By chance we happen to google her name and the name of her dissertation.... the fucking school is selling HER writing for $60+ per copy.

1. Academia is not about "access to knowledge" or objective truth or any high and noble purpose they pretend to represent. It's about money and personal prestige. If this wasn't true, all journals would have moved to a free online model. God knows the universities receive enough public funding to host the servers.
2. Academia works through tenure and unions to quash and dissent to the above.

Movie theaters generally only make money on upselling services like special seating or screenings and concessions.
elsevier only makes money because of:
1. rich foreign students whose parents just buy whatever if on the reading list no questions asked because it's nothing to them.
2. students who are forced to buy the reprint of intro topics that have not changed in decades just so they can get the stupid CD with the access code to the "online assignments" that elsevier forces the schools to force the professors to use.

Jews. It's because scientists need money for funding research and so they often get it through contracts that result in partial or full copyright transfer of results, which in turn they want to profit from so they sell to academic journals.
These small group of publishers can do a better job of defending their material than record labels, because the target demographic is much smaller.
