Trying to get Kali Linux at least running in a Live USB mode on my Toshiba laptop, but running into some serious difficulty.

First let me ask a question that would help me pursue what I think might be a better alternative.

1. ) I already have Kali running in VirtualBox on that laptop in NAT Network mode. Will this work for using Armitage / nmap / other pentesting tools?

2.) If anyone has suggestions, I originally tried to set it up with a Bridged Adaptor (thats how the same VirtualBox machine running off the same Kali ISO worked/is working on my desktop), but the connection is stuck on "Wired Connecting" and I have no internet in the VM. I already went to Network Connections and bridged the host-only ethernet w/ my real network, so I'm not sure why it's not working.

3.) Going back to the Kali Linux USB, anyone familiar with Linux bootable USBs and/or Toshiba have any idea why I either get "Check cable connection! PXE-M0F Exiting Intel PXE ROM." error when trying to boot?

Boot Mode was set to CSM (tried it with just UEFI, boots right into Windows, even when booting from Rufus-burned USB), USB is showing up in the Boot Order, and I used MobaLiveCD to verify that every USB I tried was bootable.

At this point, I've tried using UNetBootin, Rufus, LiLi Live USB Creator, Universal USB Installer, and Win32DiskImager to burn the same Kali Linux ISO. Every attempt, I verified the USB was bootable, but it never got me any further.

Looking forward to getting some feedback, sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading!

Can anyone recommend a standalone RSS reader for Win10?

qbit torrent

I'm looking for a laptop to drawfag on
has to be 15", good display, and portable (battery life, dimensions)

What should I get?

senpai,

recomend a book on Fuzzy Logic

Can somebody tell me what's wrong with the size of my swap partition?
$ swapon --show
NAME TYPE SIZE USED PRIO
/dev/sdb2 partition 7.5G 0B -1

$ sudo fdisk -l | grep /dev/sdb2
/dev/sdb2 1050624 51380223 50329600 24G Linux swap

It's supposed to be 24GiB in size like fdisk shows. Why does it only use a fraction of that?

was the partition edited since creating the swap volume?

>24GiB swap
Why the fuck?
Also, try turning the swap off and then on again.

>13"
>pointless touch
>ASUS
never reply to me or my post ever again

wait till you see my swap iTS 128 GB bc I have 64g ram
what are you a ramlet or something

Oh, you're right. I ran mkswap again and now it uses the full partition. Thanks user.

I've got 16GiB RAM. The recommended amount of swap allowing for hibernation according to redhat is 1.5 times that...

>pointless touch
what did he mean by this

>qbit torrent
Thanks will have a look.

I posted a question in /rg/ router general about losing access to my recently flashed router

Unless you're hibernating, chances are you won't be swapping at all, given enough memory. Tell me, why do you need MORE swap if you have enough memory? Is it just because that manual told you to?

Why is it that when I emulate games using Wine in Manjaro the performance is worse than on Ubuntu for the same computer? Should I update the drivers or something?

I'm considering running the command from this guide:
wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/Configure_Graphics_Cards

yeah pretty muh desu senpai

games are optimized for Windows user

My guess is graphics / acceleration.
I'm not sure how manjaro handles optional dependencies, did you install them?

Best proxy server for Leenucs?

I'm not yet sure how much of that memory I'll be using, so I set it up like that just in case. I don't really miss the space anyway.

ssh -D 8888 -f -C -q -N user@server

On Windows I use f.lux and Alt PgDown to decrease brightness when it gets too much.

What can I do on Linux?

I couldn't get a redshift gui to work, when changing temperature on command line it glitched and got stuck.

Installed flux on linux and there's no decrease brightness functionality.

Swap is useful if:
1. You run out of memory.
In this case, you can avoid an OOM by swapping and killing performance really badly. At least until swap fills up as well.
2. You do a lot of disk io.
In this case you want the OS to swap even when you have free memory, so that actual RAM can be used for caching.
Both cases only make sence if you have very little RAM, and the more you have, the less need there is for swapping.

Only valid reason for having swap:
3. Hibernation. In this case you should have ~1.5 x your memory.

I use redshift, make sure to install X libraries, including xrandr (libxcb-randr0 on debian) among others.

