What is a good sms app that I can actually use to send messages to other people without having to download something stupid? I don't wanna use google allo (I might get the OP5 soon).
What's a good music player, now that blackplayer added ads and went to shit? I'm looking at pulsar, it's pretty good looking
What apps do you use?
Also, looking for user who was working on this with me, found a file and can give it to you for you to use/edit. hmu if you're here, add me on email or whatever
Looks like the wiki isn't outdated to me. The applications I would suggest to someone asking your questions are right there.
Gavin White
I use Signal, for the encryption. For the music player, I use BlackPlayer.
Lincoln Howard
>I use Signal, for the encryption. >For the music player, I use BlackPlayer. lol I didn't read all the post

Aiden Ortiz
>Brave for general use Why would I use that instead of Firefox?
Jeremiah Turner
Stock messaging is honestly the best sms app, I liked the options of some of the FOSS ones on fdroid but not a single one of them was bug free. I'll take the stability over everything else.
As for music players, Poweramp is well worth the money. An alternative is reportedly neutron but since I already have poweramp, I've never wanted for anything else and don't have any experience with neutron. Check them both out if you're unsure
I'm also looking for a good booru browser. For some reason, nori takes noticeably longer to load images than animeboxes or mbooru, and while mbooru is my favorite, it hasn't been updated in forever and is only compatible with yande.re atm, so I'm using animeboxes but if there's something better, please enlighten me.
Alexander Richardson
It's faster and offers pretty decent privacy compared to other browsers.
mostly the speed.
Thomas Diaz
>actually spoonfeeding this faggot this board is dead.

>hurr don't talk about software!
Evan Wright
>Stock messaging is honestly the best sms app Unless you're using a branded rom, since Marshmallow the stock one has huge fucking fonts and doesn't even have search.
Finding a good sms app took me a while so I'm happy to help.

Luke Cook
Pretty much all of this needs to be added to the wiki
>Sup Forums is for the discussion of technology and related topics. >Sup Forums is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site.
>Finding a good sms app took me a while so I'm happy to help. The wiki lists all of the good ones. He refused to use it because it was "outdated" and had "encrypted ass shit." He deserves no help; not even from /wsr/.
Lincoln Baker
While I agree with what you're saying, the wiki does list pretty outdated software. A lot of the "go-to" apps have changed over the last couple years.
Brayden Diaz
Most of that is on the wiki. The parts that aren't, like a fucking reddit browser and a closed source PAID IRC CLIENT aren't on there for obvious reasons. This is Sup Forums; open source applications are preferred to closed source ones. If you don't care about that, then go /back/ to r*ddit and look at their recommended software list.
>the wiki does list pretty outdated software Name some? Little on that wiki is outdated, and that's even after bananafish the fucktard wiped the wiki clean multiple times because of pajeet spam.
Dylan Gomez
ayy, good post. is SD Maid Pro worth it?
Mason Jenkins
Unironically the best sms app out there is Verizon's messaging app. I've been with AT&T for more than a year and I've been using it the whole time off the play store. The only functionality I miss from it is being able to text gift cards to people and billing it to my wireless account
Alexander Edwards
Okay, I did it for you. Here are all of the problems I notice: >YuBrowser botnet warning and description missing >Brave unlisted >Overchan needs to be replaced with new updated fork >Chant and Chanu need to be removed >8ch browsers need to be labeled dead/development dead >Apollo should be replaced by Eleven, LOS's new player >f2k port should probably be added >Greenify should be labeled bloat for Android 5+ >KeePassDroid f-droid build should be labeled for not supporting kbdx v4; it's patched but f-droid hasn't built it yet >XPrivacy should be removed >AdBlock Plus should be removed >Adguard should be removed >QuickPic 4.5.2 apk needs to be added >SD Maid needs to be added >Atomic (IRC) needs to be added >NOAA Weather should be added in my opinion >Keyboard section needs to be added So, like I said, the vast majority of the "go-to" programs are still on there. Ricing shit like launchers and widgets have their own page.
Grayson Smith
Clovers a beast and chanobyl is pretty but the latter needs to get in features cuz there's like no development in it
Aiden King
Good post. But you truly don't know what you're missing on Apollo until you try the Pro version of IRC for Android. One of the pro apps that's fucking worth it, Imo
Jose King
>apollo I meant Atomic
Gavin Torres
Hacker's keyboard is useless on a phone. On a tablet it's great though. On the phone the best keyboard is SwiftKey neural
Easton Richardson
The old QuickPic version pre-botnet is broken on many of the newer phones in the last year unfortunately. Doesn't work on the S7 Edge, for example. F-Stop seems to be a decent alternative and very similar
Jackson Martin
I actually prefer Hacker's Keyboard on my phone, desu. But SwiftKey is one of the best botnet keyboards Jews could ever possibly write.
Zachary Martinez
>The old QuickPic version pre-botnet is broken on many of the newer phones in the last year Broken in what way? >On the phone the best keyboard is SwiftKey neural If you're going to use a botnet keyboard just use Google's Gboard.
Cooper Evans
It often crashes when you go to open it
Nathaniel Thomas
In my experience this only happens when you allow it to display video (webm). It stopped after I disabled that feature.
Alexander Cox
>brave You misspelled Lightning dude. Best android browser about there
David Evans
doesn't have adblocking, tracking protection, anti-fingerprinting, and safe browsing tho. and they're pretty close in speed being webview wrappers. the only real advantage lighting has it being open source.
Nathaniel Turner
You mean the only advantage that matters
Luis Williams
it has adblocking, but it kinda sucks
Liam Lee
adaway
Justin Johnson
Eh, I'd say security is more important than simply being open source.
Nathaniel Clark
im setting up my android phone, but i have always been on iOS, so I dont know what im doing.
What (Free) podcast app should I get?

is there any open source pdf + epub reader?

