It doesn't need a rewrite vim and its various forks are the editors with bugs. Emacs needs its key bindings and default behavior to be completely redone while not trying to throw in everything like spacemacs does.

there's a scheme mode but you should download geiser to get some REPL and documentation features

also obviously you'll need an external scheme executable
