What would compel a person to buy a $2000 laptop if they're only going to use it to browse the Internet and make Powerpoint presentations?

Because they're rich unlike your faggot NEET self
you almost need it to make today's shitty websites with 100MB of autoloading autoplaying videos and loads of javascripts work at a usable speed, and it's the sort of website that normal people tend to spend most time browsing
But I'm a college student that doesn't have rich parents.
not being a poorfag and thus being ok with spending an extra grand
on design, software and local support
but you can get $1000 laptops that have almost identical hardware to macbooks. A little bit more and you can get one with an actually functional GPU
just werks
Why spend all that money on a MBP when you could put that money towards a Grom?
They don't know any better and like the sreen (which is nice) and trackpad (also nice)
and have probably gotten viruses/malware before on windows and think OS X is immune......
but for a professional who uses his/her laptop every single day for work and can get 5+ years out of it, $2000 is not much for a work tool
I bought my last 15' macbook in 2008 and didn't use it for much more than shitposting, sold it in 2015 for $700 and bought at 13inch rmbp
no regrets
They probably think expensive computers last longer
When will they realize that expensive just means today's latest thing that will be entry level in a couple years?
...
>but you can get $1000 laptops that have almost identical hardware to macbooks
not really
spec me one out that has an m.2 drive and 2k+ monitor for $1000bucks user
Stop caring about what other people do, how they love their life and how they spend their money, if they aren't hurting anybody, just ignore them, you'll be alot happier if you do.
Find a laptop with same specs, all metal chassis, rugged build quality, custom PCB and good battery life for 1000
>They probably think expensive computers last longer
mac laptops have undeniably the best resale value of any laptop
if you buy a high end one for $2k and keep it 3 years you will be able to sell it for $1000+, thus costing you only $333 per year for something you use for hours a day
>rugged build quality
>mac
not really
dented my last one in 2 places despite being gentle as hell with it, the only reason my current one is not dented is it lives on my desk
thank you based Grom
Because they don't know any better. Just let them waste their money how they want
i hear not getting viruses as a common reason

What would compel a person to buy a $200000 car if they're only going to go the legal speed limit 90% of the time?
How dumb or young are you? Is Sup Forums filled with children?
13 macbook pros start at $1300 and that's the more popular model
the air is very popular and is literally meant as a super lightweight facebook machine and is $999
not all macs are $2000
better question is what would compel a person to make threads about how people spend their money if it not gonna change anything at all?
the 15 inch pro laptop is pretty badass to be honest
modular desktop when
Holy fuck, it's so small it almost looks like a toy.
tfw 6'5 and probably could not ride that thing
I look too big on my CBR1000
While some of these points are right (perhaps all of them, it doesn't matter), the logic itself is flawed.
>Don't like killing? Just don't kill and don't mind me killing, it's my killing after all

true
Are you full retard, or something beyond?
Gay marriage does not effect people outside the gay marriage. Raw milk does not effect people who do not drink raw milk. Murder effects other people by fucking killing them you retarded mong.
how much do you weigh? id say anyone over 200 shouldnt ride a 125cc
>Gay marriage does not effect people outside the gay marriage. Raw milk does not effect people who do not drink raw milk. Murder effects other people by fucking killing them you retarded mong.
Wal mart ruined every small town in america
Porn is honestly pretty degrading to women
GMO foods could cause cancer and kill millions of people
>how much do you weigh? id say anyone over 200 shouldnt ride a 125cc
240lbs
being under 200 at my height with my frame would be very very skinny
/fit/ roid bro to be honest though
>GMO foods could cause cancer and kill millions of people
American education.
oh ok
yeah no way you should be a Gromlet then
hello what is this?
yeah i know
just saying i probably could not even ride it for lulz if i wanted
the CBR600 is actually too small for me
>Gay marriage does not effect people outside the gay marriage. Raw milk does not effect people who do not drink raw milk. Murder effects other people by fucking killing them you retarded mong.
Yep, and that's (kinda) valid reasoning. As I said, the points might be valid, but the logic "If you don't like it just don't do it" is invalid. Also, gay marriage actually affects other people, because they are a part of society. Children could be strongly influenced by just being exposed to the concept of gay marriage.
Where is this from? I want to read the whole article/book.
but lets say you have a CRT but could buy a new screen with much better resolution for cheap, you are getting a better product, how does he not get that
you literally can't get functional use out of a 20 year old computer like you can a 20 year old painting
POWERPOINT!
money relative to needs.
>be me
>remember 1990s
>every laptop was $2500 and not as capable as a desktop and had to be plugged in to get on the internet
if you are using it for work $2k is cheap

