Currently just using one for emulating. But interested in other ideas.

I host a domain on my raspberry pi:
-website
-email service
-relays on tor (email & website)
-ownCloud
I control everything, no more need of 3rd party email provider or hosting, full disk encryption and anonymity over TOR and I can access my files everywhere with ownCloud
im working using Raspberry pi, because this pice of shit is so slow, i can't really do anything onther but work.
and i like how this little shit makes 0 noise, i can work in silence
I've got a couple mounted in 1u rack mount cases modded from broken cobalt/sun servers, front panel LCD, buttons and leds all functional via gpio - a cluster of 9 pi2s with a 5" display and very cute nekopara interface, all for shits and giggles. Currently I'm making a motion sensitive camera for taking wildlife pictures at a place I do conservation work.
nothing massively cool, but I've had fun
>raspberry
orange pi master race
>raspberry
Stop shilling them.
Screenfetch
thats kinda cool desu, old rack servers and leds and a display modded to work with rpi, nice
running one as a seedbox and media server, no real issues so far
i'm looking for a SBPC for torrenting. at first my choice was odroid xu4 but it's expensive so i'd like to ask you for something good and cheap. which one would you recommend?
>Anyone discussing anything I don't like is a shill a bloo bloo bloo
Orange Pi Zero.
Cheap and it does its job.
However they tend to get really hot, so id attach it a heatsink if i were you.
Do you want Gigabit Ethernet?
>Orange Pi PC 2
If not, Orange Pi Zero.
What's the best *Pi for a homeserver? The more services the better. The faster the better.
I got a pi zero w that I wanted to use a downloader but that piece of shit can't even power a USB hub. It's really only good for low level IoS garbage, and for that you can buy chinkchips for a dollar instead of shelling out 15 times as much for a pi.
check the orangepi official site on aliexpress and sort by price/features you need/whatever
they run debian so if you know linux basics it'll be easy to handle
>chinkexpress
why?
isnt the banana more powerful? what's the tradeoff?
because you're buying a chink board directly from the original manufacturer
no problem. have plenty of these
gigabit and USB 3.0 would be great. but since 3.0 is barely anywhere, i need at least a gigabit speed to transfer my files around
>USB 3.0
Odroid XU4 has 2 of these and Gb Ethernet. But it's around 50$ not counting peripherals and imho it's not as good as C2.
Try the OPi PC2 for GbEthernet then i guess.
There's an Odroid with usb 3.0 and an OPi with a sata2 port but both cost around $60.
also the banana pi has a sata port too but no idea about that one
Orange pi does 4k30fps 265 hw decode will it do 1080p60fps?
Used mine to unlock a couple of laptop UEFI/BIOS passwords. Before that it was a media streaming box with OpenELEC.
Thinking of using it for interacting with a deaddrop, or maybe setting up a PirateBox somewhere. It's the first generation model B with a measly 256 MB of RAM, so that also limits things somewhat.
Would love to have a more powerful x86 SBC, but those tend to be on the more expensive side, and I've already got a NUC which pretty much fills that niche.
Hey guys so I am wanting to use small board rpi/opi and have a minecraft server on it, only I will be using it with future of someone other people using it, 3 max. since people are recommending orange pi for the gigabit ethernet (which I am waiting for cat 7 cable to get routed to my room since we have gigabit internet) how does the orange pi pc2 perform against raspberry pi 3?
If you plan to do ANYTHING even remotely involving a GUI stay the fuck away from the zero, it's so underpowered that it can't even open a website that isn't plain text and some images without taking ten minutes.
if not USB 3.0 then at leeast gigabit ethernet. i don't want to wait ages for things to move
I think it's a fad.
Is a phone charger ok for an opi zero? I don't want to cheap out and get some housefire
I just use mine to flash Coreboot/Libreboot for customers
Please share resources that would teach me that
Depends on the phone, but usually a tablet charger would be better (higher amperage)
Most xiaomi phones provide a 2A charger, which is suitable for the Zero as long as you don't attach a fuckton of peripherals to it.
Yes, I'm running mine off a 2A phone charger.
It is powering up the 2TB HDD connected via USB as well.
Odroid XU4 has USB 3.0 ports.
BananaPi R2 has USB 3.0 ports. But it's more server/networking oriented.
So pick between Odroid and BananaPi. They both have a Gigabit Ethernet (BPI has 5 ports).
For other boards with gigabit Ethernet look at this pic . It's a bit outdated so there are boards missing.
Thanks.
have one setup as a small server for some git shit, which i still newish in, and to ssh into from outside the network.
it's nice enough, have a spare computer to use a server, but don't like to keep it on since it is overkill for what i need.
I turned mine on, clicked around Raspian for about 20 minutes and didn't know what to do with it so I unplugged it and put it in the closet
btw: i have a computer with a USB HUB and lots of HDDs connected to it (all 3.0 of course)
normally i'm thinking of sacrificing one or two HDDs for the SBPC and transfer all the data it downloads to the main computer through LAN (hence gigabit and USB 3.0 would be very welcome) but maybe there's a better way to connect both computers and maintain high speeds?
Is NOOBS 2.4.1 fucked? I tried to reinstall Raspbian and it always hangs at 21 MB. Fucking Linux shit!
>raspberry is shit
>fucking linux man
also
>using shitty raspis
cuck
While SBCs with USB3.0 are rare, an alternative could be a SATA port but they cost about the same as the boards with usb3.0.
The cheapest alternative with gigabit Ethernet would be , but you will be held back by the usb 2.0. Pick your poison.
why oh why nobody made a proper 2.1? would be a lot more bearable than 2.0
and of course gigabit ethernet and 3.0 work perfectly with each other in terms of transfer speed but barely any SBPC has it together
should i just wait until they become cheap/USB 3.0 becomes more standard or squeeze out more munny and buy what's available now?
>hooked it up to a long-range wifi antenna
>poorfag rural internet access
What adapter/style of antenna are you using?
Just recheck your needs and see if it's worth it or not. I use my OPi Zero that doesn't even have gigabit ethernet on a daily basis and that's fine for me.
Then again my upload speed is only 40Mbps and i rarely transfer big files between my LAN.
well, transfering a 3digit GiBs of data through USB 2.0 and 100mb/s LAN will be a real pain in the ass
Parabolic. Buy a TL-ANT2424b, an N-to-RPSMA cable, some mounting solution, and a USB wifi adapter with removable antenna. Install DietPi and NetworkManager then hook up eth to some router's WAN port.
I get 10Mb down/2Mb up when connecting to a restaurant across the lake.
Once I stalled rTorrent + ruTorrent... everything was slow when downloading but it was going on ~12Mb/s so I guess all the computational power was being exploited
Nice, thanks for the info.
>tfw no comfy rural retreat by a lake
I have a Raspberry Pi 3 acting as a home server. It's stuck in a little thing under my desk and it has a cute little fan and everything. It runs Debian ARM.
I used to use mine as a desktop, but then I started using an old ThinkPad for that instead.
digitalocean has nice tutorials
>OPi
try toasters instead, they have much better software support
>support
They run Debian, nobody gives a shit about "support"
superkek
orangepis are shit for the birds, proud owner of an opiPC here.
get a fucking rpi 3
they do sell them on ebay now
>rpi 3
but user...will it blend?
>4k30fps
fuck that orange pi dont do 4k.
Theoradically, sure. but in reality fuckno.
>Debian
armbian.
>aint no one giveashit bout sport
faggot that just means youre going to run shouldwork.sh and it wont and there wont be a single person to tell you why.
are you implying that i am shilling raspberrypis?
i am recommanding this noob the least headache-inducing best priced dev board with the best software support.
>le rpi lobbying 2 strong everyting is be shilled if iz be shilled it no gud and chinese shit be just as gud in fact better.
fine, retard, get some bananapi instead.
wow...calm the fuck down, buh
shit, man...

