What happened to all the optimism for robots?

All I see these days is spyware, lost jobs and military death machines. It's depressing.
There's literally no reason any of these should have a humanoid form-factor. Except sexbots obviously.
If it's humanoid it will be more relatable to people, and be more compatible with human environment and tools.

General purpose robots will have to be built to work with our infrastructure and our tools, in many cases this necessitates at least a vaguely humanoid form.
Our best shot are memory shape alloys. They're noiseless but they are slow.
People think automation, and therefore robotics will steal ther jerbs. Which honestly, if your job can be replaced by current robotics, you deserve to lose your fuckin job.
Robots do tons of things already in almost every sector of the economy there is they just look like giant arms on swivels so no one gives a fuck.
Finally, my personal moot
depression-lite happened. aside from the exceedingly rich, people rarely have enough money to spend on things they don't need these days. back when there was optimism for robotics, it was also expected that a person could afford a robot to have, but now even the universities and companies that develop robotics are stretched thin.
i would rather have factory workers have their job than, for example, let gender studies majors be employed.
