I mean, I am most certainly a computer illiterate retard, but still I never had such problems on 95/98/XP/7 ever before. Windows 10 was a mistake.
Windows 10 hate thread
Please wait. They are getting things set up for you.
Install Debian with XFCE.
...
So?
What do you mean it doesn't boot from CD?
The first thing you should have done is going to UEFI and switching it to BIOS mode, so you can enter BIOS at startup and choose boot medium.
Click the shutdown option while holding Shift.
I entered BIOS, but there was no option for booting from CD.
It all just looks so official. Makes me hate it all the more. Miss NT style and function. Now it has to look like it's doing something important or competitive and not just function and be more clear to understand and use.
Why does everyone throw a hissy fit about updating? The whole reason Microsoft has to force these updates down your throat is because everyone would ignore critical updates out of laziness, then whine when their computer get infected or looped into a actual botnet.
Just update your fucking computer for Christ's sake. It's not some crazy conspiracy to steal your porn browsing habits, it's to keep your computer from being the malware ridden shitshow windows is famous for, since "I don't wanna restart /download updates" is the meme of the century
Fuck Windows 10.
Once I installed an update on windows 7, and my antivirus detected 200 malware files afterwards.
> What is a false positive
That or you suck at using a computer safely
The fucking state of computing right now.
Windows 10: Literally malware. Microsoft wanting to snoop on you and shove ads and Candy Crush at you constantly, now actually preventing Home and Pro users from disabling their "Consumer Experience" bullshit
Apple: Insane greed - charge you an extra £1000 for the same hardware specs, all soldered, and won't guarantee it'll work for more than a year unless you pay them hundreds more for Applecare
Linux: Cobbled-together shite for nerds who have way too much time on their hands.
>inb4 "Works perfectly for me, nothing ever breaks, must be you"
Still doesn't have GOOD photo editing packages (Lightroom, Photoshop). No, GIMP and Darktable do not constitute 'good'.
Honestly don't know where to turn, what a mess
(you) deserve Win-tan. Hope (you) are condemned to use it forever.
The update process for Windows is extremely slow and annoying.
Or (You) know just use Common Sense™ 2017 and protect (you)rself from malware. Better yet, don't use Windows 10 and use a real OS.
Because every idiot believes there's some crazy conspiracy to telemetry instead of realizing the developers need information to fix the bugs that pop up.
Telemetry exists because after a decade of idiots running to MS screaming "MY MICROSOFT DON'T WORK" with absolutely no logs or leads, Microsoft finally said "Fuck you all" and forced it on so they don't have to deal with the public's incompetence to debug Windows and fix critical issues.
Also the "ads everywhere" is so overblown. You can take off any application that advertises form the start menu in under a minute, and if you hate ads just ignore the Windows Store, that's the only source of the Modern UI apps and the mobile ads that follow.
Stop being an dumbass about this, there's plenty to hate about Windows 10 but these are some of the most worthless complains about it.
Tough shit, pick a day during the month and do it.
It's like people would rather lose thier entire system and all the data on it vs updating once a month.
Plus these are the same morons who don't make backups of important stuff ever.
Except for anything that is able to exploit a critical vulnerability without user interaction, which happens frequently.
You aren't infallible, you will make mistakes, some things you can not avoid by just "playing it smart"
Update your fucking software like a sane human being.
> Use a real Operating System
Oh sure, OS "Buy a Mac" or everyone's favorite repurposes server OS
Wonderful, so do you not update those too? Just to see if you really are braindead.
>install windows 10
>it's shit
>uninstall windows 10
fucking windows
> Microsoft: too incompetent to debug their flagship operating system and fix critical issues before passing it out of alpha development.
FTFY, no charge.
> Microsoft said "Fuck you all"
to their entire customer base every day for the past 30 years.
Yes. We are well-aware of that.
>using nerd as a pejorative
pleb
> critical vulnerability without user interaction, which happens frequently.
This is why I keep back ups for all of my files in case something like Wannacry comes along and mass-infects computers.
