>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?

CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU
>R5 1500x - Decent but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - only for 144hz
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with exceptionally good stock coolers. (with the exception of the 1600X) consider using them over any sub 35USD cooler.

why r5 not i3 i5 i7?

Ryzen offers considerably better price vs performance - especially given you don't need x370 to overclock.

i3 is overpriced, the Hyperthreaded Pentiums are essentially the exact same thing except they are slightly lower clocked (providing the same performance for much less)
i5 are meh at AAA gaming compared to an R5 1500x or 1600, as the fact that they have only 4 threads cripple them in any CPU-intensive games. They also offer much worse multi-threaded performance (multitasking, some productivity stuff, streaming / recording through CPU), and are all locked (with the exception of the 7600k)
i7 (7700k) is good but a waste of money if you don't have a high refresh rate screen & beefy GPU to go along. Other i7 (6+ cores ones) also are very, very overpriced compared to the R5 1600 & 1700 (which offer close / identical performance for much lower in multithreaded tasks). Skylake-X is pricey as fuck too mainly because of the motherboard.
So it makes sense in some cases, but not always.

I'm planning on building a new pc around late september and this is what I've got so far
de.pcpartpicker.com/list/zbRWsJ

Would it be wise to buy a cheap second hand gpu and see what vega brings/wait for the mining fad to cool down?

Also how long would it take for RAM prices to go back to normal (or at least considerably lower than now)? Is it a good idea to buy one 8gb memory card and buy the second one later?

Not sure about Vega, early benchmarks are slightly disappointing (pricking yet to be determined) but more than 400€ for a 1070 is robbing you imo. If you don't plan on OC you can drop the extra cooler btw.

That one is the only 400 one i can find. All the other ones are overpriced/out of stock.

And even this one is out of stock as well.
Wait for mining to die down I guess? I mean I have until the end of september.

RAM prices have been fucked for a long time, it doesn't seem it will end anytime soon.
You can always check for sales every now and then.

>7700k

wut?

Anyone got any recommendations for building a nas?

depends on budget and purpose, how many users connecting, how many drives, wants ssd cache...
and country where buying...

Anything I should change or is this fine?
pcpartpicker.com/list/kZVpvV

Might as well get a 500gb ssd with your budget.

the cpu for start, at least from seeing the GPU
why not upping the ssd to 960 nvme in to m.2 slot? its so clean, 850 has m.2 too, but uses old AHCI protocol, not that much different but it does not seem like you cant afford extra $20
you will need to order am4 mounting for H7, its free, its fine, but just so you know... at least I had for my ryzen build, they wanted photos as proof ;)
I would go for microATX build, large cases are so unnecessary meh
I like seasonic over evga, they are rebrand brand, while seasonic is seasonic

>recommending intel
>ever
OP hebrew confirmed

Is 45c idle normal on a 1600x with a Corsair H60?

tell us also the load one

offset, its prob 25c in reality all X cpus have a 20c offset

So I should go for at least an 1800? And yeah for price I could afford since I'm mostly likely buying my friends 1080 for half the actual price of 1080 (around 200$) so I could afford a bit more.

...

I meant intel if its for games, as gpu hints
1700x is amazing, I have 1700
but I am linuxfag who runs virtual machines
if I would be still gaming fag who wants best fps in skyrim and and battlefield, I would not bother with amd if huge budget
but if you do other things too then I guess its fine

What is the difference between a heatsink and a cpu cooler?

What do you think a cpu cooler is?

like between bird and duck

heatsink is any metal that is designed to accept and transfer heat
cpu cooler is specific heatsink for cpu

in the pic is mosfet heatsink

Okay, so everybody here cums over Ryzen, but what about all those problems with memory, mobo compatiblity or something something? Is this all fixed now?

Ah. Recommendations for an Intel cpu? This'll most likely be my first build and also I only have the 1080 there since I'll be getting one for quite cheap off my friend

no, its not all fixed
but its usable and will get there
bios updates are out every month

>Recommendations for an Intel cpu?
yes if gaming is main focus

>This'll most likely be my first build
most likely? it is first or not first.. why doubt
and intel has some leg up there as first builds..
its really more reliable since they did not change for fucking 5 years... so much less potential for issues

Alright. Well thank you for the help.

I'm in a pickle. I need a new monitor, would like 144hz for gaymes. Originally I wanted the benq but the asus is cheap as fuck (even though it is still uglier).

ASUS VG248QE - $192.10
BenQ XL2411 - $289.00

Or drop 144hz and get a matching monitor.

