Those are terrible reasons to use a dap instead of a phone, much better reasons would be being able to use physical buttons letting you use it in your pocket, having a long battery, and not having to worry about something happening to your phone.

waiting for my xduoo and kz ate for that chink sounding music

Upgrading ipod classic 160gb to 512gb 1/2 x SD/2 x micro SD/1 x sata drive.
Should I pay more for micro sd card, in the middle for sd card or less for sata drive?
Is double the price justified for being able to continue using the micro sd cards in the future?
Or should the sata drive fulfill its duty for a while? Should I pretend I'll need 256/512 sd card in the future and get sd card?

Can you give me a push?

waiting for kz-ate as well... looks like shipping just arrived in my country

gonna pull the trigger on the kz zs5 they are what i really wanted

Buttons are the number one reason I use a dap. I work in a clean room and cannot get into my pockets unless i leave the building so buttons are a must. In line remote dosent work so well because we are not really allowed to listen to music and grabbing at your neck is a dead giveaway.

also having 2x256 gb worth os music is kind of nice.

>found my Zune 30GB
>it still works
Noice.

Is there anything out there like the clip and zip anymore?
must have:
>dedicated hardware nav buttons AND volume buttons
>screen capable of smoothly displaying at least multiple lines of text
>great battery life
>compact as possible
I've seen the ruizu or whatever stuff without the volume buttons and the bricks by cowon and fiio which aren't really bad I was just wondering if there was anything else.

>apocalyptica
ewww

Just a generic photo i found on google.

My iPod Classic's HDD died, is it seriously that hard to crack it open and replace it with an iflash adaptor?

Best one under 40 bucks?

nope i can even do it with my fingernails

Liar pants on fire

No, replacement batteries come with plastic pry tools. So replace your battery while your at it.

if you haven't done it before, you have a fair chance of breaking something. the connectors are very fragile and the backplate is very finicky and easy to damage when you're prying it apart. that said, if you're very careful you can do it consistently without damaging anything.

nice digits
sd > microsd > mSATA. if it's a thin 160gb you might want to check and make sure whatever adapter you buy will fit in the case.

So what's the best cheap PMP that can use Rockbox?

My choice used to be the Sansa Clip, but they're not around anymore.

No Japanese character support is a bummer, but everything else seems pretty solid. Only capped to 30GB though and I'm not sure how the battery life is yet.

Does the sd card mod use less power on an ipod 5g?

Yes, but not considerably less.
It should be heavily documented.

I was just wondering because I saw some people debating the ssd vs the hdd and saying that the ssd could consume more power. I figured a card mod would be a little less.

Man I fucking loved my brown Zune back in the day till some nigger or spick took it when I got expelled and had to go to secondary school with a bunch of juvenile criminals.

Funny Spotify will go down as the first big music provider to popularize the subscription method but if you had a Zune you'd know the Zune store did it first.

I gave up reading shit for it, I just need a new jack and I'm good to go after a new battery.

>SSD HAS BETTER QUALITY AUDIO THAN HDD
Nigger, no it fucking doesn't. Where do these people get off?

no idea really
I figure a 3000mah battery would make uptime differences negligible anyway

Recently busted my phone because I'm a retard and I need something to listen to music with while I'm out on the town. What can I pick up that's cheap?

Are there any players that take two SD cards? Will something like a fiio X5 take SD cards instead of micros in the future?

>sd cards
what fucking year is this

This thread makes me want to find and revive my ipod video 5g.

>babby's first reply

I see the OP got a similiar style to /csg/.

Why not making a pastebin with reviews and recommended pmp?

I mean the news are cool and shit, but a photo with a couple of lines is pretty much useless.

This could alllow more discussion about such reviews and avoid posts like "recommend me a good pmp for the #2039043 time".

What's the name of that device?

he said SD not micro.
Who the hell still uses those?

People that want more storage and don't need the microSD form factor, dipshit.

>Can't tell the audio quality difference by the soldering materials used on the circuit board

Why are there filthy plebs sharing this board with me?

What's the differants between a dap and pmp?

RUIZU's

>pastebin

A infographic would be nicer

>"recommend me a good pmp for the #2039043 time".
Which at this point go unanswered. I've lurked through three of these threads and have not once seen a concrete recommendation for an entry pmp.

Xduoo x10

I love my Sansa Clip+. I'm not sure if I can go higher than 32GB for external storage, though. I wish the screen was a bit better so picture flow didn't look so bad.

>looking at pictures on it
¥ou wat

Have you replaced the clip behind the player? It looks different.

it broke off and I propped it up with MicroSD card adapters for the picture
>picture flow included on clip+ rockbox
it's a shit screen but it'd be neat if it looked better

The one on /csg/ is pretty much useless besides "Get this meme because I say so".

Also never updated.

Do it!

>Get this meme because I say so
>Also never updated.

So like everything on Sup Forums

Nothing, op just wants to use a different word to make it special

Found the best deal everrrrrrrrr

>I'm not sure if I can go higher than 32GB for external storage

You can.

I just stream my audio from Youtube++, close the app and use wireless headphones.

Really that simple. Would it be a waste of money to buy a pmp?

My old (mini USB) Sansa Clip is starting to have a weird problem where the backlight only works at like 10% strength or something so it's very hard to see and impossible in any bright light, until I give the player a good whack, at which point it starts working normally for a while. How much time do I have left /pmp/?

I don't even remember the brand but it was a 1.5gb player my mom bought for my birthday off overstock.com and it cost $120. This was 2002 or 2003 I think. I killed it with a corrupted MP3 I had gotten off LimeWire.

weak af

Anybody know? Players with 2 slots, micro or standard sd?

