Let's fix that.

sure, still a work in progress

did you kill someone with that, what's with the red splatters?

Red paint.

right... sure it is

I still have the spray paint can.

The reason it looks like that is because the nozzle was broken. Have you never had a nozzle break on you?

Why? Did you get a junk yard case or do you think that actually looks good? Either way, you are a fucking moron.

>Why? Did you get a junk yard case or do you think that actually looks good? Either way, you are a fucking moron.
It was an old BMW-styled case (the previous one was small as fuck) I got as a freebie from someone along with 2 DVD-ROM drives (a writer and a simple DVD-ROM drive, both IDE) that was scratched to hell and back. I painted it black after a failed attempt (shown in pic) of painting it red.
Here's another shot of it.

now i remember why i stopped using this p4 2 caps are bulged damn

Seems like a 775-socket mainboard. Is it an Asus P5-series mainboard and what CPU is under that huge cooler?

Judging by that sticker, that grill and the SATA cable being labeled "SATA", you also have an Allied PSU (or a clone of it).

It don't know what the quality of the PSU is. I've searched for "Monster", but I can't find any additional information on the web about the PSU. Perhaps the company doesn't exist anymore. This rig is built back in 2007 and it was a really expensive one.

>It don't know what the quality of the PSU is. I've searched for "Monster", but I can't find any additional information on the web about the PSU. Perhaps the company doesn't exist anymore.
It's to be expected, the company that used to build these (Deer) was under a whole load of names. The most known names of them were L&C and Allied.

That one you have there is an Allied. I have an PSU exactly like that branded as Allied AL-8400BTX.

Looking at it, that machine doesn't really eat a lot of power though.

This is what I like seeing, these older machines are much more interesting than most of the machines we see here with gaymen motherboards and LEDs and all stupid shit like that. Why motherboards for example are ugly as fuck these days and have all kinds of stupid plastic covers and useless gaymer lights everywhere?

Flexing e-penis. That is pretty much it.

Allied was a cheap brand for power supplies. It doesn't matter if a system uses a lot of power. Cheap power supplies have bad caps that will leak or explode sooner or later. Bad caps will cause big power ripples at the DC side of the power supply. Either the system will get unstable or the components inside will damage.

The system that I've shown is laying around and isn't in use at the moment. If I going to use it I will replace the power supply for example a Cooler Master B500.

>If I going to use it I will replace the power supply for example a Cooler Master B500.
Depending on the load, probably a Seasonic PSU of 350-400W will do.

I use one with a Athlon II X4 and a Radeon HD3450 though, so YMMV. A good thing to do is calculate about how much power all the components eat, and to that wattage, add about 50W as a safety margin. That should tell you how much power do you need.

Butthurt user from reddit who installed his gaymen stuff into rare XBOX alpha machine. Sound the alarms

inb4 that guy with the awful bodge-job of a watercooling system with the Iwaki pump crammed in it comes along and gives us LGA 1366 people a bad name

copper-braid rounded IDE are the most aesthetic cables

it wouldn't make me nearly as mad if they just sold "plain" versions with the bling left off, ordinary heatsinks instead of fancy shapes, etc.

Fuck msi, wait till you have to rma something

Their RMA process for my r9 390 was very easy. Maybe i just got lucky.

Cool. What do you store on it?

Anime, porn, anime porn.... Well, along with TV/movies (the slot closest to the CPU is a tuner card) and a huge pile of RAW photos, but who cares about that? I have some scripts to sync my other machines to/from it. I have another machine for gaymen but since I haven't been doing much of that recently, it's moved from "storage, home server" to "pretty much everything".

12x3TB in six mirror vdevs.

The agility 3 finally gave a "drive failure: yes" on the smart in hwinfo64 the other day, so I retired it and reinstalled on the 850 pro. Hope it serves me as well as the Ocz.

Haven't had any luck on getting 220+ bclk stable with this cpu, so I'll probably get a x5660 on ebay and sell the e5649 locally. Will end up with a profit anyway.

I'll test with a friends x5650 first, but almost certain its the cpu and not mobo. None of the tricks have given results, upping pcie, cpu/pcie scew, amplitude, upping pll, lowering qpi etc..

Fuck you. No just kidding, I love you x58 bro :3

Still no xeon? What ram are you getting?