Like seriously, if you know what you're doing, you're not gonna run into problems and not needing to update or have anti-virus software.
the updates they provide are not breaking my shit
unlike w10
I sort of get the telemetry and update enforcement issues, but it really needs an "I'm a big boy now and can take responsibility for my own decisions, you don't have to babysit me" switch.
And every update, fucking Candy Crush redownloads itself. How is advertising seen as acceptable in an OS that costs upwards of £100? Ubuntu nerds threw an absolute shitfit when the lens included some Amazon results, and you were actually allowed to turn that off (and it took like 2 seconds)
What do you mean incompetent. Users by far don't understand how debugging works, so they run to Microsoft screaming "Fix it" without actually having any idea of what the problem is, which in turn means Microsoft doesn't know what the fuck you're whining about.
Telemetry just takes the user out of the picture so the don't have to understand the problem in order for Microsoft to identify and fix it. It's just an automatic crash reporter 90% of the time, expect for the autist who insist the NSA gives two shits about thier Anime collection, or that somehow telemetry is the primary way they try to obtain this Information (hint, it's exploits like Wannacry and direct attacks on the companies)
Also this still doesn't address that a lot of these problems come from people's computers being fucked from not updating, which again, Microsoft has to force people to do.
Most of the changes in 10 just accept that most users are genuinely incompetent, and just push important stuff into the background automatically so the user can't fuck it up like they usually manage to.
Absolutely not.
We have had nearly 30 years of Microsoft Operating Systems. Every year there's more and more people who have no detailed understanding of Windows using it, and expecting it to just work.
Even when you had to know what you were doing much more in order to use a computer, people were lazy and didn't practice good security.
I fully support Microsoft dropping the hammer on this issue. People are idiots, don't even attempt to practice good security, and get lazy.
Automatic Updates removes the most inconsistent factor of cyber security, people
when will the "100% HDD usage with constant 2.5MB/s disk activity" meme end?
it really slows down my laptop
>Every year there's more and more people who have no detailed understanding of Windows using it, and expecting it to just work. if windows were like linux and not completely dumbed down like it is now people would be forced to actually learn how to use the shit
>People are idiots
Isn't that true for literally everything ever? It's pointless to tack on these restrictive "features" that at the end of the day will only make users jump ship. If people don't want to update, that's on them and they should know full well the risks involved. Microsoft shouldn't have to babysit it's userbase.
Do you mind actually saying what process is using it, and not being a perfect example of users who give useless information on problems?
Do you have a page file set? If your computer is using the page file to make up for lack of Ram, and your hard drive is slow, that would explain it
No, that's not how consumer technology works at all.
Do you know how to service your refrigerator in the even that it breaks? What if I told you you need to understand thermodynamics in order to keep your lunch cold?
Applicances need to be at a level where a normal Joe can just plug it in and more or less let it work on its own. Unfortunately for enthusiasts, computers are appliances at this point for most people. Simplicity is key at the end of the day.
Hi, Pajeet.
Yes, and if it was possible to turn it off, maybe while also invalidating your access to Windows support lines, I would mind.
*wouldn't mind
With a refrigerator i can go on and fix it and i do that not with the refrigerator specifically since mine never broke down but other things around the house
On Windows 10 they take away the option to fix it it´s like they made your refrigerator impossible to repair because the user might break it
and i agree the appliences have to be at a level the general plebs can use it but that does not imply they should not allow for higher complexity because only if you allow the plebs to use a more complex system they could learn to be more proficient
delete this
Jump shit to what exactly?
Linux? Do you think the normal guy or gal even knows what that is? Or how to install it? Or how to use the terminal? Half of them will be wondering "Why can't I install Photoshop" or whatever other windows only software that they've come to expect. More importantly if anything breaks, they're absolutely screwed if they can't find the solution themselves, which they won't.
OS X? Most people don't wanna spend $1000+ on a laptop, so it's out of the price range for most people looking to buy a computer. On top of that, they're learning a whole new OS. Who complains about the minor changes in Windows 10, so they go to a totally new OS in protest.
