunk dude did so and wound up in legal trouble