>Paying $10 an hour to grandpa with benefits for greeting people at the door while offering lower prices than shit tier mom and pop shops
>Porn being degrading to women
>Women becoming famous and fetishized by young males while the men who star in porn are literally just torsos with 10" cocks 90% of the time. Women get paid hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions while men make $50-100 a scene.
>GMOs causing cancer and being poisonous
>Literally pseudoscience and false propoganda meanwhile GMO crops increase yields, are resistant to disease, and actively feed the poor and help rural communities prosper.
>Mfw you're more likely to be poisoned by organic crops through pesticides and receive less nutritional value in a meal otherwise.
Look just keep your mouth if you're this fucking retarded.
>because walmart hires an old person as a store greeter it's OK they ruined every small town in the country
LOL
>Be 2000+17
>Do everything that a Mac can do for less than $400
You're overspending on a MacBook, just a tad.
I shop at fucking Walmart. Food is cheap, beer is cheap, and I walk 3 blocks. Fuck yourself.
>Implying Walmart doesn't hire people of all ages and I wasn't just using an example of people who never get hired in the retail workspace otherwise
>Implying Walmart doesn't offer benefits to all full time employees and will also pay for college if you work full time.
LOL fuck off dipshit.
>>Do everything that a Mac can do for less than $400
There are no laptops worth having for under 400 dollars
certainly none with m.2 drives and 2k+ displays
>>Do everything that a Mac can do for less than $400
Buy $400 computer, in 3 years it's worth $0
Buy $1300 macbook pro, sell it in 3 years for $1000
which was the more expensive computer?
really makes you think
Normies have never heard of business laptops.
When all they know is $400 Windows shittops they are more than willing to spend $2k to get something not utter bottom of the barrel.
Spending money on luxury items is a Consumer Capitalist status symbol.
>Case in point.
>implying my xiaomi air will be worth 0
> will probably be able to sell it for same 400
because it's nice and I really like the trackpad.
>mine was only 1700 bucks tho
Will someone be willing to spend money on a thinkpad x1 Carbon 1st gen from 2012 in 4 years?
Right now it costs 400$. No idea how much it costed when it was new, maybe over 1500 with max specs.
Any particular reason, as a student, to buy the 15" MBP over the 13" one? Consider that both have the same storage capacity and not planing on using it for vidya
just the screen size
I decided on the 13 and buying a nice monitor for home use, best of both worlds
the 15 is more powerful but for shitposting and general faggotry you will never notice it
You can get a 2010 white MacBook for literally $250 on eBay and pop a $40 SSD into it and get more than enough performance for web browsing and Office. Spending even $1000 for those functions is pants-on-head retarded. I mean shit, even for most pro A/V stuff you don't need to spend over $1600 or so.
Pretty much anything with a Core 2 Duo would be fine for that. I think the chassis would be worn the fuck out tho.
I liked it enough to pay the difference. I've owned laptops from HP, Dell, and Lenovo. Memebook is the best laptop I've had.
I only paid $1300 for it two years ago, seems good to go for another three years at least. Still looks and feel like new.
You'd be surprised, a lot of older folk seem to have bought those models and they barely use them outside the house, they look practically untouched. I helped my mom buy one about a year and a half ago and I'm sure they're only cheaper now
Speaking of which, if you're really concerned about your investment, use an external monitor and M/KB whenever possible.
Cause a grom is a fucking joke. I have a $1000 GSX-750F that's ten times as fast, nicer to ride and I think even better looking despite its age.
I do not see any reason why I'd trade my one grand miracle for one of these stupid manchild things.
how are you liking it? i'm also switching from windows to macOs so i don't really know what to expect
damn right
Expect to dual boot then
>no warranty
>half the ram
>battery life will be shot with a 7yo battery
>screen resolution is not as good, probably wont run my 2k external monitor well
I play kerbal space at full settings on my 2k 27inch monitor with my laptop
forgot to mention that, I buy a new macbook and sell my old one about every 5 years, I always get back more than you would think, it costs me about $250 per year to always have a brand new macbook
I can afford $20 per month on the thing I use for work and play 5+ hours a day every day
honestly I am paying for the nice screen and I get that, also I run VMs at work and the m.2 ssd is nice for that
parallels covers any such issues in my experience and is stupidly easy to pirate
>how are you liking it? i'm also switching from windows to macOs so i don't really know what to expect
I love it, I dual boot win10 on mine, thinking of getting parallels. I also have win10 on a VM but it's kind of shitty.
you will get used to OS X fast
they released a version of kerbal space that runs native on mac and that is all I was really dual booting for so I might erase that partition
>no warranty
you're paying a tenth the price
>half the ram
you're paying a tenth the price
>battery life will be shot with a 7yo battery
replaceable, and you're paying a tenth the price
>screen resolution is not as good, probably wont run my 2k external monitor well
the 320m handles 1080p just fine, also you're paying a tenth the price
>I play kerbal space at full settings on my 2k 27inch monitor with my laptop
okay
>I can afford $20 per month on the thing I use for work and play 5+ hours a day every day
good for you
>I run VMs at work and the m.2 ssd is nice for that
then a $250 laptop probably isn't for you
>>no warranty
>you're paying a tenth the price
>>half the ram
>you're paying a tenth the price
$300 is not one tenth of $1300 user
a new battery is another hundred bucks and if you put in more ram you wind up having $400-500 bucks in a 7 year old computer that will probably not last you 5 years
no thanks
If you buy the 1300 mac pro and keep it 5 years and sell it you vs buying that 2010 for $250 then upgrading everything and fixing the battery and selling it in 5 years i bet you would come out ahead overall on the 1300dollar machine because of being able to sell it in 5 years for $500-700
>$300 is not one tenth of $1300 user
oh i forgot which one you were
replace with "one fifth" and my post still stands. if you need that much power a $300 computer (including new SSD) isn't for you. not complicated.
>replace with "one fifth" and my post still stands. if you need that much power a $300 computer (including new SSD) isn't for you. not complicated.
Basically I need (perhaps only for entertainment and occasionally) more power than a 7 year old core duo is going to put out
I would be hesitant to buy any 7 year old laptop to be honest, at some point you won't get OS X updates and probably sooner than later, also at that time the laptop basically becomes worth 50bucks
>make Powerpoint presentations?
You must think very highly of them to suggest that ever happening
/thread
>full time
Lul, do you know how much effort they put into making sure as few people as possible are actually pulling enough hours to be considered full time?
Walmart is a shit-awful company, but without it I'd have to walk another 3 blocks to get my booze. And I simply can't stand for that.
they might be tech illiterate and they don't want to fuck around with making multiple adjustments to parameters, and they can't problem solve algorithmically and don't want to learn how
to be honest; my supervisor, who is kind of an imbecile, is like this
i've been skimming her personal emails for years off her yahoo mail account
>Everybody exists in a vacuum and nothing about the outside world effects you meme
lolbertarins should kill themselves.
not everyone is poor?
You can't buy happiness
>Calling others imbeciles
They are your boss though ha. Wagecuck
>if they're only going to use it to browse the Internet and make Powerpoint presentations?
quit projecting NEET!
do poor people actually believe this?
>he thinks CRTs are worse than LCDs
>he thinks CRTs have a "resolution"
Lurk moar
new macbook pros are built out of some fancy aluminium
dropped my TB pro from like 4 feet and not a scratch
I have one. I basically only use it for work because it just works with the rest of my office's hardware (monitors, chiefly). Got it on sale at Best Buy for $1,000. But then again, I'm kind of an idort
>Work in marketing
>One of those 'cool trendy' offices
>You know the ones
>Everyone is young (to be fair I'm only 24, so I'm no better)
>There's an office dog
>No cubicles
>Everyone has multiple mac monitors and desks that can go from traditional (the sit down type) to standing
>If they're not using their monitors they're working on mac laptops
>Or playing around on their iPhones/iPads
>I think I'm the only one in the office who uses an Android (Nexus 5x)
>Even our IT staff uses Apple products
>Bring my 2015 rMBP in to work
>Plug into monitors, do work
>Edit/write copy, make designs, attend meetings, fiddle with GA, SEO and automated marketing software
>Go home play on my gaming computer of futz around with my Thinkpad running linux
P-Plus I don't feel left out
>13 macbook pros start at $1300 and that's the more popular model
1450€ here. That's $1620.

