Is data hoarding a mental illness?

Is data hoarding a mental illness?
I keep thinking about how much time I've wasted hoarding data that won't matter after I die and I get depressed.

It sounds like a compulsion which is leaving you with negative feelings.

That's definitely not good.

I wanted to hoard data but my completion and consistency autism made it impossible.

Release the data user

We should really be using most of our local storage as a cache these days, wonder if there is a filesystem solution for this? Something where the disk gets full it deletes files with oldest atime....

If you post the folder here it will matter to more people.

I just bought a 3TB external after my 2TB one got filled up. Should i an hero at this point?

that's pretty harmless, even normalfags have 4TB drives for movies and shows now.

>46TB
And it'll take you a year to download that data off the site.

I mainly access certain files at a time, streaming shows off it works great.
I also have a second account that syncs all the data to it in case one of them gets taken down.

Wait hang on how do you even get over 30TB? Google for Work? One of those shady accounts you buy from ebay?

g suites gives you unlimited for $10 per month.
I basically buy a month, fill up my shit and then cancel.
Your data doesn't get deleted, you just can't upload or change anything more until you have an active subscription again.

This is preferable over greymarket accounts because those are managed by some admin somewhere who can look at all your files, delete your account and if he gets busted all the accounts he managed disappear.

so you upload once and can't add more again. yeah that does sound like a mental illness

I upload once then only reactivate when I have more stuff to hoard.
Makes more sense than paying regularly.

what are yuo hoarding?

Most likely encrypted cp

Just built a 36tb home nas to store my data horde

every episode of mystery diners honestly.
there are no good torrents out there so I'm recording the mpegs and uploading them for archival.

Shit dude on my home server I have the following
>movies 12tb (I've gotten big into 35mm theatrical rips... absolutely incredible quality)
>TV shows 4tb
>music 2tb (mostly FLAC)
I absolutely love it. It's like having my own personal Netflix and Spotify no matter where I am.

this is not normal, run-off-the-mill autism; this is advanced autism

>mystery diners
what are the coolest 3 episodes so i can dl them?

That is a joke right?

Normalfags don't know what a terabyte is

consider netflix

stop modify that html jamal

Just delete it.
tfw I have a 50Gb file encrypted with 20+ characters and I lost the password, and I'm still unable to press that fucking button.

At least it's not IRL hoarding.

>implying a man who stores 46tb of obscure data has a clean house

i only hoard hentai

Shitty Sup Forums memes, macros and other junk.
I have 2 logic-dead drives with shit from 2004-2010~
BOTH Seagate. Whodda thunk it? Fucking shit-tier drives.
I still have drives from the 90s that work. Worthless cunts.

I don't even care to recover the data off them.
Probably just going to put them in the oven and drop them in ice.

I want to deploy object storage on my home servers to make shit scalable.

How do I do it Sup Forums

they use g suite business, pay for one users $5/mo for the 1TB limit, except google doesn't force it thus allowing you upload any amount you want

>that won't matter after I die
Make it work, even if you die.

An undocumented system is not unlike a deadman's switch for data.
Keep it in a redistributable format and use shit like IPFS so you can share said data as often as possible before you bite it.

What algorithm? Do you remember parts of the password?

Also: What do you need a 50 GB file for? Is it an archive?

not if it's filled with loli porn released now

Shit nigger I have 4 TB of porn and your autism still blows mine out of the fucking water

when something you do causes concern to you or doesnt feel good then you know its bad and you should stop
however if you like it why stop

charles stiles mystery diners
>CHARLES STILES MYSTERY DINERS

Godspeed user, you're doing Gods work
Check out Archive Team and archive.org, it seems you're interested in archiving shit

I P F S
For sharing.
Or Hydrus if you just want to locally tag things.

motherboard raid or hardware raid?
should I raid my hoard at all?
I got a bunch of 3tbs and i figure I could either RAID them or just be smart and check on my SMART data to know when I should buy a new drive

weekly reminder

wdullaer.com/blog/2015/04/05/hack-your-wd-greens/

(even if you have their more recent drives you should check your head parking values)

