why would i want to change the look & layout of Sup Forums?

You mean some of the most popular websites are designed for mouse and keyboard instead of sausage fingers?
Who'd a thunk it?

Because in some cases it's better to be functional instead of some art-project. Very pretty sites usually have in common that usability and speed takes the back-seat.

Wow, why am I not surprised?

>t. mactoddler

Content > design you fucking faggot

The fuck who thinks Wikipedia looks bad?

remove pajeets from tech

Function > form

Design is the scam of the century
I loathe reddit with a passion but it does in fact provide lot of content in a decent page layout, but then it fail horribly in the comments section

I manage a couple of sites myself, once I was asked to design a 4 redundant page portal to feature one (1) picture, a address and three telephone numbers

I like Sup Forums, CL, and Wiki's design though.

Reddit is fucking cancer tier though.

>Design is the scam of the century
Word. In all of tech.

Designer fashion phones.
Designer fashion laptops.
Both sacrifing practicality more and more

Source?

Also: it is my understanding that Sup Forums looks the way it does because it imitates a classic weab design of something like 2chan.

when is Sup Forums going to get with the times and include a hamburger menu button?

"Chickenshit minimalism: The illusion of simplicity backed by megabytes of cruft."

>i need to bloat up my webpage because muh modern design philosphies
>abhimanyu ghoshal

he's probably a frontend webshitter who thinks using the latest tech to use the latest tech is a smart thing to do.

thenextweb.com/dd/2017/06/29/why-are-some-of-the-ugliest-sites-on-the-web-also-the-most-popular/

they have a mobile version, so thats a start

Form follows function

all the other bullshits or cancer is not necessary

It actually has one on mobile, one for each post.

>doesn't mention twitter and google

functionality over looks any day family

Nice meme OP!

...

April Fools 2016 showed what Sup Forums would look like with material design. It was unironic in terms of design.

It looked like garbage, and everyone disliked it.

The UI here, and on HN, and on Wikipedia & Reddit are all perfect for what they do.

Mac excels in both content and design compared to Windows 10

To be fair, Reddit-style layouts ARE fucking terrible.

>abhimanyughoshal.com/
This website is so... clunky

Jesus Christ, how horrifying.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

what are you talking about, dont you see how sleek that hamburger menu makes it?

you wouldnt want all that empty px space taken up by just listing those links, would you?

motherfuckingwebsite.com/

With just a few lines of CSS this would actually really nice

oh wait...

>Google analytics

i guess the writer must have opened Sup Forums never gotten past to understanding replying wtf the numbers in the posts are

I agree, I can never find out how Reddit and Twitter work. It's confusing as fuck.

Triggered
Sites that need JS and css to even load are a pure cancer.

Because
efficiency > looks
Usability > frills
50KB > 5 MB

Here comes a candle to light you to bed

>30+ scripts
everytime

>50KB > 5 MB
50KB < 5MB

not every page on the web needs to be 200mb for displaying text. all the pages they reference have content as primary focus specialy Sup Forums.

>doesn't load without js

>abhimanyughoshal.com/

>65 requests
>takes 5 seconds to load complete

Sup Forums fits neither of these points, why exactly is it listed?

>Am I wrong?
>No, the most popular websites in the world are wrong.

This

Sup Forums and Wikipedia are just clean, usable etc. Reddit is an unusable monstrosity both on desktop and mobile. The mobile post form actually lets you post a comment 30 times if your connection is slow and you just press it really often.

lol

Holy shit tip top kek

>That footer button which does nothing except pull up a Twitter button taking up 30% of the screen

Yes and that is better
You can have a 9000Gbps internet connection but it still takes resources to render the webpages

>slow performance
Like pottery
His website is slow as fuck

Agree here though. I never used Twitter but if I go to someone's page it's a mix of their posts, and other people's reactions (but to which posts?) and their reactions to other posts I think. No wonder this company ever made a dime of profit.