Acer H226HQLbid - $89.99

On a related note, what's up with the price of screens.
This shit is not advanced technology, it doesn't take a state of the art 10nm factory 2 month to produce a single die, why the hell does it cost several hundred bucks for something so basic?

A decent screen should cost $30, a good one $90, no more.

the current best go to screen with high refresh rate and NON TN panel is Samsung CFG70
but its nearing $300 like that Benq

and monitors are expensive as they are large panels
what I am surprised is that in 2017 we have screens that are utter shit with terrible brightness and contrast... but thats usually issue in notebooks. but so apparent..

Why do 3.5" drives still get used these days? Don't 2.5" drives do everything now? What do people need other than SATA?

Yall know when will amd and nvidia start pumping out mid-range chips again? I sold my 290 recently and I don't want to overpay for a 1060

Eh not really into the curved screen.

I have one of ASUS's 144hz monitors, it's nice and does it's job. I've never had a problem with it although ASUS monitors seem to have iffy QC. Could be good, could be bad

I am not either, but would take it over TN panel, check reviews and youtube videos of it...

Q1 or Q2 of 2018. Enjoy having no GPU. :^)

will there ever be ryzen amd motherboard with on board GPU?

I would very much want it.
>inb4 APUs

How are the colors? Also is the 3D thing part of the stand or just a sticker?
I'll check it out. Right now I have an IPS panel, and am replacing an old TN monitor that died. Is IPS vs TN really a big difference?

Very unlikely, I haven't seen mobos with gpus since early AM3+

DELID DIS SIR

Memory plays any role when you have 1070 or higher. Forcing the memory meme was a way for amdrones to mitigate bad gaming perfomance right after the launch.

Hey fellas, I've read the sticky and appreciate the work that went into it, but I really am out of my depth when it comes to this stuff.
My budget to build a pc is 800 shekels. Will i finally be able to run modern games?
My laptop struggles trying to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at anything over minimum settings. (sitting pretty at around 20fps)

The 3D thing is printed on the stand. Colors are fine for a TN panel.

Colors are fine for a TN panel, nice and vibrant. And you can always adjust it to your liking. As for the 3D thing, I'm not sure. Like I did, I have a different model (MG248Q) but it probably means that it's compatible with Nvidia s 3D thing.
Is a 1080 sufficient for 1440p/144hz? Or should I go for a 1080 ti? Seems like the only going prices that are untouched by miners are the high end cards and the difference between them are less than 150 now

>Will i finally be able to run modern games?
Run, yes. At good settings? No. All midrange cards are gone so you're stuck with the choices of 1050Ti or 1080(Ti).
Either you wait or buy a good system with a temporary used or cheapo GPU and replace it later.

Never understood these graphs, AMD Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics so of course the power consumption will be lower.

It is almost like AMD is paying people to overlook the obvious.

970 starting to show its age
do i get a 1080?

Gone? Like a limited run of them sold out or what?

The parts for this aren't around anymore?

pcpartpicker.com/guide/wMgXsY/modest-gaming-build

I'll probably go with the asus monitor then. The only reason I liked the benq better was because of looks, but the price is so low I can't pass it up.

I doubt the 970 is really showing its age anymore than when it was released. It is also not a good time to buy any GPUs as even the prices of 1080s and 1080tis have been shaken up by miners snatching up all the lower end cards.

Miners. Don't ask and don't expect available and affordable midrange cards anytime soon.
>pcpartpicker.com/guide/wMgXsY/modest-gaming-build
Mobo is shit and no SSD is stupid if you ask me but the rest looks fine. With minor modifications you can use this as base template for approx 800 budget build.
Do you want mATX or standard ATX? The later usually offers more features but mATX is usually cheaper and uses less space, obviously.

mATX
I'm just trying to get into this decade as far as gaming goes

hey pals! What are some monitor brands to avoid and what brand would you say is the best. thanks

What the fuck I'm pretty sure I've see sombre mobos with gpu.

Best: Asus, Samsung, Benq, AOC.
Avoid: Acer, LG, Dell

>Never understood these graphs

That is because you are retarded.

> AMD Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics so of course the power consumption will be lower.

R7 also has TWICE THE CORES and even ignoring that in the workloads presented in those charts the igpu on the 7700k will be idling meaning it won't be a significant factor in power draw.

nigger stop being a fucking jewfaggot

Dell for example has shitty TN panels for $70 but also $250 starting ultrasharp

and it goes for most, well except Eizo maybe, they only god expensive and good...

