How come foobar tells me .m4a files are lossy when I'm trying to make 320 CBR ones out of them?
m4a is supposed to be ALAC right?
Is it perhaps because foobar doesn't have a proper transcoder for it? Assuming that's the case, why the fuck is it in the list then?

I have a Virgin Media Superhub, Virgin Media is my ISP, the Superhub is a router and modem in one, so that's the only thing in.

The super hub is a bit shit though, if I bought a router would that improve things? I have no idea on this stuff.
How are WifI extenders? Meme or not?

Thanks

m4a is just the container, usually for AAC but it supports others
ALAC is just one of the formats the container supports, but I guess foobar does not support encoding it.

Intel processors are a nightmare
Could someone just help me understanding the i5-7Y54 vs the i5-6200u?

If your WiFi is shit but your wired and internet are fine then getting a new router/ap could help, sure.

the 7Y54 will be slower but use less power

Thanks, Is it going to be a significant difference in speed or just very marginal?
They're a gen apart I think, but I don't really know much.

>new router/ap
ap?
Also, yeah Wired is fine. It's just wireless, the range is absolutely shit and it seems to struggle and drop out.

I'm just a bit confused because I have a superhub though from my ISP. The modem and router are in one, how would I set up a separate new router and replace the old?

I'm having trouble displaying a 16:9 1080p display on my Samsung Smart TV. Even when I hooked HDMI cables, set the cable box and TV to 16:9 (well, actually screen fit to avoid overscan), I get black bars surrounding the TV screen, when I didn't zoom in at all. I have another Samsung HDTV which is not the smart one but I managed to set that one up correctly and I get widescreen/letterbox.

probably somewhat marginal, depends on how the 7Y54's turbo performs

armor piercing access point

AP = Access Point, aka wireless router
Not the guy from before, from what I remember of having Virgin 4 years ago you could set it to be only a modem, sending the connection along one of the ethernet ports to another router. If you have their 300Mb/s internet, that would slow you down though (can't remember if the ethernet ports are gigabit or not).

When I turn on my iPhone, it goes into recovery mode (with the iTunes logo on the screen). When I connect it to my PC, it asks to restore the phone, and when I try to restore it, I get an error (pic related).

What do? I tried going into DFU mode but it's the same shit.

You just turn the wifi of on the shit one and plug the new one into an Ethernet port of the old one. Probably have to configure the new one to either be a bridge or to get an address from the old one.

Did you google the error code?

I am about to buy a Pass™ however I'm paranoid as fuck.
I couldn't get prepaid Visa so I don't know what else to do.
Can I do it anonymously and securely as possible?
Who do I rely my trust on? Hiroshimoot or anybody else?

Yes, I did. No solution works.

My external HDD stopped working. When i plug in all i see is this. Should i give up on it, or is there something that may resurrect it again?

Use gparted and see if you can format the file system.

Given that they sound identical, is there any reason not to use the maximum level of compression with FLAC (8)? Most rips I've downloaded only use 5.

I asked in the headphone general but upon thinking about it it's probably not really the right general for it, so I'll try here.

I get an awful lot of static/background noise when using a wired mic, tried both front and back 3.5mm ports, as well as a 3.5mm to USB passthrough. It doesn't seem to be related to ambient fan noise as I can walk 10 feet from my PC or cup the microphone and the noise is still there.

I know it could be anything, but I've got two questions.

One, at the moment I've got a decent pair of studio monitors that for some reason are extremely loud. Everything I play has to be at 1-5% volume or it's deafening. Could the reason the static is so prominent be because I'm listening to things on such a low volume, which sounds fine in my ears, but there's a disparity with microphone playback being so loud, and thus the static being prominent?

And secondly, would a wireless headset help at all? I'm in the market as my old microphone headset broke and these studio monitors have no microphone, so I'm having to wrap my old pair of broken headphones around my neck to use the mic while using my monitors. But I'm not sure if it would help at all, if the issue is with static issues inside my PC, or dodgy I/O, etc.

takes longer to encode
if you're not batch processing a thousand files it probably isn't that big of a difference

>tfw codec hell
Is wiping the windows partition the only failsafe cure?

if im particularly looking for smooth, fast (specifically in-browser) video playback/interaction in a new computer, what are the aspects/specifications i need to pay attention to? thanks

No, using smplayer or plain mpv is the cure.

Thanks for the help lads. I don't have 300mbps, I just have the Virgin Superhub 1 at 50mbps and my laptop is ass at picking up the Wifi and maintaining it well.

Do you think a Wifi extender would be better or am I better off with a new router?
I've sort of looked at both but don't know which I'd be better off with. The superhub I do have is poor, but when it comes to routers I've no idea what to look for or how to even decide on a good one for myself.
Extenders seem more basic but I don't know if they're as good, or even just the same really

Just the general stuff (CPU, GPU etc) and the screen refresh rate.

cool, cheers
not anything to do with a graphics card etc or any other bits of hardware?

