>marginal increase for 3x the price of the already upscaled price of a sata3 ssd

no!

meh ive had a 950pro for a while now.

The increase in performance is hard to notice between this and a Sata SSD.

I was just better off buying one larger SSD instead.

thats cute

I hope you're using as a scratch disk for some Rendering or digital animation at ludicrous resolutions, otherwise it's just a waste.

>Muh boot 0.5 seconds faster

No, I got the same one. I wish there were affordable 2 TB drives.
>Using HDD storage in main PC
I would recommend outsourcing to a NAS / Homeserver. All the noise is gone.

>TLC trash drive
woah nice score bro

My NAS has 10TB on it. Gotta store them games and porns bruh

>EVO

cuck tier

TLC isn't as bad as it was anymore, the 960 EVO has 375 TBW. I barely reached 20 TBW on my old 256 GB 850 PRO after 3 years.
I don't store personal files on my PC anymore, 90 % of my 6 TB data are videos. Files that don't need fast access will be stored on the network drives. Programs, games and files I work with are on SSD.
>TFW you got this monster rig but are on a 2MBit connection
>justgermanthings

>marginal.
It's not even marginal. It's literally NO boost for the things 99% of users will use it for.
Good Lord, this is the definition of meme technology.

...

Why not just get the 1TB, what's the point

I have 1.2tb of SSD space for less cost than that.

And guess what? My operating system still boots within a second difference of yours. And guess what else? My programs still load just as fast. And guess what else? Loading games faster doesn't mean anything when you're still stuck waiting for other players to join.

Have fun though. Definitely bragging rights I guess.

I do database development. What now bitch?

Its not just about loading gamez and quick booting an os, doing data analysis or other I/o intensive tasks are so much faster on m.2 and pcie

>Database development
>Development
Even if you did do work on databases large enough for NVMe to matter, not only does it still not matter because your database isn't stored on the NVMe drive but you're also limited by internet speed.

Literally running SQL queries off a 350$ drive for the same performance of a regular SSD. Which barely offers more performance than an HDD because whatever program loads in just a second or two anyways.

enjoy your throttling

Only NVME drive I'd buy right now is a 32GB Optane drive for swap and persistent /var

>still not matter because your database isn't stored on the NVMe drive

Yes the development database is stored on the NVMe drive. Tests run much faster this way.

3000MB/s read speeds on a multi-gigabyte DB is much better than the measly SATA speeds. It makes a pretty big difference when you need to repeat these reads multiple times for tests.

dont fall for it

>TLC for a scratch drive

Did Samsung just shit this out because of the XG3 and RD400? Toshiba has been wrecking their shit in enterprise storage because of better performing ECC and no downthrottling on the controllers (protip: better glue a nice fat heatsink on the chip side or your performance might just melt away)

just point a 10cm fan at the pcb

I don't know how you would go about cooling the underside on a terabyte drive but 512G is the sweet spot for speed anyway

no because the speed is barely noticeable over a 960 EVO unless you are in specific professional workloads in which case you would have bought a 1-2TB one.

You bought a 500gb because you are poorfag who wants better loading times for vidyagames. The problem is that you are also stupid so you spend more money on an SSD that will not load those game any faster than a cheaper EVO drive would.

m8

Why would i be

I got a 500GB Crucial SSD delivered to me, only actually bought a 125GB one, Amazon messed up my order. Their loss.

unless you're capturing 4k footage natively on your PC, all that extra speed is wasted. You should have bought a SATA. Nvme is a value trap for most people.

>evo
>not pro
no

Games don't load faster though; nobody programmed their stuff to take high speed storage in mind so most programs bottleneck even with regular ssd sata, nevermind m2.

the 250gb 960 evo is cheaper and faster (where I live) than 4 satas in raid 0

I think the 250 is worth it

>programming
>with storage speed in mind
you do know what programming is, right?

having a 512 GB 960 pro, nope.

You realize programs need to actually save to and access your file storage... Right?

