Daily reminder that all ships of the Federation run on a 100% proprietary operating system...

Daily reminder that all ships of the Federation run on a 100% proprietary operating system, meaning Linux and open source won't exist in the future.

Neither will white people, but somehow they're still in Star Trek.

Post proof that it's proprietary or get the fuck out.

...

Yea, with amount of times it crashes, goes haywire, destroys things, and gets them into trouble, I can see they use windows, with osx on their smart devices. Its what makes the show interesting, they're computers are always fucking up.

Remember when the holodeck went haywire and all the holograms started attacking Picard and his crew?

>windows 10

Did the universal translator fuck up or what?

Nah I think he has that virus from that one DS9 episode.

Babel

This would only be the case if the Federation didn't write the software for the ships themselves and instead bought it from someone else without buying the rights, should they even exist, to modify and use for their ships. This doesn't make sense, so it probably didn't happen.
Sorry, I don't know what happened there.

Does it really matter when mankind has united as one, and silly shit like capitalism no longer exists?

I liked the first movie in the reboot. Into Darkness was still ok, but not as good. "My Bike Fantasy 3" kinda doomed the reboot.

Nice /blog/

I am not OP.

I am aware.

>I liked the first movie in the reboot.
you mean the star wars auditioning tape? and "my bike fantasy 3" was more TOS than any of the other movies.

I bet you liked TFA too

You Trek Wars fanboys are too touchy. Just because Darth Picard didn't make an appearance does not make it a bad movie!

I stopped watching SlowLasers after JarJar. There was no longer a point.

top fucking kek

>"my bike fantasy 3"
>TFA
h..hold on, bike3 = star trek beyond, or star wars revenge of the sith?

>Just because Darth Picard didn't make an appearance does not make it a bad movie!

nor a good one.

>There was no longer a point.

yet you liked the trek movie which was literally a SW auditioning tape of jarjar abrams. you just have shit taste mate

beyond, due to kirk going fast&furious

>make changes to the code
>ship has to reboot

Star Trek 09 and Into Darkness sucked ass but Beyond, directed by the fast and furious guy, was great. How the fuck did that happen?

fpbp

JewJew Abrams.

better writers. you can blame pegg for giving his role more screentime, but if it means a better script I can live with it.

Breddy gud

Do you have any proof that LCARS is proprietary?

...

It is already proprietary, why wouldn't it be in the future?

What proof do you have that it is proprietary?

>Federation ships run LCARS
Linux Can Also Run Starships

...

>captain i just rm *'d our warpcore drivers

The FSF holds the copyright on GNU projects, it's still open source. Besides no code for LCARS actually exists yet.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as The Programming Penguin, is in fact, Tux/Programming Penguin, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Tux plus Programming Penguin. Programming Penguin is not a mascot unto itself, but rather another original character of a fully functioning Tux system made useful by the Tux likeliness, wing utilities and vital penguin components comprising a full mascot as defined by Torvalds.

Many computer users see a modified version of the Tux character every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Tux which is widely used today is often called Programming Penguin, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically tTux, developed by the Tux Project.

There really is a Programming Penguin, and these people are viewing it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Programming Penguin is the nickname: the name in the system that allocates the viewer's attention to the character they view. The nickname is an essential part of a mascot, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete original character. Programming Penguin is normally used in combination with the Tux mascot: the whole system is basically Tux with Programming Penguin added, or Tux/Programming Penguin. All the so-called Programming Penguin characters are really OCs of Tux/Programming Penguin!

DUDE

jokes aside, there are no corporations in the Federation. They aren't capitalist anymore. They are not commie either, they found the sweet spot of human politics.

This. Due to the invention of replicators they live in a post-scarcity society without the need for the use of money. This allows them to follow a life path of doing what they want, whether that be joining starfleet, running a small restaurant or just hopping from planet to planet looking for cool shit.

The thing that cracks me up the most is nobody seems to know we could actually do this right fucking now (minus hopping planet to planet). Without even investing in food, housing, medicine, etc, tech (as in, with the purpose of making it non-profit) we ALREADY have enough food, housing, and medicine for every person in the U.S. Not talking about providing everyone with a state-of-the art HD TV or iPhone. Just talking about surviving comfortably.

