What's the best 12" thinkpad on the market and why it's the 2570p?

um sweaty that doesn't sound like the D430 xxx

Also a new post by David Hill, ThinkPad Retro is kicking!
blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/retro-thinkpad-its-alive

>never remove the palmrest, pain in the ass to put back the fingerprint cable

I remember this extremely uncomfortable trackpoint. Holy shit I always had to carry a usb mouse with it.
Thank god I was quickly given E6430s as my new company laptop.

Im currently looking for a new laptop. it should be capable of some heavy lifting and I dont mind paying for quality.
is a 17'' a good idea?
is there a brand that doesnt look like some razor mouse?

HP 8770w if you want good dGPU option (up to 970m) and low price
Thinkpad p70 if you want modern Thinkpad ((quality)) and TB3 eGPU support.

P71, Elitebook 8770w, Precision M6800

17" is a bit oversized though. Laptops this big will be a real pain in the ass to carry from place to place, even if you don't intend on ever using it off the AC.

Post your ThinkPads

actually this, there is this new p71.

How shitty do you let your batteries get before buying a replacement?

>no mention of aspect ratio
we're fucked, aren't we?

Are there any differences between the 9 cell batteries off ebay for $38 or the lenovo ones off amazon for $74?

IT'S HAPPENING

I only have my gf's ass or my thinkpad, not both in the same picture, sorry.

if I unplug AC power and the laptop dies within 60 seconds, it's time for a replacement battery

You're late
http ://blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/retro-thinkpad-its-alive/

I doubt it

you can make two posts, I'll wait the 60 seconds

if I put some things into the p71 it costs like 20% more than the best gaming laptop I could find.

>17" is a bit oversized though. Laptops this big will be a real pain in the ass to carry from place to place, even if you don't intend on ever using it off the AC.
well it wouldnt be for daily carry. but I want something powerful that I can take with me if needed.

Yeah, it's too late, no one's falling for your shilling. Now sell your 2570p on eBay and stop having buyer's remorse.

That's a pretty decent butt, Geranon.

so I recently bought an x201 tablet
what OS should I install to make the best of it?

My butt is hairy, what do?

Also, is that a german coca cola sticker?

Can I use my ThinkPads fingerprint reader as a login method for my GNU/Linux? I can't even find the device

thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_enable_the_integrated_fingerprint_reader

windows 10
fedora (gnome)
xubuntu with some package I don't remember the name for gestures and screen control (buttons)

I set up the fingerprint reader on Windows and thus it stored it in the BIOS as well

then I installed Ubuntu and the fingerprint reader worked the exact same

I don't know how I could add more fingerprints or change them, but I know I can delete them via the BIOS

but yeah it works to power on the laptop and log in

Y/N? The T430 doesn't come with a hard drive or battery so that's why I need the other two. The seller didn't have any information on the resolution so I'm assuming it's some shitty 1366x768 or some shit.

oh I forgot to mention that the t430 comes with a docking station which is cool and it still has the hard drive caddy

T400 was delivered today. It's in pretty good condition minus a couple scuffs on the lid. The battery is okay, lasts a little over an hour. Keyboard needs a cleaning too. Going to upgrade cpu and add some more ram soon.
Not bad for $50.

intel 320-series SSD's are like 7 years old and they are also only SATA 2

and the "70+" batteries are 6-cell, the "70++" is the 9-cell

and for the T430 it looks like they have a picture of the BIOS screen which should give you the serial number which you can enter here
support.lenovo.com/us/en/?menu-id=Technical_Support&menu-id=technical_support
and it will tell you all of the original specs, including screen resolution

Thank you very much mister trips.

redpill me about the x230 tablet, wanted to buy an ipad pro but the thinkpads are way cheaper and actually have a proper OS

I'm transferring to usc for their comp sci games program and trying to find a laptop to use during class, are thinkpad's good for programming and school in general? Or are they more oriented towards business?

A laptop is a laptop as far as programming. You'll be fine as long as the screen is good and a decent size. nobody wants to program on a 12 inch shitbook with a 1024x768 screen.

Right I figured as much, I was debating getting a screen that rotates to portrait mode but probably not necessary during class, my desktop can do that.

Growing up in a shitty country like mine, and low on budget, i had to always game on low-end. I remember whem i bought my 8400gs, what a piece. Finishing Crysis 2 there at like, 15fps is probably something i should put at my curriculum.

