>inb4 someone recommends bokunopico

I just had to fix it a couple more times. Since it isn't soldered, it seems to be prone to moving out of place. I'm typing on it now, and I screwed in the keyboard, but I'm still scared.

>Don't buy anything OTHER THAN HP Elitebook (2570p, 8770W, 2170p), Dell Latitude/Precision (E6440) and T, X, and W SERIES if you want the Real Business Experience™

thermal grizzly kryonaut.

Is Cooler Master a bad brand for thermal grease? I applied some HTK-002 on my T530 because that's the only thing I had around at the time...

It's better than stock.

But something like arctic mx4 or noctua nt h1 is really cheap and provides good performance.

>buy X230 with 9-cell battery
>calibrate battery once when I get it, says about 48Wh left
>good enough
>actually need to use the battery
>inconsistent readings between Windows and Linux, and 48Wh should get like 5 hours not 2-3
>recalibrate again
>30Wh

fuckkk guess it's time to get a new battery

>replace dying mini pci wireless adapter with 7$ usb adapter
>no more connectivity issues
>3x the speed
>and another hour of battery life
huh, didnt expect that one
for any oldpad thinkfags on here, replace your pci adapters with a tp link 750n
my T42 is a happy lad now

Any archfags know how to get the media-keys working?
volume / screen brightness works out of the box with gnome, kde, xfce4 but not with a fresh install + i3

Best thinkpad for 100% freedom.

>using winXP
You fucking idiot, STOP
>for any oldpad thinkfags on here, replace your pci adapters with a tp link 750n
>usb
Fuck that gay shit. I use PCMCIA cards instead. Also one of my computers doesn't have usb port nor wlan-card.

Define 100% freedom. You'll have to compromise somewhere.

Just get a x200 and libreboot that shit.

How do I shine the outer casing of my x220 with make it look brand new?

I'm not selling it or anything but it looks so worn out now

I'd like to know this too, I don't like how mine looks, been thinking about wynil wrapping it.

just buy another lid

Is a T400 for $60 a good deal? I just want a system that lets me watch animu, shitpost on Sup Forums, play GBA games, and write simple code.

no

Is it supposed to cost $15 for just a gram?
Guess I could give it a try, both seem to be better than those thermal pastes based on metallic compounds.

help please :'(

I bought a y700 ideapad acz (I know, terrible idea, amd is shit and all, but I'm fucking broke and guy was selling it cheap) but the game performance is fucking GARBAGE, the dedicated gpu does not seem to be working properly. I've tried updating drivers, switching power modes, everything, and I still can't even get a solid 60fps on fucking runescape. I know i am a retard for buying this but is there anything I can do to make it work properly? I've seen this laptop play battlefield one and ff15 no problem but mine can barely run tyranny

>Is it supposed to cost $15 for just a gram?
???which one?

mx4 and noctua are usually $7 or $8 for 3 or 4 grams on amazon.

>Price goes up to $25
Man, why can't we tacos have nice things, too?

Blame aduanas.

XP is fine user, especially for an old system like this, I could by all means do Ubuntu or something but then I dont get to use this machine for its current purpose
>old ass games
I'm not retarded and I can avoid malware and shit
PCMCIA is more expensive and due to age, probably wouldnt perform as well and id need an antenna for many models I could get for cheap
Also I took out my PCMCIA brackets to get better cooling (sounds like BS but it does actually work)
If youre running something so old it doesnt have USB you should by all means use PCMCIA
But this was a 7$ upgrade for an old ass machine and I think anyone with a _20/30/40 with a spare usb port should get one

50/50 acetone and water
Lightly applied with a soft sponge
Errodes the plastic and creates a new sheen
Just be aware that if you let it sit wet it may damage the plastic

/tpg/ how do I get used to this??

you just do

get a (3d) gf (female)

raise sensitivity and mouse speed way up, disable touch pad

is there anything running in the background? what cpu/gpu specifically? you're talking about RS3, right? You're using the NXT client and have messed with the game settings as well, right?

Cant really disable touchpad because there is now touchpad and trackpoint options just one option called touchpad

How do I make it two separate options?

Anybody buy a ultrabay HDD caddy for a T420? Which one did you get?

Swapping *230 keyboard with *220 one is totally worth it, guys. It kinda just feels better for typing. It's so easy, just a few screws, some electrical tape and a little file work. It works without any controller flashing, but some of the buttons will be mislabeled. You can get used to it, though.

is there any way to get the grip of a slice battery on a T420s? I can't live without it and I have no clue how to get it. Can't get another thinkpad cuz every other one doesnt fit my requirements (mainly coreboot and fhd IPS screen, also a somewhat strong iGPU, stronger than shitty intel integrated graphics 3000, thats why I use one with Nvidia NVS 4000m)

I was just fucking with you. My T40 still needs work (and I pray to god I can get replacement keyboard cheap because too lazy to clean it).
It's often hard decision when GNU/Linux can do a lot more than XP but the support for games and other weird software is non existant on Ubuntu or Linux in general. Not worth the time to fuck around with wine.
>I'm not retarded and I can avoid malware and shit
I was thinking. Even if you get malware and your hdd gets encrypted, does it really matter? I mean you can always nuke the hdd and install the soft again. But then I am not sure how would I nuke the hdd safely without using USB devices. Would it need Cd and right soft to do the job (like gparted)
Nevertheless, I have thought of getting a usb wlan due its convenience, so I don't have to configure a shit ton of networking to create complicated system when each machine can connect to the main router.