Humanity's capacity for this level of fail will never cease to amaze me.

>niggers
>in space
I don't blame you for being wrong, your kind can't help it.

No one wants your kind here commie.

>They aren't capitalist anymore. They are not commie either

Nope, they're communist.
Soviet Russia, China, other Communist states, most of them called themselves *socialist*, with Communism as a "long term goal".

Because: Communism is the society that socialism enables. Marx believed that capitalism held back society's progress because large-scale automation isn't possible -- after all, then how will the average non-capital-owning person buy anything that's made? But under socialism, people can work less and less and still buy things, therefore driving and encouraging an economy with high levels of autonomy. These high-levels of autonomy, while not eliminating scarcity in its entirety, reduces its burden to a large degree on the average population. This reduction in scarcity would reduce conflict between peoples and nations to a large degree to the point where any continuing presence of such is vestigial, and give rise to inclusive democracy.

The society in Star Trek is *exactly* what Communism is supposed to be.

But USSR and China weren't/aren't really socialist, either. Socialism, by Marxist definition, needs to be a republican form of government -- socialism is nothing more than the common man having an equal control of the government as the rich man. Actually, go read the Chinese Communist constitution. They're *supposed* to have elections and democracy. Before Mao took over the government through populist exploitation, the CCP was actually very inspired by US democracy, sought to emulate it, then improve upon it by removing the domination of capitalist elites. Then after Mao got into power, he killed all the communists who didn't denounce democracy.

Sup Forums plz go

Wew summer is here lads.

>the they aren't real commies argument

Well, really, they aren't. They're just authoritarians that used communism as propaganda to justify their authority. By definition, socialism and communism need to be republican.

This guy is correct.

There is no such thing as money in star trek so what is the point of proprietary software.

>Wew summer is here lads.
1. Moot already confirmed summer fags are a myth
2. I've never heard an original Fag or old fag use the term "summer fag"

Are you claiming it isn't true?

Really? I'm not going to call myself an oldfag, but I've been an on-and-off lurker of Sup Forums since probably 2006 or so. Basically every year it's pointed out how shit the site goes in the summer.

I thought it was basically free-as-in-libre, so that all the engineers could hack up solutions for their captains in a pinch by altering the operation. It is even a recurring point, that every crew member and passenger has access to almost everything, including communications and information. I seem to recall Laforge messing and changing up some computery solution that a scientist had published, i.e. free-as-in-libre computer software.

Hell, arent like 10+ different episodes centered around problems arising from some passenger being able to freely read manuals, schematics, and the operation of the computer, and using that to take control?

No

>forgetting TOS s1e3 - "Where no man has gone before"
>forgetting TOS s1e24 - "Space seed"
Thats two off the top of my head, out of the first season of the first show.
Pls try harder.

GET READY BOYS, WE'RE GOING TO REDDIT!!!!!!

The federation doesn't have a real economy, they have plentiful energy and can matter-replicate shit. Nothing is proprietary because everyone has the ultimate 3D printer for literally anything except free energy, but energy is seemingly free for civilian life.

That means not only is the software "open source", the hardware is also open source. You could also replicate a replicator, which means the replicator itself, is open source.

put me in the screencap daddy

I think the moot thing is due to maybe college students being home and doing stuff and some people not going on. But the quality definitely goes down

10/10

If it's closed source then how come so many people have access to the source-code to re-write subroutines ?

aka Jordie, Data, and O'Brien

I mean UNIX wasn't exactly open-source yet everyone and their mum hacked it up to suit their needs.

truth

The point is the communism always fails. Regardless if republican or not.

Open source doesn't really work for defense. The people that work on the avionics in the F35 have to work in secure rooms where you can't bring your phone in and you're restricted in what part of the software you can see and who in your company you can talk to about your projects. Also the rooms have the ceilings built so that they can be inspected to make sure no one's trying to bug the room. So there's no reason why a military space ship would ever be open source.

i like this meme even if it was initiated by a retarded goony man

>niggers
>in space

Why do you think Klingons exist in the show?

They wuz kangs.

False, a Klingon wouldn't steal from you.

>military space ship
never watched star trek, but isn't the idea that humanity has nothing left to do, so people just kinda wander space for shits and giggles
doesn't sound very militaristic
