CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560/G4600 - Budget builds (R5 1400 - Cheapest quad core you can get (Ryzen 3 soon)
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - 144hz only
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any

Can we ban AMD shills from making these threads please?

first for fuck miners

My R5 1600 arrived today, waiting on the rest then you're toast.

reposting from the last thread.
will a firewire plug work on a usb 3.1 slot? if not, will an adapter work?

If I go for a CPU liquid AIO, which is better: a front mounted 280mm pulling air in with rear/top exhaust fans, or a 120mm rear mounted as exhaust with probably 2x140mms intake on the front?

I want to build a PC for basic web browsing 1080p video and libreboot.
My Budget is roughly 200$ But I allready have many parts.
Parts I have:
Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L motherboard
4GB of ram (2gb x2)
Core 2 quad Q660
Optical drive
250GB HDD

What I need:
Power supply
Case
Graphics card ( This card must work with no propietary drivers what so ever and must also work with libreboot No binary blobs either)

Country: USA
What do you guys reccomend?

So we are throwing out a lot of hardware of systems that we do not wish to support anymore at work and I can have 32 GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM 3200 (2 x 16 GB) which I could put into my thinkpad t460p for just 80 $

I probably won't need 32 GB Ram in my entire life (>inb4 640k are enough) but it's just 80 $.

Is there -any- benefit that I could talk myself into in order to justify the purchase to myself, other than being the hero of screenfetch threads?

Be the hero of your wallet.

I've got a i5 3570k overclocked at 4.3ghz

Is a 980ti a decent enough upgrade from the R290 to run VRshit at a more stable 90fps or would I need a CPU upgrade as well?

does it mean "buy" or "buy not"?

Proud owner of a i5 skylake, someone please buy this shit off of me so I can get a r7 1700!

You're asking someone to flat out justify a purchase, when you list objective reasons for/against it.

You know your money situation better than anybody.

So is Intel limiting all pentiums or just the g4560?

My question was more like "is there any reason to have 32 gb of ram?"

How will an R5 1600 and RX580/GTX 1070 pair for 1080p gaming? What about somewhat heavy video editing and other productivity? I have access to both GPUs with about $90 of a price gap between them; which would be a better buy for that CPU? Lastly, does anyone have any recent benchmarks for a R5 1600 in Arma 3?

"if you will use it"

Could probably get pretty stupid with a ramdisk.

I run a VM for porn, that's reason enough

Any reason to not buy a refurbished hard drive? These Hitachi and HGST are so cheap it's hard to pass up.
Anyone have experience with either/are they louder than a normal hdd?

pcpartpicker.com/list/yB8mcc

for a friend

Depends on the cost of the upgrade, but sure, sounds good.

Sorry for the stupid question but what is the real difference between a Caviar Black and a Black? I see the Caviar Black has more cache and is also a lot cheaper but it's from the older lineup right? What makes the new lineup better or should I just go with a Caviar?

I wouldn't touch MSI's motherboards with a shit-covered stick, personally. The Asus Prime B350-Plus is around the same price.

>recommending Anus instead
good joke

Which mobo is better? Asus prime B350 plus or Gigabyte B350 gaming 3?

I have the b350 pc mate and it's fine. Decent for overclocking and no gamer aesthetics.

580 is enough, 1070 is overkill.

Can anyone in this thread help me troubleshoot boot issues or is there a more appropriate thread for that? I checked the catalogue and this seems to be the closest to my needs.

Am I living in the past if I use a 1920x1200 24" screen?

If I have a single rail PSU does it matter if I use dedicated GPU power cable or connect GPU and HDDs to one cable with adapters?

There should be a stupid questions thread.

Jump on 2 extra fans early for the case, the front panel comes off to expose two 120 or 140mm mounts.

I'm reading your comment on a 19" 1280x1024 screen.
Literally living the 2006 dream.

Ok, thanks.

Are all EVGA PSUs made by Seasonic?

Don't use adapters if you don't have to.

No.
HEC, Super Flower, FSP, Seasonic
Maybe a couple others.

Not sure if comfy or cramped. Is it at least a lcd?

Sorry for a retarded question, but this thing will fit in a standard ATX case, right?

seasonic.com/product/snow-silent-750/

Would it be better to get a Seasonic PSU instead?

Asus have objectively the best UEFI implementation on the market. Kick and scream all you like, but you won't be able to post evidence of one with more features or a better layout, because no such thing exists.

>"""""fine"""""

Come back in a year when the shit tier components MSI use start failing.

>newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16824021046R
Help me.

It should. ATX/PSU fittings are never an exact science.