>Still no xeon? What ram are you getting?
I've actually got an Athlon II X4 620 for cheap along with a Gigabyte GA-MA770-US3 (the DDR2 version) for $1.21.

As for the RAM, I need one more 1GB stick (I have two machines - this main machine and a E5300 machine I sometimes use for fun) for my E5300 machine, then the other 1GB sticks I have around in the house will go into my X4 machine.

That, and another thing on my "to buy" list is a Scythe Katana IV HSF, as the current Spire HSF I use doesn't cut it.

I see. Just bought 5x4TB myself. Why ZFS? If it's for dedup, XFS just gained support for that while using much less ram.

I RMA'd a GTX 460 with them a few years back. Received a GTX 570 in return in just over a week.

Oh, and along that, the PSU will be replaced too, with a Seasonic SS-351HT, with a 12cm fan.

The current GPU I got with the motherboard that the X4 resides in will probably go in a nForce 4 based machine - it's a Radeon HD3450 1GB from Sapphire, PCI-E, that I mainly use for testing. Quite nice to have around, especially since it uses S-Video so I can test out stuff even without a VGA monitor. (I made my own DIY S-Video cable out of an old PS/2 keyboard cord and some unused Playstation video cable, along with a 3.5mm jack for audio)

You got it for under 2 dollars? Damn, thats a steal!

The Athlon2 x4 620 sucks tho, if you can find a cheap Phenon2 x4 then do so, the added L3 cache makes a world of differance.

A nice thing about the amd system is you can get cheap sticks of high density ram. search for "8gb ddr2" on ebay and you'll see.

I'm just shitposting. But you should still clean that up, it's such a shame to have a really nice pump just dumped on top of a piece of foam like that. You deserve a nice neat looking machine, user.

Checksums and scrubbing. vanilla mdadm can detect inconsistencies (eg, when two sides of a mirror aren't the same) but can't really do anything about it, since it doesn't know which side is correct in the absence of checksums.

They're finally fixing btrfs RAID56 in 4.12, or so they say. btrfs is what I really wanted to use, since you can rebalance it, and remove disks. But I'm gonna wait a couple of kernel versions after that, they have a history of nasty bugs breaking things.

For under $2, it's pretty nice.

Being a Deneb, even unlocking the 6MB L3 cache is fine with me. Second hand Phenoms are quite expensive here though, and the only one I've found (X4 955BE) is twice as much as the Xeon I found was. Anyways, if it it's at least on par with an Core 2 Quad, I'm more than happy.

The only thing that I got for $2 (actually $2.42), was the Seasonic SS-351HT PSU. I tested it and it's working, the only thing it needed was to be cleaned of the dust,

Oh wait, didn't read enough.

Although I'm a bit confused here, as CPU-World states the X4 620 is a Propus, though they don't mention a Propus Athlon II X4 in their unlock list. (although they mention the CPUID string of the 620.)

Anyways, I'll see what the motherboard has in store for me and my CPU.

>Fuck msi, wait till you have to rma something

This.

I have had to RMA every single one of MSI products so far.

What is that PCI card with a (what looks like a) IDE bus going into it?

All these legacy builds today, nice.

Sitting on the foam its almost totally silent tho, I KNOW if i mount it somewhere, even with rubber stuff in between it'll make me REEEE to utter hell with vibrations from the case.

Anyway, with the door closed I couldn't care less how it looks inisde.. To me its just a metal cube sitting there. Pluss I do get some enjoyment out of the >you's I always get on here too :)

If I remember correctly, some of them did unlock the L3, but only certain batches. Can't remember what to look for in the numbers on it, you'll just have to test it out.

Yea, I know the ebay prices on the Phenoms can be ridiculous. Only chance is pretty much locally.

I have a Asus M2N-E I found in the garbage at the hospital I worked at a few years ago.. Its one of the early AM2 boards, and pretty fucking low end. But the good thing is it supports phenom2 chips up to 95w with the latest beta bios. Got a x4 945 95w dirt cheap from Hong Kong, think it was on sale.

Overclocks to 3.7ghz, mobo limits further. But thats quite nice for what it is. Poor 3 phase vrm's squeel pretty good under load :P

A friend agreed to give me a gtx1080 in exchange for folding on his old gtx970's during the winter, I'll probably use it for that. Heat is heat, might as well do some good with it.