Reddit is so bad the only way to use it is using a mobile 3rd party apo

Every website but reddit this pajeet mentioned a great design, socially Wikipedia. Reddit needs a change tho, watching porn on that shit is a nightmare.

i love this because it outlines the problem with modern web design by advocating for it.
stop bloating your fucking websites
just make it usable or convey the information it needs to
stop focusing on javascript memes and Sleek (tm) design choices
seriously the amount of mainstream websites i see that are bloated to all hell with Cool (tm) Sleek (tm) and Modern (tm) Design (tm) Choices (tm) that don't even have proper tls support (either none at all or sha-1) is insane

Really makes you think

>go to sign up to a tech job website to get notified of jobs in my area
>mfw they don't even use HTTPS for registration or login (or anything)

MODERN DESGIN PHILOSOPHY

> 20 years old japanese imageboard design is outdated

No way

I dont get it, these "webdevs" dont actually sit down and write all that HTML do they? How do they actually make the webpages? Does a software do it for them?

didn't look terrible enough to me so I made it even uglier

They're not terrible, but rather great and informative. The true 'terrible' uis are like facebook or instagram.
Also i wonder how a pretty featureful site like wikipedia is on that list.
IMO perfect UI is cat-v.org/

I don't get what people have against text on a page. Javascript is an abomination

Pottery

A moment of silence for the victims of modern design.

>use noscript, firecookie and ublock
>no ads, no sudde newsletter popups, nothing moves
>don't use any site when it doesn't load
>no google analytics, tracking
>added a couple script exceptions for my banking and work websites

Web devs can go suck a bag of dicks. If they want people to read their websites they can take the time to make a website instead of just plugging content into some 5mb framework.

...

you use a templating system

obviously they aren't going to be writing that shit every page lmao

To be honest goggles news ran seamlessly with the search results, then they changed it and fucked it up

Anytime i see these I think what they actually mean to say is "we spend all this money on our website but get no clicks why??"

>facebook
>windows
>ms mail
>abp instead of ublock origin
>hasn't disabled the ff botnets like pocket
You need to leave.

Those are the best looking popular sites on the web right now

Google search is also down the shitter. Is there even a decent search engine left?

>noscript
Why not uMatrix?

>ublock
I hope you mean uBlock Origin

What script is that?

WHY THE FUCK DOES IT USE FLASH

Simplicity is more appealing that complexity

>uMatrix
ew

lmao

Don't worry, in a few years they'll update the main site too :^)

I unironically think that Sup Forums has better ux that 99% of internet forums, comment systems, etc.

on that, why teh fuck cant the tomorrow themes be used on mobile?

thats because you think functionality is more important than form. as most of us do, i think.

what car do you drive?

not him, but i drive a prius

Without inline quote links (which are disabled by default) the UX is kinda shitty desu.

shitbox sedan with peeling paint and vacuum leak:^)

Not him but I drive a cdr.

inline quotes are shitty desu

Yes, they would use a nice UI like this

Reddit is not functional in the slightest

Its just a spider web of confusion

Without inline quotes you're jumping all over a thread when following a specific conversation. With them you can easily follow a conversation and then collapse them or just let them be to get back to where you were in the thread.

The website was designed and hosted in WordPress. Not even surprised.

Third-part Plebbit apps are usually pretty good and are the preferred browsing experience, Relay for example, but their desktop website and first party app are steaming garbage

I swear this gets worse every time they update it.

Mouseover reply links is the superior solution desu.

Whats with this modern need for huge images that take up too much space, or even that ui design not everything needs to be simplistic.

I don't drive, I live in a city with lots of public transport

Even without inline quotes, it's better than most other chans which have no js at all.

That doesn't let you follow a conversation over more than one post and it is enabled even with inline quotes anyway.

See, you each picked the best option for your needs. If you were looking for form over function, you'd have gone for one of the most sold in the country and none of you did. Except maybe you with the prius, although i dont know you, it might have been genuinely the best option price/features/function.

wait, I use clover wich I have to download from a unofficial repository, is there an oficial one?

Here is a beautiful website that is also functional amistech.com/msc/
