I think this is an issue that's better resolved at the technological level rather than the policy level. Our best bet is to bake net neutrality into our infrastructure through things like Tor and i2p. Your ISP can't regulate your traffic if they can't tell what it is.
Ayden Powell
Your ISP can block all traffic that doesn't match a throttling rule.
Jonathan Davis
True, but what I mentioned is the first step towards mitigating this sort of thing. I'm sure we could figure out how to work around that shit too.
Jason Martin
No, what you mentioned is the first step in initiating a state-sanctioned arms race between a few shitposters on the internet and multibillion dollar businesses who can dedicate massive teams to combat every clever trick you find.
This is exactly the kind of thing that needs to be taken care of at the policy level
Adrian Young
>tfw my isp doesnt block anything , tpb works

Can't wait till this shit is repealed and Reddit frogs go back. Didn't see any of these posts for the last few weeks, but DAMN they raided us hard this week. It'll blow over.
Eli Price
In my mind I wasn't quite imagining Sup Forums doing it haha. You're right about the resources big business bring to the table though—I can see how that would make anybody hesitant about dealing with this head on. Think of this as an incentive based problem though. If you offer up a technology that provides additional utility as well as native anonymization, you'll draw more users and devs that can help maintain the project. A less retarded version of ETH with proper sharding running on top of Tor might be a possible solution, but I might also just be huffing too many memes.
Thomas Flores
Don't ever state your opinion on anything related to tech or politics ever again you inbred white trash.

Most of these ones were made in I think 2014 or 2015 on /r9k/ during a mass OC surge called "poo-poo Pepe". It was inspired by Pepe increasingly being promoted and used on normalfag social media sites. The theory was that if they made a bunch of shocking and extremely offensive images, Pepe would be seen as disgusting and scare people away from him, and as a bonus, Sup Forums tourists would be revolted from the site. Wasn't a bad idea, but in reality normalfags didn't steal OC directly from Sup Forums anyways, they just got it from Reddit. Redditors simply ignored all the shocking posts and stole everything else, acting as a filter. In the end, the whole movement had a negative impact on Sup Forums because it brought in a huge influx of edgy stormfags who didn't realize people were only pretending to be retarded. I'd say it was on par with gamergate as far as it's total effect on killing Sup Forums. Every year less and less people realize Pepe wasn't always "le meme frog".
Isaac Nguyen
Just use a VPN. >but le ISP blocks VPN Dropped, get a different one.
Henry Gomez
You've submitted (1) post without an argument. Would you like to correct this? [Y/N]
Andrew Sanchez
>America >get a different ISP
Silly goy.
Owen Johnson
This is what libertarians actually believe
It has to be done at the policy level because ISPs will simply refuse service to any technology which doesn't conform to their scam's rules.
Nathaniel Cruz
>Getting a different ISP
Thanks for the kek, Euro-user.
Grayson Morris

a) Less regulation is always better for the market. b) My obfuscated vpn is indistinguishable from ssl traffic. They cant block it. c) There is nothing wrong with milking out tech illiterate normies.
Gabriel Thomas
>Less regulation is always better for the market. Religious tripe. Fuck the market, what about the users? >My obfuscated vpn is indistinguishable from ssl traffic. They cant block it. Some Ciscofag was on a few days ago proving you wrong. They can be distinguished through timing. >There is nothing wrong with milking out tech illiterate normies. There is nothing wrong with killing Randites, rentiers and parasites. Prove me wrong.

Go back to Sup Forums where your sad little narrative due to Horatio Alger (a known pedo, btw) has any value. >Even Chink regime cant ban vpns. Banning doesn't mean preventing. To think that the law actually changes reality is serious tween shit. Also, doesn't ≠ can't. Return on investment, nigger.