If it is talking about PXE boot then it isn't trying to boot from usb. Sounds like wrong settings in bios, is secure boot still a thing on laptops?

i use gnome but i havent been given the f.lux built in feature from the newest update, i see that on arch it is already released. my software is up to date, what gives?

Just checked BIOS, Secure Boot is disabled :/

id like to map the screenshot program to the prntscrn button. but i can't figure out how, the command "screenshot" does not trigger it when set as a launcher, is there a secret program name i'm unaware of?

have you enabled it? if you can't, please reply with your manufacturer for specific instructions

>software
scrot

use
xev+xbindkeys
or
use your de/wm binding software if you have one and bind it to scrot

Is readyboost part of windows pro?

There are many different screenshot programs for Linux. The command depends on which one you have installed and want to use.
A simple and popular screenshot tool is 'scrot', so you could just install that and set it for your keybind.

No, I haven't enabled it - but should I try to?

Manufacturer is Toshiba, and the model is a Satellite P55T-A.

try and enable it, reply if it's greyed out

is there a method of determining program names?

I have never programmed before. Is it okay if I learn ruby on rails first?

when you fucking install them you remember the name...

I know theoretical speeds are bullshit, but still, this USB wireless dongle shouldn't be overheating at ~4MiB/S transfer rates, right?

linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=194731

its called screenshot, it takes fucking screenshots and it came preinstalled

Yes.
Useless unless you have 2GB RAM.

Its a fucking nano USB wifi adapter with no heatsink, it will overheat fast as fuck, more at 40-50Mbps.

If it's a graphical program, an easy way is to run 'ps x' and look for something that seems related, or you don't recognize.

I have 1.9GB RAM user

What kde distro should I install on my mom's computer. Thinking a fedora spin with kde so far

Buy more RAM? its cheap.

Will do, should I be booting in UEFI or CSM Mode?

I recently built a computer and the PSU seems to be making some sort of creaking sound when I turn it off and on, occasionally at random times as well. It's the sort of sound that an old floorboard would make when you step on it (not as severe, obviously) and not an electrical sounding one, could it just be the fan hitting something or some sort of screw that's on too tight?

I haven't taken it out and reseated it but I don't really want to unless it's something severe.

Can't fiddle with the internals of a fixed laptop sadly

What do I do to fix my MacBook Pro from heating up so much?
I think something might be broken because it didn't start doing this till just recently.

thanks a lot dude - very useful, genuinely

Enabled, it let me select it, so not grayed out. When I booted with the USB in, and Secure Boot enabled, I got a "It looks like Windows didn't load correctly" screen.

Under "Advanced Repair options" I can either continue to Windows 8.1, Use a device, Troubleshoot, or Turn off my PC.

Might be sleeve fan bearing

I have an old (and presumably not USB 3) hub/shitty cup warmer thing. If I plug it into a USB 3 port, will the hub become USB 3? Or is there some wiring difference that means this won't work as I hope?

Potato pic related

Adding more ram is literally removing a screw and lifting a cover in 90% of laptops bottoms.

kek
(pic related)

No. You might get better USB 2.0 speeds but it will be capped. The hub has to have some kind of circuitry in it that won't be to USB 3.0 spec.

who the fuck uses touch on a laptop
touch without pressure-sensitivity no less
do I really have to explain this shit

No.

Is there a program that operates like Greenshot so I can capture a portion of my screen in video or directly into a gif with ease?

ffmpeg

usb 3.0 uses the regular 4 wires (+5v, tx, rx, -0v) plus an extra 5 wires, it will not become usb 3.0 speed. might get the full usb2.0 speeds though.

I guess a stupid question deserves a stupid answer.

ffmpeg will do exactly what you are wanting to do.

I'll check it out, thanks.

I got a new hard drive with 500GB and has Wndows XP on it (not booting after the icon, through), but I have no idea over what am I going to do with it. I'm considering on using it for swap memory function.
Does anyone here have any suggestions over what should I do with my new hard drive?

porn

We're done here.

Hey guys, I bought a pair of D-Link AV500 Mini Powerline Adapters for convenience sake, (no giant ass ethernet cable running across my dining area) and the speeds are being very inconsistent. At best I can get 12-13mbps down with 4.5 up. Other times I can get as low as 2mpbs down and 0.09 up. What could be causing these fluctuations? Any way to stabilize this?

