Highlights >7900x @4.5 ghz P95 reaching 500W >Some ppl arent reaching throttling because "intel bios settings" (Power draw) limits current to intel defaults, hence leading to cpu limited performance >Once current limit is removed, cpu can achieve expected gaming and benchmark results, however temps and power gone over the roof
Fucking 4.5Ghz 1.25 reaching 500W? Wtf we need those 1.5KW psus
>Considering the power consumption of an overclocked 7900X, the VRM issues shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. > >Hardware.fr recorded following VRIn powers on a 7900X, during Prime95 (28.10): > >4.0GHz = 158.0W >4.1GHz = 177.6W >4.3GHz = 212.4W >4.4GHz = 240.1W >4.5GHz = 265.2W >4.6GHz = 308.4W >4.7GHz = 362.8W > >At 4.3GHz even the most efficient VRMs will be dissipating < 32W of power and at 4.7GHz > 54W. >There is no way you can dissipate such amount of heat with the standard sized VRM heatsink, without a serious direct airflow to it. >Beyond 300W you don't want to use a single EPS12V connector either.

As Der8bauer stated, you get micro throttling that even cpuz cant record, you need like hwinfo to show throttling flags. Its incredible how much this arch is flawed. Performance isnt that much better than BW-E, and you have over the roof power vs BW-E, that was crap but at least was much better on thermals and consumption.
Intel deliberately raised the frequencies, removed solder and partner made shitty heatsinks, and the "solution" was to cap current on bios. What a joke

So you can't overclock it without catching for.
This supports my theory that Intel wants to stop all overclocking. They are using bad TIM and HIS tolerances on purpose to discourage overclocking. My guess is Intel wants to better separate their lineup this way. So people can't take an i5 and OC to i7 performance. Or their 2core CPUs.
Aiden Foster
SkylakeX is also much harder to de-lid I presume Intel did this on purpose as well.

Marketing for shekels vs. the actually engineered product. Hilariously, all of those mentioned features reflect throttling capabilities which are the antithesis of overclocking.
Internally, this is what is occurring at a lot of tech companies. They just don't tell enthusiasts because they bring in extra shekels. The automotive industry with through its 3rd party ricer stage some years ago. Eventually, manufacturers integrated aspects of prominent 3rd party groups, attached premiums, and engineered their products so that it was next to impossible to go mod crazy with them.
Every fanboy eventually learns their lesson from jumping onto new hardware platforms before they are proofed out. The tech industry began using consumers as beta testers some time ago. There's a million and one retards talking about L2 latency figures as if they have a PHD in comp arch., exotic $800 water-cooled setups, and a whole Eco-system of goofy ass youtube video celeberities to keep the hysteria going. Marketing groups see $$ signs and they go after the idiots asking them to take their monies.
What these figures show is the obvious physical limits of 14nm i.imgur.com/mMBmP2A.png TL;DR : Stop fucking overclocking high core count CPUs you dumb shits. 14nm limits clock rates. What extra kind of dumbass dam near doubles power consumption to get 700 more MHz out of a CPU? The most they're doing is playing vidya and watching porn. Do you see enterprise companies doing this who make billions of dollars off of compute resources? NO. HEDT cpus are enterprise grade processors. They aren't meant to be overclocked. It will already take enough to cool them if you actually start pushing the CPU. Moar cores = less clocks. It's time for enthusiasts to grow the fuck up just like the car ricers of the 90s. You can't rice away physics but you dam sure can burn down your house and double your power bill trying.
Kayden Harris

Clearly, enthusiasts capable of dropping $1,000s of dollars on exotically cooled overclocking rigs never heard of the physical limitations of 14nm chips. Clearly they also are incapable of understanding basics math w.r.t to asymptotic equations. Take the power figures and plot it on a graph and you see obvious asymptotic behavior towards 5Ghz.
Since consumers are this dumb and demand to be anal raped, companies tell their marketing groups to convince these overclocking idiots that the impossible is actually possible w/ some easy to read through bullet points on a (confidentially released internal slide deck) the mass of normies with $5,000 systems to play over watch actually buy it. Like mad men, they fucking buy it. Then bitch about mah vrms because physics rears its head and reminds them of the exponential relationship between power usage and clocks. These idiots are literally going to be soaking their setups in mineral oil to get 100Mhz out of their CPU and 0.0005 increase in FPS. This was a fucking meme in the 90s on hardocp. A meme ....
So, I don't see what's wrong here... Marketing groups from intel are cashing in on the e-celebs making millions of dollars from views promoting O/C culture to plebs. Equipping rigs with cooling solutions that exceed the price of the CPU to get 10% more output from the CPU.. muh FPS and shit.
Dweebs have actually become convinced that they can reach insane clock levels if only they drop $600 on custom piped radiators, magic-fluids, water pumps, and laser etched elbow joints. If only these idiots could be a fly on the wall at marketing meetings.
Not to mention what the electricity bill is for this dumb shit. Do you see people who drop six figures on compute rigs at data centers overclocking high end chips? No dumbasses. That's exactly what HEDT is.
These dumbasses are buying the equivalent of a lamborghini and taking it to a ghetto ass tuner shop to get +5 HP. E-celebs pimping these brainlets out for shekels.

It's fucking weird seeing these posts because HEDT historically consumed this much power. X58 consumes easily 250w on the quads and 350w on the hexacores. X78 and X99 chips consumes well over 300w once you overclock it. You can easily verify those numbers using a digital psu.
That's what Intel gets for merging mainstream and hedt I guess.