How many songs you got in it? And how's the performance with the 2x256gb?

>5th Gen iPod (Video)
Stuck on Apple logo, I can hear the harddrive clicking it's probably dead, but ifixit says Apple logo means bad logic board. Anyone know if just harddrive failure can cause it?

SSD in general has less power draw, but some high capacity mSATA drives take a huge spike of power when starting up, and with some drives the ipod's battery won't be sufficient to start the drive. so beware of mSATA if you're upgrading ipod storage. some work fine, many don't.

The honker is happy with this thread

What is that?

>OP is using your photo for a fucking general
What have I done

could I get a recommend or two on waterproof pmp/mp3 players?

preferably the cheapest that is ok

I don't need amazing amounts of storage, 4/8gb should be ok

it doesn't need to be mega waterproof, just enough that when I'm working out I don't shortcircuit it with sweat like my last one

So what's the deal with the Sansa Clip's? I just looked them up on Amazon/eBay and see some people are selling them for hundreds of (Canadian) dollars.
Are they some uber player that I wasn't aware of?

Asking because I have a Sansa Clip+ in a box somewhere that I never used and I've been mulling around the idea of getting a dedicated music player instead of my phone.

spending money on wireless headphones was a waste of money

The prices are marked up high because Sandisk no long makes the player. It's a solid player if you install Rockbox on it

I was considering purchasing an Xduoo X3, but they list about 8 hours of battery life for it. I timed the usage of my sansa clip sport from fully charged until the "low battery" message appears, and I use it more than 8 hours a day. So I won't be getting an X3 since the battery is too small.
Also found out the clip sport will run 17+ hours on a single charge (including some periods at max volume) which is pretty good I suppose.

rockbox should improve on battery life

Rockbox doesn't work on clip sport, unfortunately.

Oh wait you meant on X3, my bad. Do you know by how much? I know there's some charts out there but I can't find one for X3.

It's a discontinued meme player which is known for very good sound quality. If you never used yours then you can sell it and get more than you paid for it or start using / enjoying it. If you get a good price for yours then you can probably buy a more modern one that's got equally good sound quality.

A guide of recommended pmp on different price ranges would be better than the useless wall of news.

but a spinning hard drive is the cause of the rotational velocidensity phenomenon.
I also don't see how a device that has a high speed spinning disk and read head cannot possibly create audible microvibrations that distort the sound. With a pair of Sony MDR-J10 I could easily hear my iPod's hard drive seeking if I pulled the cable taut.

Can I use RockBox on the Xduoo X2?

don't think so

What's the difference between using rockbox and the stock firmware? Is there a risk of bricking or is it 100% safe? Can I re-flash the stock firmware in case of something happened? Does sandisk even still have the firmware? Or do we have a repo for them?

How much spoonfeeding do you need exactly? All the info is right there on the rockbox site.

is that pokemon on a clip?

I see you can't read shit but how does it play out of curiosity?

I think it does, I could play Doom on my ipod classic lol

Rockbox has better SD card and codec support, and a lot more, just read their website. You can also make the UI look the way you want. I think you can restore the stock firmware too, but I've never tried it. Also, you can't install Rockbox without the original firmware binary from Sandisk.

>What's the difference between using rockbox and the stock firmware?
See . You can go to the Rockbox site for info specific to your device.

For me personally, I chose to Rockbox my Clip Zip because the stock firmware insisted on showing the album art. Problem was, half the time it didn't even show up (if your art is over 100 kb or something, stock firmware won't show it), and it looked like shit on the screen anyhow. Rockbox allows me to use a theme with plain text.

>Is there a risk of bricking or is it 100% safe?
I've had mine freeze from time to time, but restarting always fixes it, it never totally bricked on me.

>Can I re-flash the stock firmware in case of something happened?
Yes, you can get rid of Rockbox completely and go back to using the stock firmware. You can also dual-boot (pushing a certain button combo while powering on will boot the stock firmware.)

>Does sandisk even still have the firmware?
I think so. You'll have to check the Sansa site, I haven't had to check in a while.

the difference is pokemon on the sansa is likely emulation, whereas doom was likely playing natively on the ipod

Still neat regardless

so where do I go for recommendations on mp3 players?

A Zune can still be used as a basic MP3 player right? I looked up some information and I find is "you can't use the streaming service anymore".

Anybody?

This too.

This forum has lots of info, but they tend towards high end gear. head-fi.org/f/forums/portable-source-gear.15/
Plenty of info on ipod modding in this megathread too head-fi.org/f/threads/official-ipod-video-classic-5g-5-5g-6g-6-5g-7g-ssd-mod-thread.566780/

Is the Sandisk Clip Jam any good?

What do I do if I want to buy one of these in a couple of years?

Yes, it still works as a player. The only downside is having to rely on the Zune software to get music on the device.

...

no

...

Name of nippon game?

Thanks, my man. Gonna check it out and probably pick one up this weekend.

>but they tend towards high end gear
hmm, I'm looking at cheap and just above

>• you want a dedicated player in situations where you don't want your phone tied to any cords

Bluetooth headphones exist though.

Zeruda no Densetsu Yume O Miru Shima DX

and they sound like trash too

>I see this thread
>same day I found my zen vision M and started recharging it earlier today

DESU I am considering using zen vision M to listen to my music while playing pokemon go, so I don't drain battery as quickly.

Anyone else with zen vision M? Mines 32gb.

I really wish i'd gotten the Nano 5g. Would love to have FM radio on my 4g but whatever.
Using it for my meemmusic with Mediamonkey is nice