People here was saying "HD 3000 sucks for games." and, maybe if you're a elitist i could agree with you, but so far, with a dual-channel t420, my results are pretty good. Even the Witcher 2 who only ram at like, 5 fps in my last notebook, now is playbable at 30fps and decent 16:9 resolution.

Actually got quite a bang for the buck i had, pretty satisfied.

Blog is over.

X-series tablets are NOT tablet replacements

they are huge and heavy

tits or gtfo

Reposting from last thread, I reinstalled Windows 7 on my T400 and all of the sudden the sound stopped working. Either after I installed Daemon Tools or some Digital Line-In driver. Any ideas how to address? Should I just wipe Windows and start over again since it's a new install? I'd hate to have to download all the updates again.

I have several spare T400 keyboards (or more accurately, one T400 keyboard, one T60 keyboard and three T61 keyboards). Want one?

30 minutes. But I probably would just use/get another thinkpad.

Photoshop it then

Ubuntu Studio has a decent set of software for drawing.

Install and uninstall the sound driver.
I think I had a problem like that before, sometimes thinkvantage has bad drivers.

Is this a female (boy) butt?

is that a man?

its a >girl

>implying that on Sup Forums any of you freaks would care

how cancer is a brand new E470?

>Have a sweet ass thinkpad at home
>Work will only let me use their shitty laptops.

Worst part is that sales gets to use nice to use nice business models and im stuck with a shitty consumer model.

It's more consumer-level. Nice piece, but you're paying more for the brand. You could get a similar Ideapad or shenanigans for less.

At least the L series maintain most features of the T series, while not being cutting-edge.

because muh quad core
I really dont know what else you wanna hear
thats kind of it
I still think the x230 looks better though but thats my taste
if youre that user with the carbon fiber wrapped 2570p that looked pretty neat too

rgbthink.com/
wow its fucking nothing

man the x220 keyboard is fucking aesthetic af

ew
you some kind of girl kissing faggot or something

I would user. I'd say that your girlfriend (male) has a nice bottom

post. we're all faggots here.

8770w
good hardware (with swappable mxm gpu)
great screen
nice build quality

wow thats a lot of tweaking man
thats actually pretty neat
the hd 3000 is a bag of shit though but Im pretty impressed that you got something out of it

Thanks for the offer but keyboard isnt bad to the point where it needs replacing. (It came with all kepcaps, the keys without caps were just a bit sticky and needed cleaning.)

you should clarify on this
theyre heavier than an ipad
have less battery life than a x230
kind of shitty thermals compared to a x230
the hinge is kind of shit too
and are kind of garbage to draw on
but if you just want something thats touch capable then its good enough.
they are bad tablet replacement if want it to be one
theyre good touch enabled laptops though
that said I'd still go for a x230 as its really light and you could use it like a tablet once you get used to the trackpoint
its also cheaper so you could save up a ipad quicker if you wanted

where's my fucking retro thinkpad??

programming is about as demanding as business user. maybe even more.

I'd say get a xx30 for the good igpu and solid everything else

>Can anyone comment on a T60's performance?
>Web browsing, video, 720-1080p movies, 2hu games will work well enough?
>Does it needs a more lightweight distro or can normally function even on WinXP?

>Web browsing:
Did you mean shitposting? Let's do that on FF because it's the one of the best browsers there is (but 55 version and later are shit)
First installing nightly. Also need to configure that fan speed (which I'm unable to do because I'm a total ass).

Browsing the internet seems to be on similar compared to T61 even with just 1.5gb ram.
Youtube videos however, are quite a challenge to run which is why I installed smplayer. Before I continue with
youtube, I'll try some anime (chobits to be exact which is in 720p) to see if it runs okay and then I'll be trying
something that even my T61 was unable to run smoothly.

After testing youtube videos in 1080p and 30fps, they were not smooth nor were they when I lowered the fps down to
25fps or even 10fps. This iGPU is certainly on its limits, no doubt about that.

Now, the real question. How does it run anime? Well, 720p is no problem at all but 1080p, seems to work when
you select in smplayer, to work on mpv (backend). Anime tends to be 23fps so I can't see anything too dramatic
here. It certainly is better than how it was before.
I also want to point out that theoretical power of the iGPU between T60 and T61 is quite noticeable. According to wikipedia, GMA950 only has 4 executing cores with 133-400Mhz clock speed while X3100 has 8 cores and 500mhz clockspeed.

ps. Keep in mind that I ran these test while T60 was hooked up to 1920x1080 monitor (pushing total resolution of 2944x1080. The result might have been better if ran from 1920x1080 itself without the laptops own screen) I used Lubuntu 17.04.