Tor can be blocked without using experimental work arounds, and the political machine it's always working on banning non backdoored encryption Sup Forums supports it since 2011 at the earliest, guess what you have always been
Jacob Hughes
can I spam this elsewhere op pls?
Angel Bennett
Just know that this clusterfuck would have been avoided if faggot lower level politicians didn't allow ISPs to have a monopoly in their area. But because practically every major allows this bullshit we have no other ISPs to choose from, thus we're susceptible to easy fuckery.
Cooper Robinson
You're not funny
Ayden Adams
Back to r/The_Donald's discord with you preteen.
Caleb Sullivan
Internet services are too prevalent at this point for ISPs to play big bully on them. Skype was fucking tiny back in 2007. At this point the only reason companies like Netflix don't want neutrality gone is because neutrality is anti-competitive. They don't want to risk their behemoths being outperformed by smaller, faster services.
Jaxson Scott
Nope. We're making a point.
Ethan Wood
I can accept that as long as Trump is allowed to keep winning.
Jeremiah Rivera
>Anything bad can happen as long as my hero wins in the end
This is cult behavior.
John Hernandez
>NN >anti-competitive plz explain
Christopher Williams
Neutrality isn't anti-competitive. The ISPs are anti-competitive, which is why they have monopolies in most states. We wouldn't need net neutrality if it weren't for those regional monopolies.
Don't believe me? Go to your ISPs website and enter in a zipcode from another nearby state and see if they offer service there.
Jaxson Wilson
Man you don't know what it was like before Trump came along. SJWs were taking over everywhere. Homosexuality was rampant, as was all sorts of degeneracy. Any one who dared speak out was outcast and even physically assaulted. Trump changed all of that. If he wants to deregulate the internet then I am OK with it.
Evan Hernandez
because obviously comcast and centurylink are competitors and if they have to play by more rules then they are disadvantaged
Owen Ortiz
Serious question:
In the case the whole thing turns out like you say (packages for specific websites and such), can a VPN circumvent this, or are they also planning to slow down all encrypted traffic?
By the way, how do they plan to implement such a massive deep packet inspection scheme? Sounds EXPENSIVE as fuck.
Jack Harris
>By the way, how do they plan to implement such a massive deep packet inspection scheme? Sounds EXPENSIVE as fuck.
If they wanted to do that they could easily get the government to pay for it under the guise of developing some kind of "anti-terrorism" system/program.
Brayden Foster
I wasn't born in 2017 user. Trump was never the answer to the Left problem. He was just a distraction.
Just wait until those "Internet Deregulations" allow your ISP to filter out websites that support anti-left ideas or block websites like Sup Forums unless you pay a Freedom Fee™.
Jordan Price
High barriers-to-entry are good for large established businesses.
Nathaniel Kelly
>High barriers-to-entry But NN prevents telecoms from establishing those for internet businesses.
Ayden Fisher
They could just throttle ALL kinds of encrypted traffic, then force anyone who wants to use encrypted traffic to pay extra.
They already got monopoly, you don't have a choice of using different ISP.
Alexander Lee
not an argument
Robert Bennett
So history would suggest that Net Neutrality is a good thing to prevent ISPs from screwing everybody over. Has anyone provided any reasons why removing Net Neutrality would be a good thing for consumers? I haven't come across any rational arguments yet.
Camden Reyes
Net Neutrality prevents paid prioritization. For Google to pay for high priority would cost them a fortune, but smaller-scale services could play a much smaller amount and boast a better service.
Right now Google can be as big and bloated as they want and never have to worry about that biting them on the ass, creating a feedback loop where having the most users is only beneficial as a draw for more users, and stifling out other competitors. For entities like Twitter that can barely support their costs as it stands, this effect is probably the only thing keeping them afloat.
Net Neutrality is one of the causes for the internet becoming incredibly "tall" over recent years, with people all being funneled into mega-services instead of distributed across small communities like they used to be.
James Sanchez
>I disagree with anything even slightly liberal even if it's good for me! pure comedy