800 will do that. Here's a solid example build with an ok GPU, 1060 etc for >300 are not worth it: pcpartpicker.com/list/YrvMHN

Savings me the rubles! thanks!

Dont' get a 1070 with a 1080p 60Hz monitor. Either get a 1440p, high refresh rate monitor or drop to 6GB 1060/580

Good if you have a nice monitor

800 is plenty. Don't listen to these retards
pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/

Anyone know if this keyboard is a good deal or not?

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00VJNUPW0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2DLQTV7PP0NTY&psc=1

My i3 6100 stock fan is driving me crazy I can't handle it anymore. what cheap and silent air cooler will fit on this shitty case?

cool thanks, never heard of aoc

hm not sure what you're saying..

>thanks for not telling me the case model

>brown switches

Need a quiet keyboard and apparently they are the best, what would you recommend?

Does Nvidia really gimp there older cards with driver updates?

>hm not sure what you're saying..
that its retarded to ask for good and bad brand.
Brands have models, lines and categories.
Faggot above said Dell is to be avoided

but dell has excelent Ultrasharp line
he said Asus is best lol, and you faggot will go and buy random asus for $70 and its pretty shitty panel, because he meant some high tier gaming asus gaming line...

asking for brands is retarded, you want specific models or model lines if the brand has them

guys, my rx580 and 1700X come in the mail Wednesday. I am so jacked. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a curved or ultrawide curved monitor?

No, they just lack updates to begin with.

I think a H7 will fit just fine
It has a 120mm exhaust fan right? Then most stuff will fit

Thoughts on this monitor

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UAMYTR8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1

It's a corsair spec 1 I'm surprised some don't know this case already.

Corsair Spec-01 Alpha (or similar).

Blue are the best for typing, red for gaming, brown are balanced which is why they are so popular. To reduce sound you can get those O-rings. Cherry also started to produce silent switches i think, maybe look into that.
If you live with people sensitive to noise do not get blue switches, they won't like it very much.

So if I use a 980ti it'll run games right now at the same performance in 5 years for example?

Anything to change here? pcpartpicker.com/list/ptjr8K

Looking for 1080p gaming maxed out. Planning on OCing CPU and GPU. Budget is ~$1100 USD but could budge a bit for good reason.

Yes, in old games. Who knows about future games though. Plus you have to factor in that that was a 4K card, so obviously over time its effectiveness for its intended purpose will quickly deteriorate as new more demanding games are released

Rule of thumb is don't update drivers unless there is a problem. You may notice the card getting slightly hotter over time, but that is really it.
The Hyper 212 evo will not fit that case if I am not mistaken. Zalman has some decent coolers that should fit.

Get an air cooler instead, even a noctua D15S is $20~ cheaper yet performs pretty much the same, and $50 - $60 air coolers are still great.

Not bothered by price of the H100 desu, and I like both the quietness and aesthetic of the AIO setup.

are 21:9 monitors a meme

No. Only get them for movies or gaming but they are great.

Vast majority of movies are 16:9 though. The odd exception is that recent western Tarantino movie e.g.

What? Almost all movies are in cinema format.

This is kind of PC building related. Do I want my h80i set up as an exhaust fan or an intake fan? It's currently intake right now, and my harddrives are getting warm. (55c or so)

Is exhaust a better setup?

Is an AOC G2460PF shit? I have a 1060 and it doesn't have g sync, but it seems dumb to spend more than $200 on a 1080p monitor. I plan to upgrade my gpu and get a 1440 in a year, so this is essentially a placeholder.

Cryorig M9i. Cheap and small factor.
Used to have it with 7700k and temp below 80c.

Is 5 years old ATX case with top mounted psu going to be fully compatible with modern ATX mobos?

anyone got the b350-f from asus?
looks like the best b350 board out, but it's fucking nowhere to be found

I have now bought everything for my build except a mouse, any recommendations for a cheap mouse?

Is there any issue with Gskill ram? Their 32Gb 3000+ kits are similarly priced as the 16 Gb kits from other brands. I get that they are ugly as fuck but are they good?

rx 580 when?

I rather upgrade my mb before buying that for such price desu.

>Plus you have to factor in that that was a 4K card

The 980 Ti was never a 4K card. Even the 1080 isn't a 4K card. The 1080 Ti is the first card that can achieve 4K/60 with a minimum of compromises on settings, though even then it's brought to its knees by some of the more demanding titles at 4K.

Should be. Make sure they are both standard atx.

>if you can't run a game at max settings at 60fps it can't do a resolution properly
Kill yourself.
