Not for long. Aaron Swartz' will be done. All knowledge shall be free.
Jack Sanchez
They are milking universities aka governments. It's the best source of income ever.
Charles Nelson
Actually, it was television that killed music stores and radio.
Video killed the radio star Video killed the radio star In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone too far Pictures came and broke your heart Put down the blame on VCR
Same reason why college textbooks can still cost $150 a piece every semester and now with the access codes they are pretty much un-resellable.
James Martinez
The Internet killed my father, and raped my mother.
Levi Edwards
I miss quality TV and Blockbuster video.
Piracy/streaming services have trivialised movies somehow. It's weird. Access to everything for free, but no desire to watch them.
Jose Walker
I used to be obsessed with my ratio and downloading everything. When i never watched anything.
Isaac Hernandez
We're not meant to be so spoiled with so much choice and plenty, we can amuse ourselves to death in this modern world.
Wyatt Wilson
No you just gave up. Don't blame the medium, you're just a failure and unable to handle choice. You're only one step above your grandma who wants "technology to be simple".
David Green
Academic Journals... what a fucking rip off.
My girl got a Doctorate in Education and had to ofcourse write a dissertation... She did... went through all the drama... and got her doctorate.
By chance we happen to google her name and the name of her dissertation.... the fucking school is selling HER writing for $60+ per copy.
We dont know if they ever sold a copy, I doubt it.. but these fucks just get to sell your hard work and profit off it.
Landon Wright
>but what FORBES magazine thought would be internet's first victim in 1995 is stronger then ever. SCI-HUB killed it. based russians.
Yeah journals are the cancer of the research world. I can't imagine what I would have done if I had to pay 50€ for every fucking paper I referenced in mine. Thank heavens sci-hub exists.
Luke Reyes
1. Academia is not about "access to knowledge" or objective truth or any high and noble purpose they pretend to represent. It's about money and personal prestige. If this wasn't true, all journals would have moved to a free online model. God knows the universities receive enough public funding to host the servers.
2. Academia works through tenure and unions to quash and dissent to the above.
Elijah Morales
The cover is more unique
Nathan James
Buy the international versions. They're hard to get (and illegal if you're in the USA) but literally a third of the price.
Adrian Rogers
Just print a digital copy
Even better, you can just print the chapters you need
Jose Smith
Uniquely shit.
Charles Walker
umad bro?
Isaiah Gray
Remember when everyone was panicking that VHS would surely killed the entire television and movie industry? Yeah, that never happened.
Cameron Lewis
>killed You mean replaced with a better alternative?
Nolan Lopez
>Video killed the radio >not posting a video
Wyatt Taylor
Movie theaters generally only make money on upselling services like special seating or screenings and concessions.
Hudson Jones
elsevier only makes money because of:
1. rich foreign students whose parents just buy whatever if on the reading list no questions asked because it's nothing to them.
2. students who are forced to buy the reprint of intro topics that have not changed in decades just so they can get the stupid CD with the access code to the "online assignments" that elsevier forces the schools to force the professors to use.
academia has become a scam and the entire millenial generation got the short end of the stick
academia should be 100% state funded but no more than 25% of the current enrollment rates should be allowed.
Ryder Morris
>academia has become a scam and the entire millenial generation got the short end of the stick lmao why dont they just get a job
Brayden Morris
Shut up, this thread is now dedicated to sinful, decadent, off the wall batshit insane bubblegum Eurodance
>still exists >still exist in some capacity (there's an fye at a mall a few miles from my house) >still exist >still exist, just not exclusively (micro center, etc) >still exist >still exist >still exist >still exist >not sure, but they probably still exist >still exist >not sure, but they probably still exist Yeah OP, the internet sure killed those things.
>and illegal if you're in the USA THat's bullshit. I buy the international versions of books for 90% of my classes
Ian Morris
>WHY? Jews. It's because scientists need money for funding research and so they often get it through contracts that result in partial or full copyright transfer of results, which in turn they want to profit from so they sell to academic journals.
These small group of publishers can do a better job of defending their material than record labels, because the target demographic is much smaller.
Tyler Lopez
>The last thing internet will kill, is itself It will collapse when people start to flee from advertising, data mining & regulations. It WILL happen. Question is when
Isaac Davis
The internet has killed >Privacy >CIA >NSA >FBI >GCHQ >Stock Traders >Banking >Mirror Trading >Bad Cryptography >Democrats >Republicans >Society
Jason Mitchell
>academia has become a scam >academia should be 100% state funded Jesus fuck, what's wrong with you?
I'm not even some lolbergtarian ancrap, but academia has to be totally defunded. The world literally advanced into the modern age on the backs of nothing but private universities and smart poor kids getting scholastic grants. It has gone totally down-hill since it became a state funded institution of higher social programming.
Logan Lopez
Porn magazines killed themselves.
Isaiah Bailey
You forgot journalism, although maybe cable TV did that
