The CPU isn't the problem, the airflow to the rest of the case is, GPU, mobo, HDD, the latter two don't really like high temps and shit airflow isn't good for anything.

Well I have a Cryorig C1, and a 300watt+ monster sitting beside my 1600X. Even at 100% load on all 12 threads it doesn't go over 60C. At idle it sticks around 32C which is 8C above ambient.
It's only a 140W TDP cooler. Same as the $35 Cryorig H7.

Swapped from a Scythe Fuma, which I love, to an Arctic freezer 240. Really it's just a bit quieter, a few degrees cooler at idle, and much better suppression of temperature spikes.

Yes, it will work with aircooling. Mostly because of the huge heatspreader and soldered dies.

I usually recommend 140-180W TDP cooler for Ryzen. Excessive, but it keeps the fan speed down and keeps them super quiet. Really a 110-125 is fine if you don't mind it spinning up.
For threadripper, I'd imagine you'll want to look more in the 180-240W TDP cooler range.

As mentioned, yeah air coolers will work perfeclty fine due to the large IHS.

The main criticism of Ryzen from prosumers at launch was the unstable, new nature of the platform combined with the shit BIOS and memory support. Ironically Skylake-X is having growing pains as well. If you need an expensive computer for your job and need it to be rock solid, buy Broadwell-E or a Xeon.

With water cooling the water can't be hotter than 60 degrees C or the water will start to evaporate and escape out of the loop.

If you have a radiator, put it outside the case. Why put it in the case, you're trying to get heat out of there. Its called a cooling loop. Fucking hell.

Price/performance doesn't matter when you don't pay for hardware. Of course Youtubers are going to use the best of the best regardless of price. Linus got a bunch of 6950X's for free, it's not like he's going to say, "Nah, I'd rather use Ryzen because of the price to performance."