Unlike EVGA, Seasonic doesn't make bad PSUs. Even their cheapest offerings are at least "good".
Just because brainless sheep can't recommend anything beyond Seasonic, EVGA, or Corsair units, doesn't mean you need to limit yourself to those offerings (not that it means that buy is the wrong choice).
linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/

Care to explain why? I have to have a dangling molex plug right next to my gpu anyway, might as well use it if it won't cause any damage.

>590 faster than 670
what kind of retarded naming convention is nvidia using? I haven't followed much on GPU releases, how comes 590 is faster than 670?

Is this guy right? I built around MSI B350 mate but if ASUS have better BIOS I might switch, especially considering how I'll pretty much have to update my BIOS to make my RAM run up to speed.

PSUs cables and rails are rated for specific tolerances based on the connections provided.
Anything you cook up outside of that is on you. It's not recommended. Will it explode? Probably not.

Slightly updated first time build. Can anyone give some insight on the video card (Asus GTX 1060 6GB)? What are its limits? I mainly play rocket league, LoL, and some platformers but I want to play more open world games like GTA and Hitman. Also i know DDR4 is the standard but how does GDDR5 fair?

pcpartpicker.com/list/ZN3B3F

Probably because *90 cards for Nvidia are dual die cards.

About 200USD. Thanks for the reply

While I'm here, I might be replacing my mobo for the 3570k as it may be defective. Would anyone be able to recommend one that's good for overclocking?

Outdated PSU. Can get better for same price.
For the money you are spending, pick either tier 1-2.
linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/

DDR4 is system, GDDR5 is GPU-only.

is that related to SLI? the benchmark doesn't mention about SLI though.

>is that related to SLI?

In practical terms yes - it is effectively two complete gpus bolted onto a single pcb.

Pic related, an dual die AMD card.

Not quite SLI, it's a single card with 2 GPUs on it.

In terms of operation it's identical to SLI/Crossfire though.

It is SLI, you can't run a 590/690/Titan Z without having an SLI-certified PCIe slot on your motherboard

Source: someone who fell for the Titan Z and ITX meme

>you can't run a 590/690/Titan Z without having an SLI-certified PCIe slot on your motherboard

To be pedantic you can run them - they will just run effectively as a single die.

>someone who fell for the Titan Z

Seek medical help for that retardation - I hear there are drugs that can help you focus and clam your thoughts.

Oh that's cool, now I get it. Will the temps be lower or higher with dual GPU boards like these?

>G4560/G4600 - Budget builds (

>they will just run effectively as a single die.
That would be bad. How do I see if my mobo's 16x PCIe slot supports dual GPU?

Historically dual due cards have been downclocked compared to their single die counterparts (i.e each die of a 690 comes clocked lower than a 680) to help with power draw but they are all generally nuclear reactors. Hell this is why AMD started selling their dual die cards (295x2 and radeon pro duo) with an AIO because you simply can't air cool two thirsty dies and the required vrms.

RTFM and see if it is sli and/or crossfire certified (they have different requirements for certification).

who here 4870x2?

>sli and/or crossfire
Looks like I'm out of luck:
pcpartpicker.com/product/vtPfrH/asus-motherboard-h81ma

No SLI support. Mini-ATX was a mistake.

With the Crypto currency crashing will gpu prices drop? Should I hold out till then?

This surprises you how? That board only has a single pcie slot.

Im in a predicament /pcbg/, I am building a new computer and I ordered a GTX 1070 and i5 7600k, along with 8gb of ram and mobo,
sadly the GTX 1070 probably wont come in for another month or so, I'm wondering if the performance of the integrated graphics of the i5 would be better or worse than my GT640 (very outdated I know)

I was really just thinking Overwatch might be a problem, but if anyone has a comparison site or anything please direct me to the right place.

OH goddammit Intel you pieces of shit

so does amazon prime day have any good gaming monitors on sale? I'm kinda tired of using a 7 year old tv as a monitor.

Won't matter, it's still profitable and will recover eventually

Hold a while longer, they're about to start restocking cards at the end of the month.

I know SLI is usually just 2 identical GPUs used together in sync through the connector above, but dual GPU boards like this use only one lane, don't they? so I thought it wouldn't be necessary all the time.

The igpu ous quite good for what it is but OW would be surely an issue. It can run D3 and Wow perfectly but struggles with SC2 and HOTS, so you need a discrete gpu.

Not 4870x2 but 4870. Which drivers do you use?

So what was that talk about MSI motherboards being crap? Is there any validity behind that claim?

Do you know what unique feature every tier has? like *90 is dual GPU tier, what about *80, *70 and the others? I've noticed that GT and GTX have a lot of of performance difference too (I'm using a GT right now, it sucks), then there're the Ti versions, I used one in the past and it was pretty good, what's so special about them?