Gavin Ross
tune-in radio i guess? mupdf lineageOS

>SMS Signal (recommended by Snowden) >Music Phonograph (FOSS material design, not in fdroid yet though)
Nathaniel Brown
What does Sup Forums think of using ES File Explorer (pro) as both a file browser and music player? It supports folder play/shuffle/repeat etc and doubles as a decent file manager with built in ftp support
Camden Powell
>ES File Explorer botnet
Kayden Adams
I hope you know Signal doesn't encrypt SMS
It is my default SMS app though. So clean, and I hope to convert more people to Signal over time
Henry Allen
>stallman's face when
Blake Lee
Even on legacy versions? I have 1.0.8, which is not uptodate at all. How far back does the botnet go?
Mason Hill
>shuttle Phonograph is better
Aaron Lopez
How can you know you're actually secure if it's not open source?
>checkmate
Kayden Peterson
f-droid has QKSMS and vanilla player
John Gutierrez
by checking how many occurrences of exploitation a given piece of software has endured and/or is found to be technically possible, factoring in how many users it has (how popular it is), and how long it's been released
if an open source application has basic fundamental security flaws and the closed source project does not-- you can logically assume that the open source project is inherently "less secure"
this is indicated in the comparison between lightning vs brave: >lightning receives less updates >lacks safe browsing >brave is regularly updated >frequently patches known vulnerabilities >security features such as safe browsing are implemented It's pretty safe to assume Brave is less likely to get pwned, imo. And that's jut one of the many reasons I prefer it over Lightning.
t. some guy who's a big fan of Open Source software and normally prefers it over proprietary counterparts

What's that picture OP? Is it a phone OS? Looks good

I just tried Brave because I'm fed up with Firefox Mobile being slow as nigger tits. I'm pleasantly surprised how.many privacy features it has out of the box, but I wish it offered more options on cookies and history.
But HOLY FUCKING SLICK DIAMOND DICK MUFFINS IT'S LITERALLY FUCKING BUTTER
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER

How do I get black player to look like that?
Zachary Harris
>install any rom other than stock >camera image quality turns to shit
Isaac Bennett
>this is a serious concern for him >but the massive glaring vulnerability that is xposed doesn't even register kill yourself
Chase Perez
Your "stock" camera is probably applying a smoothing filter. You're better of saving the raw data even if it's noisy and then fixing it manually if necessary.
Joseph Jenkins
I had the same reaction after being so used to mobile Firefox when I first tried it; I was just like "fuck it. I can't go back now."
Brave may not give you quite the same level of privacy you can achieve on Firefox, or be as customizable... but day to day browsing experience is just so much better with how fluid that motherfucker is lol...
I do keep Firefox and pair it with a VPN for when I feel the need to lurk ad-ridden porn sites.. or just need a higher level of privacy/anonymity. (most you can reasonably expect from an NSA/google botnet phone... disregarding Tor & other inconvenient methods)
Nicholas Murphy
wew, I used one too many ellipsis in that post
Logan Collins
I bought Moonreader for 1$ when it was on sale with the fake monopoly money from Google's survery reward shit. It's the best thing for ebooks I've encountered yet, since no-one is mentioning reading apps.
Hudson Reyes
>not uninstalling google/NSA services and routing all your Internet traffic through a VPN, tor, and a russian proxychain Any privacy/anonymity you feel you have is placebo.
Wyatt Lee
Not OP. It's my phone. Try hards tried to remake it but failed miserably. It literally took a team of Sup Forumstards to make a static poor man's version of something that took me an hour. The download is probably still floating around though, so try to improve it. They need the help.

>>Browsers >Brave for general use, Firefox w/ appropriate addons for porn
Which addons do you reccomend?
Juan Phillips
that's still not enough and would make it unusably slow. you might as well shorten the goalpost and give up your attempts when it comes to anonymity/privacy in regards to state-level adversaries. they can find you no matter what you do... you're just making it harder on yourself. you can reasonably hide from corporation/companies cross-analyzing and identifying you among different services. you can exceedingly complicate the efforts of big brother ingesting mass public surveillance data and easily profiling you without being specifically targeted. you can hide from your ISP. BUT, imo, you don't need to go through all the effort and take the steps you mentioned to achieve these goals. if anything, your method is excessive and more placebo than non-googled Firefox+appropriate addons+VPN
Oliver Lewis
Ublock Origin, Decentraleyes, HTTPS Everywhere, and Self-Destructing Cookies seem to be the mandatory four
Connor Nguyen
Silence is from my experience the best SMS app. QKSMS was prone to lagging so i tried Silence. It's much faster, ligher and honestly better overall.
Because firefox is the worst mobile browser, aside from the indian UC browser. Pic related. Brave kills every browser in performance.
Noah Brown
>Firefox w/ appropriate addons for porn Care to tell us which addons please?

Termux float from fdroid
Gavin Cox
Pretty lame. Is there an actual terminal widget that will just stay on the homescreen?

The wiki is shit, it seems the only people promoting it are the circlejerking fags of this board.
Camden Thomas
Can't believe no mentioned qksms. What happened to Sup Forums?