SSD, 8 GB of RAM, quad core CPU.

>probably somewhat marginal
Thanks for the help.
Would the difference be noticeable in some light gaming?
Obviously looking at U and Y processors I'm not looking to do anything too heavy, but some Photoshop, as well as some light video editing is probably going to be part of it.

It's just hard to tell because Google just gives a bunch of benchmark sites.
Just to confirm, the i5-6200U is going to be better, but by very little to the point of not being noticeable in usage?

The synthetic I looked at gives about a 10% difference, but as I mentioned before it really depends on how the turbo mode of the 7Y54 holds up under real world conditions.

What is that and how much does it pay?

cheers, how does the ssd affect it? and how would 4gb perform in contrast?

>How come foobar tells me .m4a files are lossy when I'm trying to make 320 CBR ones out of them?
perhaps because it makes no sense for a lossless file to be "320" nor "CBR", these only apply to lossy codecs
you can't set the bitrate for lossless files, as it uses whatever it needs to not cause any loss
also m4a is just a container, not an audio codec

SSD makes your OS more responsive and everything will load faster
With modern bloat you should have at least 8GB for basic multitasking

I have a nvidia shield that will be running plex or kodi and I want to buy/build a NAS that can hold all of my chinese cartoons, all in mkv format. I'll probably be putting live action bluray rips and other things on there as well.

While my primary use case will be my shield media server, I'd also like to have the flexibility to play on other devices as well, like my laptops.

What kind of NAS should I be looking for? I'm checking out a couple Synology boxes but I'm confused about what determines if they support MKVs. Additionally I'm not against building a NS but prebuild options do take up less space which is nice.

What works better for thermal grease, chapstick, toothpaste, mayonnaise, or gain yes paste?

got it
does modern bloat apply even if the os isnt contemporary (win 7)?

does thermal grease differ from thermal paste?

Got a laptop here, can't decide what to install on it. Throw at me some ideas, if you don't mind-
Specs of my toaster:
CPU: Pentium M 1.5 GHz
RAM: 512MB
Disk: 56GiB
Video: 1024x768 TFT LCD on ATI Mobility Radeon
Other features: LPT port, rj11 and rj45 ports, dvd/cd-rw drive, PCMCIA, IrDA, S-Video out, mini FireWire.
Wireless card: Intel PRO 2200BG
>inb4 install a specific gnu/Linux distro
Can't get wifi working on both LiGNUx and bsd, so that's a no for me.

non-gel toothpaste
put some on a friends' kids' gpu several months ago when changing it's broken fan and nobody has noticed yet

yes

same thing, different words

how big an external hdd can you get that doesnt need a power cable nowadays? thanks

Thanks I needed something temporary for an xbox 360

Ram ddr4 really has so much difference from ddr3?

openwrt

My father got a fake mail from Amazon with a zip folder inside. He accidentally opened the zip file on his macbook. Is there a chance that his macbook is infected now with a virus or are they all just for windows?

it'll work in a pinch, but 360's get hot as shit afaik
i used some on a lowly gt640, after putting a fan that was a bit larger than it's stock on it, so it runs cool enough

not really sure how long it'll last, but i mean, if it's just for a couple days until you get some proper paste, i don't see why it won't do the job

It shouldn't be a deciding factor in what you buy.

What are the best torrent sites these days? Looking for software and maybe ebooks. Don't need shows or movies or porno.

just opened zip?

>Is there a chance that his macbook is infected now with a virus or are they all just for windows?
Yes

Probable?
No.

Must read: catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

it's not impossible that he has infected it with something

Yeah, it got some Arctic Silver in the mail but my little bro wants to play it right now and is pitching a big fit. I put him in my room with the dreamcast and crazy taxi but he keeps bitching about the controller

Yes, it could happen. If there are virus scanners for mac i'd look into it if you're worried but chances are it's very low

Mobile Pentium M (Centrino? or Celeron?)
Either way you'll not get much OpenSource action on either.
Centrino chips are shit for *Nix so's Celeron although you'll probably find loads of closed course proprietry shit with Celeron or iCore.
My advise would be shop around and pick up an alternative with an open source chip like amd geode or intel atom - before cherry trail. Or search around for older SGI, SPARC or Mips based like Atheros or PowerPC. You wont get Lie-Nux or Berkley in-Secure demon on anything else!

which ones do you already know?

Just pirate bay. I don't regularly torrent stuff.

unblocked.bet

Bump

(Centrino? or Celeron?)
Centrino

Will try that later

There are some problem. Motherboard is old af so it's doesn't support booting from USB and my dvd player had died months ago, and didn't had the time to replace it. So a Gparted live is out of question. Anything similar to it?

Are bad dragon dildos firm enough to hold headphones?

It depends

I'm visioning the tentacle in firm, used with DT 770's

Is the chromebook pixel (2013) worth it? It looks fucking awesome if you just upgraded the SSD and dual-booted linux on it.