Thats correct user, you should switch to alcoholism or drugs

>motherboard raid or hardware raid?
ZFS or Btrfs
>should I raid my hoard at all?
Only if you need your hoard to be available as much as possible, RAID it's to avoid downloading your whole hoard from your offsite backup when your drives fail
>I got a bunch of 3tbs and i figure I could either RAID them or just be smart and check on my SMART data to know when I should buy a new drive
This should be good enough, though SMART isn't a good indicator of drive failure
After learning about this I disable parking and power saving features on every HDD I have

I only hoard porn I think I'll jack to later. I end up watching maybe 20% of what I hoard in a given year... Might be a problem if I hoard more than 100gigs.

My current drives are ext4
I got like 7 new drives im loading in to samba for some other people to use for their torrents and home folders and such

I never heard a stable opinion on using ZFS or Btrfs for a hard disk so I end up falling back on ext4.

which one should i really do, zfs or btrfs?

Arch linux btw

For what seems like a production environment like yours ZFS
Btrfs is pretty mature nowadays but weirdish bugs still show up from time to time in btrfs-tools and the kernel, this year some guys found out the hard way that catastrophic corruption could happen with compression enabled

>46TB
holy shit, do you just save everything you find on the internet?

Are you screencapping me right now and saving it?

kek Sup Forums is not completely ruined yet. this is fascinating.

u r like bby

I assume you do editing work?

I wouldn't think it's an issue unless you're some sort of addict funneling every last cent you have into more storage or are otherwise fucking up your life because of it. "Hoarding" data on drives isn't really anything like what actual hoarders do to their living environment/themselves.

make it so it gets publicized once you die
that way things that might have been lost may not be gone from the internet

is this serial?
i've an wd green drive on 24/7 for like five years
is it kill soon

Using ZFS as my root partition on ALL my devices.
Accept nothing less.

>motherboard raid or hardware raid?
Software, like ZFS or at least mdadm. That way if something fails at least your array should still be usable once you set it up in a new machine without requiring specific hardware replacements, like the same mobo or the same RAID controller. ZFS is generally the better solution in terms of data safety, but mdadm is arguably much easier to set up, lighter on resources and allows you to expand existing arrays with more drives in a manner which ZFS does not. It has the significant disadvantage of not being able to tell if a drive gets corrupted (but doesn't outright fail) which would fuck your data up.

Check your park numbers.
If they're over 100k, now ur fokked.

Is zfsonlinux the best solution? Or do you think btrfs is ready?

Holy fuck the autism never stops getting stronger

>Data hoarding
>Cloud storage
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This

As much as I desperately want btrfs to be ready, I don't think it is. Even with the 4.12 fixes RAID56 isn't checksumming parity right. And it took them what, like nine months to get even those fixes out?

>46TB
>He calls that a proper hoard

Not even close son. 46TB is A thru C of my porn collection

Books here. Anything else could give a shit. Academic Books always have the shittiest drm.

No, that was some guy storing every JAN / Porn video he could find onto Amazon for shits n giggles.
1PB = tens of thousands of dollars in storage costs, Amazon did it for free (for a short time.

I periodically go through and cull stuff from my drives, usually about twice a year.

Someone uploaded a pb of data to Amazon, so at least you aren't at god-tier autism levels yet, but 46tb seriously? At least store it on physical drives not botnet cloud

link pls

>every episode of mystery diners honestly.

Something is shit in your life and this provides a sense of control, clean your room

No they don't.

fucking kek
keep doing you thing dude

46TB

I don't even know what to say.

It's not just the storage size, but the upload time. I don't even want to think about it.

What happens to your data if you stop paying?

I don't even know what mystery diners are and I can feel your autism

Not much will matter when you die OP, up until that point everything fucking matters so make the most of life and hoard to your hearts content.

>I keep thinking about how much time I've wasted hoarding data that won't matter after I die and I get depressed.

I'm going to be buried with my hard drive, plus spares. How else will I data hoard in the afterlife?

Holy smokes man what on earth would take up 46terabytes

Do you leave your PC on every night and upload daily? Over 3 years I've used up all my space (2tb)

LOL

user... Marry me.