CRTs have a resolution dummy
Antifragile
The point is a consumer sees this years phone/computer and compares it to their year or two old phone/comp and starts to feel inferior. Even though for the typical user there will be very little day to day difference between the two.
That guy looks like a cuck
Acceleration, though lambos aren't really worth the price compared to competitors
women are stupid
Quality and an operating system that's better polished and better than WinShit. I'd rather use Mac OS instead anyday instead of unprofessional, unstable and buggy penguins
>faulty analogy
what a bunch of shit
cars today are much quicker and faster and superior in every way compared to their predecessors.
art is not a functional device. you cannot measure its performance quantitatively the way you can any piece of technology. computers improve, cars improve, medical imaging improves, cancer treatments improve. there is no basis by which you can measure art to assess whether is has improved over previous artwork
t. Someone who doesnt understand CRTs
CRTs have lines. Which could be seen as a discrete resolution vertically. However, there is no resolution in the horizontal direction.
A graphics card outputs data discretely, and thus it will output that to the CRT to display, but the CRT takes that data and makes it not discrete.
It's not about that at all. The electronic devices replaced in the fashion described in the paragraph are perfectly functional and do everything pretty much just as well as the new one. The reason they are replaced is not the technological advance. It's pure novelty. The fact that something newer looking is available immediately renders your device old. The progress between the iterations is absolutely irrelevant to most people.
