What does Sup Forums think of the Budgie desktop environment? I just tried it out and it's pretty fantastic, and I'm considering switching to it from XFCE on most of my stuff. It has a lot of features, a beautiful and consistent design, and it's blazing fast on a laptop from 2006. I highly recommend trying it.
It's just a slightly tweaked version of Gnome, though. In fact, I used it for a week and just switched back to Gnome, because Budgie manages to waste even more space than Gnome does.
Andrew Allen
It's faster and uses less resources than Gnome, which stutters and lags like crazy on this laptop. It's worse than KDE at this point.
Anthony Gomez
Zorin works great for me and it uses a modified version of Gnome 3. Nobody else seems to talk about it though

John Foster
it looks good. I have used Cinnamon, MATE, Gnome, KDE and Xfce and they are all fine. i could understand Sup Forums's butthurt about peoples de's and distros if any of this shit cost money
Jack Perez
i hope Ubuntu's new gnome release has defaults in the ballpark of that desktop.
Ayden Myers
Me too, I guess Canonical is too focused on making it look like trash and performing like it too. Unity is a failed abortion and I'm happy to see it go.

STOP
Fucking, stop.
This is a perfect example of why the GNU/Linux desktop is a fucking joke. Linux does not need yet another desktop environment. Contribute to the existing ones and make them better if that's your fancy.
>Starting with version 11, Budgie will be rewritten in Qt.
Of course it will. Because of course they built their own bikeshed, but the color is wrong. Again.
Those who do not learn from mistakes of the past will be doomed to repeat them.
Connor Powell
>winbaby hates choices Cute.
Dominic Robinson
>Contribute to the existing ones and make them better implying i have time to or know how to develop software.
Jaxon Ward
Hey, you're just screwing yourselves. No skin off my back.
Cooper Miller
In what way? None of the major DEs except for Gnome and KDE have anything that's significantly wrong with them. This strategy of letting everyone build their own thing is working quite well.

except for the whole "convincing people to write software for our OS that's not a programmer tool"
but okay, keep rearranging deck chairs on that titanic of yours.

>Random parts of the screen are piss coloured Wtf?
Aiden Phillips
How are we screwing ourselves by using what we want?
Nathan Bailey
I've been using it for 6 months and it's shit in its current state. Maybe when it moves off GNOME it will be good, because it does have potential.
As of right now the only good DE is KDE unless you're running a literal toaster poorfag box.
Dominic Lopez
If that's the color of your piss then I have some difficult news for you.
Connor Gray
looks cool, ill try it out on my tablet.
Camden Rogers
the only thing that stutters is the applications menu with dozens of icons flying out
also, nothing stutters on wayland, its butter smooth 60 fps ( with mouse lag )
kde is disgusting
Daniel Parker
I haven't noticed any stuttering on Cinnamon.
Juan Campbell
xfce is nicer, desu

Linux will always be shit on the desktop until they fix the atrocious font rendering. Just look at your screenshot ffs.
Josiah Nelson
> None of the major DEs except for Gnome and KDE have anything that's significantly wrong with them
They're all horrible compared to Windows and look absolutely pathetic compared to OS X.
Jace Parker
There is literally nothing wrong with KDE. It can't even be considered heavy at this point.
Blake Mitchell
It's gnome with shell extensions.
Zachary Cox
Looks like shit, has bad proportions.
Seriously, it looks amateur -- especially on my screen.