It's the weekly shitposting rotation. Remember it was asus before that.

>we don't want to compete with AMD on any level anymore

anandtech.com/show/10969/the-intel-core-i57600k-91w-review-the-more-amenable-mainstream-performer/8
Look at the last 2 charts on this page. I think the R7 240 is about the equivalent of a GT640. You should be able to run Overwatch on integrated graphics.

Just memes user, I still have the card but don't actually use it anymore. Last drivers were 13.1 from what I recall.

Cool. I like the MSI selection of B350s more. Let's hope mine won't die on me.

There are no unique features to other GTX cards. The Ti models are just generally a supercharged card of a given tier. The 660ti for example was fucking fast for being a mid tier card whereas the 780, 980 and 1080ti cards have been titan beaten performance.

As for GT vs GTX the answer is simple: GT cards aren't for vidya and generally just media boxes. Really low tier cards like this have basically been replaced by Intel's igpu and the upcoming APUs from AMD will continue this trend.

AMD doesn't tend to have any particular moniker for their top tier cards beyond an X in the name since the great renaming (i.e 290x and fury x).

Which motherboard should I use to complement my R5 1600/GTX 1070 build? The Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 or the MSI Tomahawk?

>MFW I got a i7 3770, Asrock H77m, 212 Evo and 12GB of Ram for £150 because Canadian money is monopoly money and it all tested and working
feeling pretty good lads

If I'm a poorfag looking to buy a new PC, is it better to wait for Ryzen 3 and upgrade down the line when Zen 2 is released or try and get the 1600 now and upgrade later? I don't want to go with a G4560 because AMD has a better upgrade path and I need at least 4 cores since I do some photo and video editing and multitask a lot.

Butt how will you encode h.265 on that rig?

>find some Corsair Vengeance LPX sticks for pretty cheap
>check the compatibility one the MB site
>it fits, but it says the manufacturer is Samsung, the problem is these same sticks can also come with Hynix chips, which aren't mentioned
why is this such a shitshow

Does any company still make those fans with a physical 3 way switch/dial built in to control the speed manually (without one of the Zalman controllers)?

I'm in need of a 140mm to replace an Antec DustBuster fan in my test case. I could hear it through the floor while during a stress test last night.

Noctua is kind of overkill for this thing, but I'm still looking for speed control a la the Antec's switch.

Nigger detected.

The ones with SK Hynix are literally worse.

However with samsung you miss out the fun of hand tuning your timings, impudence and other sub-settings on x370!

I know, but with this particular stick you can't know which chips they come with until you buy and test them. Also some Hynix chips are supported by that motherboard, but for this particular kit you can't even know if they are, because it strictly lists that kit as "Samsung", not "Samsung/Hynix". That's a shitshow.

I bought a 2600K and a Maximus IV Extreme (boxed and in mint condition) for the exact same price a couple of months ago. Using it now and can't tell the difference compared to the 6700K I have.

Should I just install my GT640 then too? Can I use integrated graphics and the 640? Will drivers be a pain to remove later?

I need like 4 - 6 tb of storage and I need it cheaper since its fucking expensive right now.
Also I need a cheap gpu like the rx 550, the one I added got sold out.

thanks in advanced and pic related

Just tried the 4k 120mbs test, Fuck me that's bad, but I've never got past 3rd gen intel personally user, I'm not upgrading my own CPU until it's severely outdated and I'm making the best of my 3570k while i can and this rig is for my brother's birthday whole family is chipping in and all thought I might as well find him something good
Remember seeing a 2600k retrospective saying when Overclocked it matches a 4790k still pretty good for the price user considering a new one was £100 alone on Aliexpress

Yeah. Switch between them by moving the display cable. You'll need 2 sets of drivers which don't cause any conflicts. Wipe them with DDU when your 1070 arrives.

whats the point of that M.2 drive if its not NVME ?
If you seriously need more storage consider building a NAS box or just buy one and populate it with disks.

Pic related is what I've bought so far (CPU, HDD, PSU) and what I'm so far planning on buying.
Anybody with a taichi that can suggest some good RAM?

Samsung EVO 850 500GB
or
Intel 540S 480GB?

The evo is cheaper.

I want reliability over all else. The drive will host games only (OS is on another drive).

Samsung 850 Evo. Intel SSDs are shit.

I asked because [spoiler] you used a Daiz pic.

>I want reliability over all else. The drive will host games only (OS is on another drive).
what a waste of an SSD.

It should be the other way around, have the OS on the fastest drive and games on the other drive.
