Whatever happen to portable TVs?

Whatever happen to portable TVs?
Last year I was interested in buying a portable TV to watch stuff from a USB but no major electronics brand makes them anymore, why?
I remember my grandad game my one similar to pic related in the mid 90's

you got to meme harder than that kid

Analog TV has been abandoned here. So it's useless anyhow.

You can broadcast stuff to it

They've been replaced by laptops, tablets, smartphones, and the internet in general. Are you really so stupid to look around and not notice how ubiquitous computer technology is?

Are you seriously watching TV?

someone just watched Techmoan.

just use your smartphone for tv watching

No one use them anymore.
Except the nips and koreans, they have it built into their phones anyway.

The time has come for my old casio...

...

Smartphones happened

I stole them all.

...

RCA still makes them.

the real question is "whatever happened to the airwaves" your sega game gear can't play tv anymore because the government stole the frequencies from the people and converted it to botnet digital signals

You can watch whatever digital file or stream on your phone or tablet, and regular broadcast TV with one of these dongles.

digital TV switchover happened

That is in most countries illegal.

...

Aww man I loved that little guy, still think its knocking around my dads house somewhere.

Either way no terrestrial TV isn't broadcast over the air anymore.

I recently bought one of these old portable televisions.
It's made by D&S but looks to be from the 80's with black and white still on it. Wondering if anyone has figured out a way to convert the external antenna input to digital.

If so then please post the necessary adapters and cables required for such a conversion.

because nobody watches TV anymore

A digital STB, wire its RF output to the TV's antenna traces.

Not if you're licensed to do it.

There's nothing preventing you from putting a digital tuner in a portable unit. It's hard to buy a phone that doesn't have one built in in Japan, and while the easy-to-decode 1seg spec was necessary in the mid-2000s now even potato phones can deal with decoding and scaling the 10mbit MPEG-2 of ATSC.

The problem is just that no one wants that shit enough to buy it.

You can broadcast your own shit via a vcr coax output and a signal booster to an antenna. Can broadcast on channel 3 or 4.

>This product is not available for purchase and has been discontinued.

seatch usb atsc tuner on amazon or aliexpress, there's a bunch of them
not huge amounts and mostly not micro usb because, as noted, no one in the us cares about broadcast tv

Oh boy it's that little niche shit who has to have some unique special snowflake device for attention. Go suck off the UMPC losers while you're at it.

What happened is smartphones. We have data connections and streaming services or youtube now. So you aren't even on the right frequency.

>I remember
fuck off

came to post this

>terrestrial TV isn't broadcast over the air anymore.
Are you stupid?

>What happened is smartphones.
And? There's no reason a smartphone can't have a built-in tv tuner except that carriers would rather have you pay them for data. Phones even have fm radio tuners that are disabled for this very reason.
>We have data connections
Which cost money, and even if you have "unlimited" data can still get throttled.

i had a 4" b/w crt portable tv that looked just like that, only it was grey
mostly played playstation games on it

it was a very resilient unit, one time during a camping trip it ended up mostly underwater, and it still worked after it dried out for a while

Still have this sitting in the closet.
Fuck you Obama.

Are you?
Analogue TV signal is literally no longer broadcast anymore

I've always wondered why the US doesn't seem to give a shit about broadcast TV. I always see it in cordcutter forums that people have no idea how to get the main 4 channels for NFL games or whatever. They've always just paid for it as part of a shitty cable service.

In my hellhole they recently cut off 100MHz from DTV and transfered it to mobile Internet use.