2 in 1 user

I do have porn stuff, but it's small in quantity currently and is bulding up slowly. Maybe I will use my hard drive for porn only in the future, but not now.
I'm still open for suggestions.

You fell for the eop meme.
It all depends on how well the copper in your house is done.
Your house is shit and you're getting shitty results.
You should have read in to it more before you wasted time and money on it.

My house was literally built 2 years ago

Dosent mean it was done properly,or with up to code materials.
Hell my 40 year old house is wired better then yours

Like the other guy said, it heavily depends on your wiring. In my last house I could barely get a signal if at all, but having moved I get full speeds anywhere in the house.
If you own the place just sink some money into running your shit through the walls.

Why you need to fill it now? Just let it fill slowly if you don't have anything else to fill it with.

If I have a 280x for a graphics card and an i5 4690 for a CPU, which one should I upgrade first?

>no use case
Update your question before anything else. What you have is fine for general shitposting on Sup Forums, not so much for shitposting in Sup Forums's "Rate muh speccy" threads.

For gaming then. Was basically asking which one is more outdated, zzz

Why is it that Ryzen prefers 2 sticks of memory as opposed to 4?
Also, why is it that most AM4 manufacturers can only seem to do 3200MHz at most?

AMD Memory controller problems, for both of your questions.

The 280x.

The I5-4690K is still good for gaming and will be for a long time.

Can someone write this in C/not pseudo code? I don't know what this is trying to say:
for j = i^2, i^2+i), i^2+(2i), i^2+(3i), ..., not exceeding n:

how do i add new repositories in portage?

Is there any way to see what programs are installed on a specific disk when you have multiple on windows?

int j = 0, k = 1

while (i < n) {
j = (i*i) + (i*k++);
}
I'm dumb so I don't know if this is right at all.

Works like a charm. Thanks.

C or C++ code examples of binary file readers/writers (for any specified format like bmp, zip...)?

How to make an entire disk image in Windows 10?
I'm looking for equivalent to dd if=/dev/sda NOT dd if=/dev/sda1

Trusty dd for windows build doesn't work in 10 for some reason.

Oh yeah, device in question is fucked up (no partition table), that's the reason for imaging, backup before recovery attempts.

clonezilla

Thanks!

1. For capturing packets it will work fine. It will only capture evreything in the VM of course.

2. Try setting it to Paravirtualized in the advanced settings with Allow all set as promiscuous mode.

3. Could you be using a 64bit or arm image on a 32bit or x86 processor?

What Linux runs OSRS the best?

Don't use usb gimmicks with cheap heater circuits, you're just begging for your usb ports to be fried.

Friend sold me a reference GTX 980 for a great price, and also included an EK water block.

I don't have a water cooling setup, but I want an aftermarket cooling solution because the reference cooler isn't cutting it for me.

How much will it cost me to build a gpu cooling loop vs just buying something like pic related (anything on the page)?

Buy a HDD enclosure for it and enjoy taking a drive full of pirated games/movies over to your buddies place.

test booting from the flash drive on a different pc/laptop. you could also test it with qemu or similar.
in linux if i want to test that a flash drive is bootable, i'd mount it at /mnt/usb then run
qemu-system-x86_64 -hda /mnt/usb
you could also test writing a debian iso to a flash drive and see if you can boot from that.

>I can't log in through the browser,
fucking hell user, are you even trying?
can you ping 192.168.1.2?
if you nmap it, do you see port 80 open?

if you're running a debian/ubuntu-based distro then you can expect to be several versions behin. kde have an apt repo with their latest software in to specifically let you get around this. google it - there is probably an up-to-date gnome apt repo which you can use.

readyboost is a pointless meme unless you have a fast usb3 flash disk and literally no ram.

lost it

Hey everyone. I am trying to use Synergy to share my mouse and keyboard between my windows 10 machine and my powerbook g4 12 inch.
I've installed synergy 1.5.0 on my W10 machine and synergy 1.0b7 on my PB.
I keep getting an error that says "
>Warning: failed to connect to server: Connection refused.
I tried disabling windows firewall and running it as an administrator but it is not working. Any ideas?