Beyond that, most normies don't care or even know about half these updates. They only moan because "My computer said it NEEDS to update, even though it warned me about this for days in advance"
I take that English is your second language...
I know everyone wants to circle jerk about computers being complicated, they are, but at the end of the day it causes problems for the users and maintainers because people make mistakes. If a decade of real world experience shows users WILL NOT do the right thing no matter how hard you try to convince them too, why is everyone upset that Microsoft took initiative and does it for you?
You keep talking about "people who are more capable", but you're literally asking Microsoft to let you turn off security updates because "I don't wanna download stuff, and I don't like restating". It's the same bullshit that lead to MS enforcing this in the first place.
I'm referring to experienced users that are fed up with the constant hand-holding. Perhaps if someone would teach the average normie to find the Command Prompt, we wouldn't be having a Communist China OS.
If the average person could be taught things, we wouldn't have half the problems that exist in the world.
When you move out of your idealistic fairytale lane where people want to learn, you accept that most people just aren't very smart, or more kindly, are only good at a few select things.
Expecting everyone to know how to use a computer safely is silly, because it's never gonna happen. That's why you design to keep it simple, and hide as much complexity from the user as possible. More options just means more ways an unskilled user can screw up.
>I take that English is your second language...
yes and sorry
>why is everyone upset that Microsoft took initiative and does it for you?
it´s not about them taking the initiative for all it matters keep everything as is by default
the thing that bothers me is the lack of ability to change it
> but you're literally asking Microsoft to let you turn off security updates
wrong
i am more than fine with security updates
i have always gone on and installed them manually on win7
the problem comes from the updates that have nothing to do with security and my inability to check and not install them
Microsoft can't just do that, Windows runs like 90% of all desktop/laptop computers.
They don't have the luxury of saying "Sorry not supported" when a vulnerability could mean almost every computer in the world could become a target for cyber attacks and data theif if Microsoft sits idle.
If it got really bad, they'd get flamed and sued for "doing nothing"
Not forcing updates is a lose lose for the company.
I'm saying there should be a switch that gives you a bright red pop up saying "if you turn off telemetry, you will no longer be eligible for tech support"
So OP you're complaining about your OS being updated?
They're almost always stability updates, just because it doesn't say "critical" doesn't mean it's useless.
More importantly I'm fairly sure you're allowed to cue up not critical updates to wait until the next critical update to be applied in the settings.
Updates are annoying at best, not something for all this irrational hate to be aimed at, and almost completely justified on Microsofts part to keep WannaCry like attacks at bay (MFW Microsoft patched WannaCry two months before the outbreak, if you got hit its completely the victims fault)
>More options just means more ways an unskilled user can screw up.
And that's why instruction manuals exist as well as a plethora of resources to Google how to solve a problem. Me or anyone else who knows how to use a computer properly shouldn't be punished for a minority.
You aren't being punished, you have to restart your computer like once or twice a month for updates, and you can even delay it for a few days just to make sure you're ready. It's not a big deal.
Also notice how it's the "experienced users" who seem to be the only ones ACTIVELY TRYING TO UNDO THE THING MICROSOFT IMPLEMENTED TO AVOID SECURITY HAZARDS?
Like I would LOVE to get a statistic of how many people who go out of their way to block forced updates get infected with something they don't notice down the line.
i was specifically refering to updates that add "features" and no i don´t want to just cue them up i don´t want them period
> if you got hit its completely the victims fault
i absolutely agree and i don´t see anyone pretending otherwise
Like what exactly? The only one that stands out as annoying is the Candy Crush deal they have going, and you can just ignore it and not open it at all. The only downside is a little bandwidth, and if that's limited you should try to get an ISP that isn't trying to fuck you in the ass for money.
OP, hopefully you're still in this thread, because the freeware program O&O ShutUp10 will fix most of your annoyances with one click. Disables automatic updates, telemetry, advertisements, and a fuckload more (pic related.)
