Bring iPhone 7 with you back in time to the year 1940

What do you think would happen?

>locked piece of shit that can't do anything without internet or itunes
>there's no internet and there's no itunes
fucking nothing

They ask why there isn't an audio jack.

You can still take pictures/video and run scripts if you have phone python or Ruby installed

Get the top scientists alive to reverse engineer it and advance the worlds technology by 100 years, so by the year 2017 it would be like 500 years in the future, thus saving humanity.

Smartphones are useless in a society that has no cell towers and no internet. iOS is so locked down anyway it's difficult to general computing on it. The best you can really do is use the calculator.
It would be pretty sick to show Hitler furry porn tho.

Until you run out of power. Unless OP assumes you take a power adapter with you. And even then, I don't know if electricity/sockets had the same standards then as they do now.

...

>iTunes

Why are anti-apple spergs' info sheets from 2009? I haven't touched iTunes in years. You don't even know anything about what you're trying to criticize. You're dumb.

The problem is that the manufacturing processes and supply chains wouldn't be capable of creating an object like a smartphone. Advances in technology are just as much advances in how things are built.

In my usual isekai stories, the MC usually brings solar cell phone charger.

A USB to outlet plug would list voltage and amp requirements on it and the scientific would figure that shit out quick.

Reverse engineering would still advance things greatly.

Don't think of it like a "we can replicate this by next year", think of it like a 80% research bonus to all related technology whereas everyone else doesn't get said bonus.

It's easier to get there, when you know what there is.

Our scientist will try to build a phone based on 1940 technology to remove the commies and then zhe whole world

>Implying they wouldn't fry half the chips just analyzing the board
>implying looking at multilayer chipsets with nanometer wide transistors would be useful at all

Like looking at space technology.

>travel back in time almost instantly
>iPhone already 5% battery
>bring a genuine Apple charger cable with you
>the cable of course breaks when you take it out of your pocket
>try to at least impress people by saying it's a fancy mirror
>it's kinda bad at it

If nothing else, it would show which technologies are physically possible to create, and make it more feasible to invest in transistors/printed circuit boards/etc. earlier than otherwise would happen.

USB cables aren't hard to repair. Even the scientists would be able to splice a connection back together with relative ease.

Voids the warranty.

>if I went back in time 45 years and gave one of the R&D guys at IBM my ...Nintendo 3DS would they be able to make much use of it with regard to reverse engineering?

>fried chips are better than no chips for study
>the only useful thing on the iPhone for science is the transistors

The Lithium battery alone would astound engineers of the 1940's.

Phone would be useless since most people have apps that require an internet connection. No encyclopedia no dictionary zilch. You might be able to get away with an app like mathway or translate possibly if it's installed already. Most people would end up with a brick or at least a pocket calculator. If you're a student you should prepare your anus. Work will have to be written out and IQ matters. Common Core does not exist and there are no lowered bars. Rote memorization and good handwriting will be your best friends.

>save wikipedia database dump
>show it to John von Neumann, Einstein, Feynman, Tesla et al.
just imagine what the world would have been

They would likely wonder why much of the information is wrong and politicized.

I show the "Adolf Hitler: Shooting Stars" video to the furher and tell him everything's going well and that he wins the big game in the end

Gets gassed for no warranty papers

The real problem is they would only have 24 hrs to reverse engineer it because the battery would be ded with no way to charge

Heh.

they actually had electricity back in the 40's

shhh the kids here don't even know they had pictures and cars. their heads explode if you tell them people left their doors unlocked and crime wasn't as big of an issue in most of the country. candy bars full size were much bigger and you could have a savings account that earned interest. they can only handle so much with their weak constitution.

I still get 1% interest on my savings and a blended 1% on my checking.

>1%

I get something like 4% on some shitty random account.

Is it a regular savings account though?
Didn't think any credit unions actually gave those rates anymore.

That's literally nothing.
Year over year average inflation in Canada has been 1.6%, similar in other G7 nations.
You are loosing money at 1% interest.

I have as much money as I can all shoved into various funds making anywhere from 3 to 12% YoY, just so I have a hope in hell for retirement.

They don't at least in my two states where I have multiple banks. Money markets haven't been viable since the 90's.

Shit nvm its 6% the checking is 1%.

lol I was reading about the rate and I'm grandfathered into some money market rate because I opened the account in 1997.

I'll be drawing from a pension when I retire if its still there lol.....

My 401k is fucking pathetic.

It will run out of charge after a day and then you will be stuck with a brick.

Hopefully you don't live in Illinois.

It wouldn't matter really.

You would be putting ideas into peoples' heads about component design that wouldn't have occurred until decades later.

Even though it would take decades more for manufacturing technology to reach the point where they could finally replicate the iPhone it would still be a decade or two ahead of where we are now.

Think about where we were 20 years ago. I think Pentium was out around then.

It's obvious that if you don't have an iPhone you don't use iTunes.

They would be able to copy the design pretty fast, they just wouldn't be able to make it small.

You would be gassed for being a homosexual.

This, it's still required to gain full access to your iPhone. I feel so relieved that I sold my iPhone 6 and got a samsung note 4 desu.

I'd tell them I smuggled this from the Nazis. The others would shit their pants on how advanced they are.

I ask myself that pretty often really, usually thinking about notebooks and cameras tho

Thank fuck for our TFSA's, praise be Harper that crony ol'bastard, he did one thing right at least.