(B)log ends.

You asked it. You got it. Here you go.
>inb4 Toshiba satellite
No bully

blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/retro-thinkpad-its-alive/

that's a taxi driver butt if I've ever seen one.

Turkish or Armenian?

I warned you. Btw, do gurls object if I have hair on my butt. If so how do I go about trimming them? I don't want to accidentally cause anal menstruations...
Honorary pa/g/eet.

T450s for $400?
It would be replacing my X220 and a bigger panel would be nice (and also 1080p) but I don't know, is it worth it?

Right I meant that more as would ThinkPad's be good enough, but thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into them

I had no intention of quoting that post.. Been a long day

Considering I have a satellite, I am probably the last person you want consult about buying laptops. I, myself, am here to learn about thinkpads...so far I've zeroed in on x230, but that shit costs too much here relative to how you guys have it in the west

Lenovo signed a deal with a company that makes 4:3 screens

Yeah sorry man I'm still a bit high, didn't mean to quote you in that post..

>the new keyboards are fine

My T410 seems to have gotten stuck at ''shutting down...'' after updating bios with Lenovos update tool. What's the resale value of bricked thinkpads?

What a fucking monster you must be to destroy the keys.
Keyboards are for pressing, not mashing or hammering.

I've just got a t420
Love it
But the screen is really bad sometimes my eyes hurt from using it.

Is there something that can be done besides the Fhd mod which is paused for my model? I own the 1600x900 on the t420

>throw old thinkpad on ebay
>forgot to link paypal with ebay until after the bidding ended
>2 days later winner still hasn't paid
>don't want to message them asking them to pay
>they haven't messaged me either

might just cancel everything and throw it in the garbage and forget this ever happened

turn the brightness up and sit closer so you don't have to strain your eyes?

Yeah but no luck. We don't have a good 720p screen on this one right? The best option would be the FHD mod?

Jesus christ you're supposed to type not fucking curb stomp it your fucking manchild

>laptop 3/10
>ass 5/10

Most Turks aren't that dark
t. Turk

Don't be a fucking faggot
Just say "hey sorry my man I forgot to link my PayPal. Can you pay me today so I can ship this asap? Thanks"
Literally copy and paste that. I know anxiety is hard but don't forget that this guy doesn't know you and you will never ever run into him so you might as well even spaz out on your message

You sure you don't have the brightness too high or too low? I know the viewing angles and colors are bad but they're not that bad

Just get a new mobo
Or if you're stuck on Windows just give it a quick reboot
My T430 got stuck after the first reboot while updating and just beeped at me so I said my prayers looked up a few mobo prices and pulled the plug

It was just fine and nothing happened

alienware m14x r2 glossy 1600x900 tn panel will drop in with the standard hd+ cable. display quality improves from "crime against nature" to "pretty okay i guess"

Can you post a direct sunlight comparison?
I can tilt the screen to compensate for the shitty viewing angles

Maybe will try to take them to my office Wich has a better illumination than my house and see if the same problem happens might be it

I doubt it's that
He's probably either straining his eyes by having the screen too bright or not bright enough
Or just not tilting the screen

Or worst he's noticing the pwm or something

Would you have the panel number? So I can search it on eBay?

Idk I never had this problem with screens besides when I played an 3DS

What is pwm?

haha ok ahmed ;^)

Pulse width modulation
Shit bait

My t420s just came in, has an SSD; I'm wondering what is the best way to completely zero-out/wipe the ssd? Can I get away with a reformat via gparted?

what brand ssd? most have their own software for wiping them

Replace my t410s with a p50 and it's great. I'm still going to buy a retro thinkpad when it's released

Band is Toshiba.

cnet.com/how-to/how-to-securely-erase-an-ssd-drive/

I need a laptop for college in the fall. Will be taking compsci courses.

I *could* get an older thinkpad, I hear they are very compatible with Linux which is a plus.

I have the money for a Dell XPS 13. I've looked all over and they've honestly been getting some really good reviews.

Is there any reason I shouldn't get an XPS 13 besides being overpriced? And even then, they're not nearly as overpriced as a Macbook for what you get.

Also, how is Linux compatibility with a newer laptop like the XPS 13?

Thanks