>MetroPCS tried to block all streaming except youtube I remember that. What a fucking mess that was. No vimeo, no spotify, no gfycat, nothing. Just fucking YouTube. Fucking hell what a nightmare
Logan Murphy
I read that guy wrong but point still stands, netflix has the clout and cash to pay for prioritization (and already has done and is doing so). I don't believe they care about NN as much as they say they do
Lincoln Price
> For Google to pay for high priority would cost them a fortune, but smaller-scale services could play a much smaller amount and boast a better service.
This is total bullshit. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Ayden Brooks
Your girl lost libtards. Elections have consequences.
Jaxon Rogers
As the internet grows, so will the censorship. It sucks, but it's already happening without the majority realizing. Evidence; Twitter censoring #CnnBlackmail
Brody Diaz
>This is total bullshit. You have no idea what you are talking about. This is total bullshit. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Gavin Davis
And Twitter supports NN. Really activates one's almonds.
Isaac Diaz
>For Google to pay for high priority would cost them a fortune, but smaller-scale services could play a much smaller amount and boast a better service.
Are you seriously implying that telecoms will charge less for small companies to recieve better service than large companies even though those large companies already provide far more services to the telecoms' customers?
Jordan Reyes
It's not a consequence that liberals voted for, so you cannot put the blame on them.
Clinton sucked balls, but Trump also cheated. Did I have any say in that? Nope. The DNC just hands me a shit sandwich and tells me to eat it every 4 years.
Asher Jackson
This really is a bipartisan issue. We can't have the net locked down as a pay-to-play environment. It will kill the internet and people will have to go outside and get to know their neighbors to have fun.
Joseph Young
Every liberal shithole companies supports it because they want to ruin the internet with their anti-right wing/propertarian bullshit. Silicon valley was a mistake. Trump is going to bring all those jobs back to actual America.
Dominic Morales
bretty much this
Isaac Cruz
Btw, didn't Verizon just acquired Yahoo? What are the chance Verizon start throttling or outright blocking use of other non-Yahoo service?
Samuel Baker
I think people saying that are just here to mess with everyone. Sup Forums has been invaded by who knows and they are just here to fuck with everyone. Just like CTR and shareblue during the elections.
Anthony Cruz
r/T_D has a pretty good thread about this. You faggots should read it.
Nicholas Nelson
>look as I shoot myself in the head in hope the bullet hit a liberal
Ryan Bell
Which costs an ISP more, to lease out a 10 mb/s priority lane or a 10tb/s priority lane?
Nathan Bennett
neither
Evan Morris
>using the smiley with a carat nose
Carter Flores
How do you remember to breath?
John Young
Neither, you imbecile.
Chase Williams
There is no cost. It's about profits.
Austin Russell
The bytes per second cost the exact same no matter what. It's the infrastructure that costs money, the cables themselves. Once they're up, there is no difference between a terabyte a second and a megabyte.
Landon Garcia
What fucking drugs are you on?
Josiah Wood
If it costs nothing why doesn't everyone in the world get infinite free internet?
There are limitations to the infrastructure itself, fast lanes consume a portion of the infrastructure, infrastructure has scarcity like literally everything else in existence, therefore using it has a cost.
Frankly I'm astonished that this has to be explained at all. Am I in a thread full of teenagers?
Asher Sanders
Because capitalism. They only built the infrastructure because they knew that the government was going to give them a monopoly on it (as well as pay for a huge percentage of the actual costs). It's called "rent seeking."
Isaac Brooks
> even chink regimes cant ban vpns But they are about to dumbass. Havent you been reading the news? Frontpage of Sup Forums had this exact thing on for a couple hours yesterday. Go back to 9gag damn thai ladyboy
Joseph Ramirez
If you were an adult you would realize reapealing NN would only work in a proper free market, not the ISP monopoly scenario the US has. :^)
Wyatt Bailey
Have we really sunk so low as to use "Hitler ate sugar" types of arguments? I expected better.
Henry Evans
As long as Trump is in charge I don't mind.
Michael Lewis
Forgot the one where Verizon blocked texts that people explicitly signed up for, from an abortion group, because it was controversial. Block them if it's unsolicited and you're done, block it because *you* don't like it? Fuck you.
Juan Butler
I didn't say they should NOT charge per byte. I'm implying that they should not have different prices for different speeds. Everyone should pay a baseline price and that's it.
Of course they have to charge for the service, because otherwise they would make no profit on the cables. My point is that it's pointless and dishonest to act like max bandwidth is suddenly costing them more than 2 MB/s.
It's just like pic related.
Jason Jenkins
>ask incredibly simple question >response is a breaking bad video and literally "Because capitalism" ITT: Actual underage.

Pretty fucking high. I hope you fuckers like using Yahoo as your search engine of choice and tumblr for your social media, because if you're in Verizon territory, you might not get much else.
Elijah Johnson