Do any sbc support 10bit anime? I wrote a script to auto transcode to 8bit but I'd rather upgrade to something that didn't require me to do it.

here is a nice tutorial

Use it to run Window95
But you still pay for domain.
RPi zero as super ultra portable desktop.
I use my phone for input, power supply is from any phone charger, just need a monitor.
used to be my svn server until i find the speed unbearable
I stuck two up my ass.
Hello guys, I don't own a raspberry pi. I have a old ultrabook with 2gb ram and a 1.3ghz processor.
No ethernet heads up, can I run a server on this with wifi? Thanks for help.
You're welcome.
Like, fuck. my english is garbage, but I do need help
What kind of servers and for what?
A personal website server, to host my files accessible anywhere. Mostly only 10-15 people will use the site
Speed would be low like 300 KB/Sec max.
Home automation.
Could you show the Nekopara interface? Kind of interested in it.
I don't pay my own electric bill now- and by virtue of this my landlord breathes down my neck about power usage. So my storage array has been installed in my desktop and my server has been decommissioned and replaced with a Pi, it now mostly serves as a way to keep my irc client online when my feeling desktop goes into standby. It's a sad state of affairs
I have a good internet to host, it's just the laptop is old so I wanna like use it for something instead of throwing it away.
Also if I can actually perfectly host using linux(as it doesn't eat much of system performance unlike windows) I can consider upgrading the ram and any other options available.
...
It's the laptop hardware limitation that's bottlenecking it.
Specifically the WiFi adapter.
>upgrading RAM
For what?
What do you think RAM do?
Holy shit, that's cool
it was one of those cheap little 3.5" touch screens you can get for the pis - replaced it with a 5" but not got round to redoing the software

thats all the code and images - used pygame to handing the display and touchscreen interface

- Deluge for torrenting overnight so I can turn off my main system