Also, if anyone ever asks you "what exactly is wrong with Windows 10?" just show them this picture. Lists out like 50+ criticisms (though most are subjective of course.)
You mean like the "You should install your updates and restart" dialog in Windows 7 that everyone universally ignored?
People don't read warnings half the time, and if the problem was severe enough, Microsoft could still be liable to be sued for criminal negligence in some courts.
You have FAR to much faith in the competence of mankind.
living with a monopoly of a single shit isp is not a good livingsituation i fear
Welcome to late stage capitalism /s
Make the switch hard to find, then. It's not something that tech illiterate retards will be looking for anyway. If they can have people sign away their rights without getting sued, they won't get sued for something as basic as this.
Enjoy your zero day malware! Nice ultity though.
>You aren't being punished
So the forced updates when someone is in the middle of something important and it turns out that your work wasn't saved, or the constant NSA-style spying is a good thing? Taking away someone's rights for some shitty """"Protection"""" ? I call bullshit. As long you have some sense upstairs and know the necessary steps to take to solve a problem, you shouldn't have to deal with this crap.
>pick a day during the month and do it.
more like a whole weekend
10 installing updates
20 reboot
30 configuring updates
40 reboot
50 configuring updates
60 something happened™
70 reboot
80 undoing changes
90 reboot
100 undoing changes
110 goto 10
Except Microsoft doesn't want ANYONE to turn it off in an ideal world. Any internet facing computer should be running secure software that doesn't have known vulnerabilities.
If you must keep your install on a specific version of windows for whatever reason, take it offline until you're ready to update.
k
That's the problem, though. I'd rather have to fix viruses myself than have telemetry. I've used Windows XP, 7, and 8.1 for years and never had a virus or any need for tech support, and until I'm allowed to have the same level of control over windows 10, I'll stay with 7.
Is there a skin for Win10 that fixes the minimize button?
It warns you DAYS IN ADVANCE. It also gives you the option to set an explicit TIME AND DATE FOR WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN.
If you get caught in the middle of something, it's almost entirely your own fault.
Points back to my point, people don't read warnings.
E V E R
some (shit) bios just straight up don't support it.
>when it will happen
>not "when I say it can happen"
You see. Windows 7 didn't have this issue ever. It would tell me about updates but I could postpone it indefinitely if I chose to. I should update in my time, not whenever windows says it's going to. I shouldn't have to set up "active hours" bullshit. That's just a crappie cop out bandaid for the bigger problem that is forcing me to update when ever it feels like regardless of what I'm doing. I've lost so many rendering projects because I'm trying to render some shit that takes for fucking ever and windows will shutdown without giving me a chance to save or anything.
>If you get caught in the middle of something, it's almost entirely your own fault.
This should never happen because windows should never force me to install anything
No, I am complaining that they don't give me a choice without doing some additional time wasting.
Aka control freak
Not an argument
Totally agree with what says, people should have a choice on when to update. Also just because a minority doesn't want to take the time and read instructions, doesn't mean I or anyone else should suffer the consequences of said person. All of these restrictions makes the user feel like an animal in a cage.
Just like how "I'd rather get viruses than do error reporting" is a stupid argument
I have never had this after an update, like someone else has said, you're just fucking shit at using the computer.
Because it's not an argument, it's a personal preference that most people here seem to share, and it would be nice to have the option. I would upgrade immediately if they offered it.
Yeah, postpone it indefinitely usually becomes "eternally" because people wouldn't actually commit to the updates for months or years. It can't help patch a vulnerability if you don't install the fucking thing ever.
Also what is it that you are doing that you spend days rendering, yet you can't check that it isn't patch Tuesday? It just sounds like your arent even attempting to adapt.
Except it should, since you wouldn't have done it anyways even if it begged you too.
Wannacry was also a non issue on Windows 10 because of Microsoft's aggressive update policy, probably the least stressful mass exploit they've dealt with in years since it only hit 7 and XP.
They're never gonna a back down from this, there's too many pros for everyone.