>Just came in the mail
tehehe

Not OP but I bought one because I already have nine SATA SSDs.

>something I have no use for is a meme

DEEZ

Yes, I'm so jelly, I need a 4th one as a second drive for my 3rd laptop.

>I would recommend outsourcing to a NAS / Homeserver. All the noise is gone.
Kek, don't know what shitty drives you used, I also use WD Blacks are storages drive in my workstation, everything that doesn't fit or doesn't have to go on the 500GB cache SSD or 200GB boot SSD.
The drive is inaudible and only turns on when accessed.

>samshit
>not toshiba

How the fuc do I get at the games on my HDD if they are NAS

Use a tape drive you fucking normie

>3GB 1080 Ti
why

Speccy bug

It won't load your games or OS quicker, so nope, not jealous at all.

You should be using a ram drive then. What's that? Your too poor for 128gb of dram?

>Samsung
No

>not buying the $200 1080 Ti version with less VRAM

Nah. I don't do any editing of XBOXHUEG files, so it doeesn't matter to me. I do have a m.2 SATA drive, because it's so nice how it fits on the motherboard under a PCIe card with no wires and was the same price as a 2.5" SSD, though. I was going to go NVMe but then I realized it's a waste of money unless you edit huge files.

What do you recommend ?

Intel 545 or skhynix 308

Yeah...no

>TLC trash

amazon.com/Toshiba-OCZ-RD400-Solid-RVD400-M22280-512G/dp/B01G3HLOYY/

Reason?

>toshitba
>not samsung

kek

It's not 2008 anymore

>TLC trash
>then recommends garbage OCZ

don't give a fuck

t. 950pro owner

Yes, yes Toshiba they just invented the whole product category of nand memory, then 3D nand and beat everyone to the punch with SATA express and NVMe and have better write endurance and thermals in real workloads.

>not using ramdisk for database "development"

>ramdisk

You realize the DB is fully loaded into RAM without needing a ramdisk, right user? You're not that retarded to manually create a ramdisk, are you user?

>nobody programmed their stuff to take high speed storage in mind so most programs bottleneck even with regular ssd sata, nevermind m2.

There are plenty of games that don't load faster on m.2

but they're all multiplayer peer to peer games so you aren't waiting on loading, you're wanting on the dumb ass in hueland on dialup.

It's much more than gaymes

>games

If you are too stupid to not know how to use ISCSI or NFS you really shouldn't be posting on this board.

That's not what I mean, I mean that putting my games drive remote would slow down loading times massively

Not really, as long as your not useing 10/100 ethernet and your NAS isn't running on IDE 80gb harddrives you are going to about the same loading times as you would from a mostly full mechanical drive. I know this because I most of my games run off a ISCSI drive that is connected to a windows VM.

Most modern games take advantage to fact that people have alot of ram and will "preload" assets into memory anyways.

Kool

Would you recommend those WD my cloud you can buy anywhere with the one slot? Actually I would need one that comes empty for the drive I already own

>500GB
>enough for development
Get a new job, kid.

>something literally every gaymer and poorgrammer doesn't need is a meme

Sorry I can't really say. I don't have any experience with something like that. I'm a poorfag so I tend to take the DIY approach.

>when you're still stuck waiting for other players to join.

who the fuck still plays multiplayer games?

I have a $300 Dell gift card. Is that compelling enough to pay $200 more for the nvme vs sata m2?

>He fell for the M.2 meme

KEK

I hate this board so much. Do your research and search for benchmarks, ask yourself why they're priced differently and if you really need such a product.

It's amazing for big Photoshop files (Opening, Saving)...and if you have 32GB+ RAM you're golden.

Currently have a 950Pro M.2 (older but still produces 2GB/sec) and 64GB RAM i7-6700k Hackintosh. It FLIES my niggas.

Uh the samsung is literally the fastest consumer NVME SSD.

That WD board M.2. is retarded and you're better off getting a SATA SSD.

The database is not in the hundreds of GB. What makes you think this is not enough?
What makes you think I don't have additional storage for other shits?