Went from an rx 480 to gtx 1080 thanks to miners

Waiting on Vega. My 980ti is good for now I suppose. I can do 1580mhz on the core without the card falling out of boost.

Eh,I got a Radeon R7 240 2GB for free, so that'll be helpful for the 620 I guess.

is it worth selling my r9 290 for something nvidia due to the mining meme

Are they sought after? If you can cash in on it, do it. Get a 1060 6gb if you can make it even, they'll beat it at waay lower powerdraw.

asus sound card.
it should have been designed as a double card but they made it individual like a sli cable

i updated it, i attempted cable management. i have zip tied most of them out of the way and dusted the inside. the cpu cooler had a lot of dust

What are those fan's brand?

STX? I have it too :3 Won't spend more money on sound, stx + mdr-v6 is plenty good for me.

That psu tho, looks quite old.. From around the Corsair HX1000 era? Is it any good?

What cpu? any oc?

yeah a stx
psu isnt that old, its a fresh one from a RMA

hey guts I stripped the screws of my HDD and now I can't take it out
What do I do?

leave it in and put in the new one in another bay

...

The ones in the front are the phanteks ones that came with the case, the white ringed ones are corsair

Same case buddy.
I only got mine last week. You know if I can fit an AIO cooler from the GPU to the front?

I don't see why not, unless you have extra hard drives in those front bay expansions that may get in the way

Hey, I have a 980Ti too, although it's a reference one. What kind of voltage do you set when you're running at 1580MHz?
Right now the most I did was +250MHz, +20mV on the core. When I went to +300MHz it started putting a red tint on textures in Witcher 3. Scared to increase voltage though, it's my first novidya card. I'd appreciate some tips.

do you find only 4 cores sucks?

>tfw corelet
when doing extensive workload? yes, totally.
When running multiple VMs? yes, totally.
when shitposting and gaming, not really. Although with gaming that's soon to become a concern, but then I'll just get a Ryzen 7.

A picture of the internals of my desktop computer where I sit for 14 hours a day, everyday.

What the hell do you do for 14 hours a day on your computer?

whats the bottom black slot for?
what sound card is that?

I'm the same, all my boards are pure motherboards, not tricked out with flashy leds or stuffed inside cases with leds or windows.

With the top off

the slot looks a lot like old parallel SCSI.

i forgot that existed. rip
i didnt know there was boards with scsi and sata both

its expansion slot for hp gay shit
a asus xonar sound card

HP 2 Slot PCI Extender Card

They overlapped for a while in the mid 2000s because there was a period of time where SATA was good enough for a consumer IDE replacement but not good enough for the servers and shit that had been using Ultra 160 and Ultra 320. Eventually we got enterprise SATA drives and parallel SCSI was kill. The command set though, that lives on.

Guess this wasn't an example of it though.

>its expansion slot for hp gay shit
so if you got the expansion card you'd have a computer (male)?

oh wow. never heard of that.

Server & Desktop share same case.
Server: FX-8300,8GB,1TB (OS/Client Backups),& 9TB Raid-5 (Data)
Desktop: Phenom II x4 955,32GB,160GB (OS/Programs),1TB (backup/data)

in this days yes.

it's okay son.

Just like for a while boards had two IDE and 1 Floppy port + SATA ports and also had both AGP 8x, PCI-Express 16, PCI and PCI-E.
The ASRock 939 Dual Sata II is a prime example. It is one of the few boards made that didn't gimp either the AGP or PCI-E16 slots. No compromises, you could run graphics cards in one or both slots at full speed. Or toss in a pci card for 9 displays (3 ports per card). Another nice thing was it had a daughter cpu/ram expansion card slot as to take as least in theory a max of a AM2+ cpu.and ddr2 ram So if it was compatible you could toss in a Phenom II (95w tdp) and ram and be on your way

ever taken a look at your temperatures? shit must be frying

meant that both the server and desktop use the same case as in the pic. far as temps go nah they both run pretty cool. Server is housed in my basement with a dedicated fan blowing on it for extra insurance

1080ti came today
either gonna buy another one or a vive and play it drunk with buds

Probably the vive