Also support on Linux on a shitty HP laptop that I have have got me insane. This stupid shit and shitty linux drivers just won't work the way it's supposed to. It's all so tiresome. Might as well install gentoo on this.
>mfw thinkpad 701cs win95 bluescreens and is piece of fucking shit

chiclet is better

Do you guys think I could run FFXIV on a T400? If not, could I upgrade the GPU internally?

No, if you're looking for upgradable GPUs you need a laptop with MXM graphics.
I believe saucey's guide has some info on that, and if you're adamant about leaving 1st Gen, there was one model by HP with MXM graphics, can't remember the model, though...

I want to get a Thinkpad with good performance as well as a good screen/keyboard/track pad, but holy fuck every model seems to have a problem. ~~20 and 30 have shit screens, 40 and above have shit track pads, etc.

Right palmrest is hot?
Middleton bios and cooler running wifi card.
>thinkwiki.org/wiki/Middleton's_BIOS
New thermal paste wouldn't be bad, it'll take awhile to disassemble and the screws are a fun mess if you get them mixed up.

Autism detected
It runs better with the USB dude, who cares about the aesthetic, its not a macbook.

If it has a good battery, its a good buy.
It should handle GBA games with ease, I played Saturn roms w/ my X61T.

>i'm broke
>I decided to buy a gaming laptop
>it doesn't work like it should :(
go to /sqt/ next time

The thing is that modern ThinkPads are heavily criticized from old models by enthusiasts. These are the 'problems', they don't meet the standard of the old guard.

The T440 can have its touchpad replaced with the T450.
>if I have to do that, I might as well buy a T450
THERE YOU GO SHIT FUCK, SOLVED YOUR FUCKING ISSUE

Oh and guess what dipshit. All good ThinkPads have non-gaming GPUs, so gaming will SUCK.

You could get an M6600, swap in a 7970, 680m or try an 880m from Alienware machines.

Honestly you should just a gaming laptop, because you're literally basing performance off just gaming and not what they were meant for.

Don't ask for a recommendation when you don't even talk about your budget.

you don't, it's a meme.

eGPU

eGPU via Express card is the solution.

Is there any place where I can buy dankpads with bitcoins?

Apart from Newegg, which stopped using this kind of payment earlier this year.

xbindkeys, then have them set to commands like amixer set Master 5%- or xbacklight -inc 10

is x230 better than x220?

What's that retro thinkpad going to be?

I'm running linux on a X220 and the keyboard's audio volume/activation buttons seem to be locked. What package do I need to unlock them?

Nevermind, I had to untick an option in the sound manager.

Where can I find a caddy adaptor for my new W530 that fits it well. I just bought one but it's shit.

So I already have a t460s running arch and an x1 carbon running Ubuntu. But I wanted something that I could put into checked baggage while traveling that was both cheap and durable so I picked up a 3rd gen yoga x11e last week. Its a bit slow but man is it durable. Works great with Linux too.

Yeah it doesn't have a track point but I really don't care as I don't use it anyway. The trackpad leaves a bit to be desired but for $300 I am pretty happy. Especially given the 8 hours of battery life I am getting out of it.

>eGPU via Express card
How well does this shit work?

bumping my question

then did you try replacing the ssd with the old disc?

ya

Thread died last time before I could see if it got any responses, but since the EEP discount is 33% right now I could get a P71 with the Xeon E3-1505M and Quadro P3000 for under $2000. Is it worth it, or could I get a better machine for the price?

i was thinking of upgrading from x220t to a modded x230, but peformance difference isnt that much is it? I'm better off saving enough money for a ux550?

Master-race incoming.

Lasts for decades.

Probably a T series with IBM coloring.

Anons,

I'm looking for drivers for the X201 but apparently Lenovo has wiped them from the face of the earth. There's nothing on their website and even a serial number search doesn't find anything. Is there a place to get them or am I fucked?

drivers for what exactly

Intel HD Graphics for a start

did you try googling it

Desktop GPU
Dock
PSU

Plug power to the dock and GPU and shove the Expresscard to it's slot and you are done.

How much is too much for a thinkpad X220 in very good condition with a 120GB SSD and 8GB of RAM in a third world country

thinkpad forums

I bought a shitty one from Ali a few months back for 5 eurobucks. The quality is shit but it does an ok job of housing my ssd. The fucker falls out sometimes though.

Sup Forums please advise. Looking for a thinkpad with 8gb ram, and 500mb-1tb HDD. Preferably a non dogshit processor. Does this exist for under £250?

yes

Do you have any links/names? Amazon was useless.

T420, T520, or X220.

read the OP? every model you can replace the ram and hard drive

I'm not that tech literate so I was hoping to find one that came with it.

T420/430 with some upgrades
Many you can get for that price that already have 8gb of ram and a 1tb hdd on eBay
Processor upgrades are easy too if needed, but many resellers ship them with i5/i7's anyway