An RX 460 doesn't output any signal over HDMI or DVI, not even the boot splash. The fans spin, the HDMI cable and monitor works with other GPUs. Should I RMA?

Nice setup, by my calculations the blue it's the most cost/efficient in this season

Is it still necessary to disable secure boot to dual boot with grub? I thought I read the bigger Linux distros were starting to gain secure boot support. I plan on dual booting mint.

i guess i only know rarbg additionally then that isnt private

what channel is your monitor on user?

I've set it to HDMI. My other card works fine over HDMI/DVI on the same monitor. Same results if I use the TV.

Thanks user

When does the turbo mode kick in? Is that under stress only, and then it might not be maintained because of temperatures?

whats the thing at the top of this website (the strip that shows the soundless videos of the website's content) in terms of like a gif or webm etc

SecretCrushStudios.Com

and why does it make my laptop/browser run so slow/unresponsive

Self bump with attention grabbing pupper

Install the gparted application in Windows. Since you have an OS installed don't worry about using it as a boot option.

What's the best way to deal with rejection when applying for an IT job? I applied for 3 positions already and 2 gave me the cold shoulder and the third one say outright no.

Before i do anything else... it started to make weird buzzing sounds. Every once in a while, is that normal?

NVM,
no idea why, but now it let me reformat it with the default reformatter and it's working right now.

>reddit dog memes

you need to go back

Honestly I don't even know where that came from, I just need someone to help me out m88

I'm trying to build a librebooted system. I'm going to get the Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L motherboard (>tfw to poor to buy dual AMD opterons) this board would fit a core 2 quad Q660 but I'm not sure if it would be compatible with libreboot. Has anyone tried this?

Is there any difference between desktop GPU for Mac and PC other than the driver software?

Is there a free alternative for Sublight to download subtitles from a lot of episodes in a folder at once?

yes, lots of them
just search for auto download subtitles or something

The firmware is different, using a non "mac edition" or custom flashed card on a mac pro will give no video until the OS is finished booting.

Can I use openvpn to make something similar to hamachi? I'd like to make "local" network over internet for me and a few friends.

How does subnetting work? I now there are 3 (major) IP classes. Does a subnet get called with the net-id and then forwards the connection to the appriopriate subnet or does every network has a public subnet-mask?

So basically how do other computers know how to communicate with you if you use a subnet mask different from the ip-classes.

Anybody know how to make this exclude based on ratings? You can exclude tags by using ashuffle --exclude tagname tag, but ratings aren't actually tags in mpd, they're stickers. Or if anybody knows a different way to add songs automatically based on ratings that would be good too.

3 rejections can be random chance, but I suggest trying to find out why they rejected you and work on yourself

>Make a portfolio of programs to show your coding style
>Get free or paid online certifications (udemy)
>Get some "experience" (i know this is stupid)
>Apply moar, but also see if your applications are good (ask a third party to judge them) and make your application papers as perfect as possible
>alternatively, kys

Install gentoo and list that in your application

What did you write on your CV? just curious.

What's the difference between a Core 2 Duo and a Pentium with the same model name? Is the C2D more powerful?
Ex:
ark.intel.com/en/products/42809/Intel-Pentium-Processor-E6700-2M-Cache-3_20-GHz-1066-FSB
ark.intel.com/en/products/27251/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E6700-4M-Cache-2_66-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB

Yes
>block internet in openvpn server
>set route for only local network
>run server
But why?

>I now there are 3 (major) IP classes.
Not anymore. Those classes have become obsolete decades ago.

>does every network has a public subnet-mask?
Yes.

>So basically how do other computers know how to communicate with you if you use a subnet mask different from the ip-classes.
Subnets play no role in transmitting packets between different networks. A network with subnet mask delineates a range of addresses that can communicate with each other directly. Getting packets from one network (= subnet) to another uses an entirely different mechanism, namely Routing.

They're different products, same model number is kinda irrelevant. The Pentium is bit newer and usually faster from he higher clock speed.

>What's the difference between a Core 2 Duo and a Pentium with the same model name? Is the C2D more powerful?
In this particular case, the Pentium is a newer and faster version of the earlier C2D processor. More generally, Intel's naming scheme is a complete mess; you'll need to compare individual processor to make sense of it.

I fell for the information systems major at my uni and graduated in April and do not feel qualified to do anything IT. I'm getting BTFO in tech interviews by CS kids and after applying to 200 places and doing 6 interviews the past 6 months I still haven't landed anything. Any suggestions on how to land a internship/job? I've tried networking and all sorts of other things, also should I brush up on my database knowledge and make an sql project on my off days from wagecuckig to show at my next interview? I can't compete for dev jobs and don't want to be a programmer I'd really like to be a systems analyst but all those jobs require like 5 years experience.

Hey /g could you recommend a simple (like a sketchup) cad for 2d thermal conductivity calculation? Win/mac/free/pirated doesnt matter.