Because this is Sup Forums, half of the people here parrot anything non mainstream they hear as the word of God.
Because your choice is idiotic. Just because it's your personal opinion doesn't mean it's right, or a good idea
It's a stupid personal opinion though. Just because it's a personal opinion, it doesn't make it right or even a good idea.
You're actively screaming for the option to put yourself at risk of preventable malware attacks just because you don't wanna restart your computers once a month. It's so short sighted and foolish
>Buy HP Elitebook x360
>Wlan is complete shit and always loses connection.
>try to contact their support
>mfw their business support can't speak decent german and even fucks up serial number
>sends me to consumer support
>where they tell me I'm wrong
>sends me to the right people
>get thrown out of the call for no reason at all
>call again, computer voice takes forever, 17:59 the support is closed, get kicked out of call
>decide to go for the support forum
>"have you tried our business support", rest wasn't helpful at all
>decide to wipe the laptop, send it back and get a new one
>turns out after the windows updates are reset the wlan is fine
>mfw
Windows 10 is a steaming pile of bullshit.
> I would upgrade immediately if they offered it.
Is this the new "i would totally get windows 8 if it wasn't for the taskbar"
You do realize you can uninstall individual update packages if they break things right? Just remove the specific update that breaks WLAN
Pretty much
I didn't know it was an update that killed the card. I had the thing for less than 24 hours and it didn't work from the start, I just assumed the wlan card had a defect.
Because I don't like my rights violated, retard.
>Yeah, postpone it indefinitely usually becomes "eternally" because people wouldn't actually commit to the updates for months or years. It can't help patch a vulnerability if you don't install the fucking thing ever.
No those windows 7 updates would happen within 4 hours
>build my first PC
>buy Windows 10
>its fucking shit the memes are real
>end up using Pirated 7
>society should cater to idiots
Except you could just delay it again after those 4 hours, endlessly. Even if you ignored it it wouldn't enforce the restart.
And then people who were annoyed by that would turn the updates off entirely.
Another shining example of how people do the worst possible thing for themselves out of laziness
I love the people who just say "IT A BAD" without actually saying why.
Oh no, error reporting is a crime to humanity! What ever shall we do?
idiots make up 90% of society, so yes.
>Make a Mircosoft account for download the trail version of Microsoft Office
>Connect my brand new account to my laptop
>gets locked out after turning it off and on again
I have a 500 dollar paper weight now. Thanks Mircosoft.
>install win10 on my 3k video editing rig
>psu catches fire spontaneously due the spywarez
Thanks Micro$hit
>refusing to update your system
Why? Can anyone actually give me a real reason why you wouldn't update your system? Yes, Windows' update process is slow and annoying, but don't act like your time is so valuable that you can't afford to spend a few minutes rebooting your computer once a month.
No not endlessly. At the end of the day you're going to bed I really doubt you're gonna wake up in the middle of the night to hit "postpone" again and go back to bed. It would always happen within 4 hours. If you went away for 4 hours went to sleep for the night or went to work it was bound to happen.
the people who complain about it are the people who only begrudgingly moved on from XP in the last year or two, you're not going to get any real answers other than "hurr malware" or some shit as if they aren't already part of the botnet just by virtue of the fact they're using winshit
Laptop of my GF has been trying to install the same update for years whenever it was shut down, until I fixed it. Same for my parents laptop (although not that long).
You lose tech illiterate people if your product has problems like this. It's also mindboggling why windows doesn't notice this kind of error itself.
Have you considered Linux?
But seriously, how have you been locked out? From the store? Why?
install gentoo
It's not that people are refusing to update their systems. It's that they hate the fact that Microsoft forces you to update and the updates don't respect what you're doing and will stop everything regardless of what you're doing. So your only option is to disable the update service entirely
>Pro
Why bother? Everyone on Sup Forums has keys saved from their Win7 Ultimate dazloader upgrades.
Plus, Pro is shit tier - Edu or Enterprise are best, LTSB king tier
