Computer Monitor Recommendation Thread

I want a good monitor for around 500 to 700€. Im using it for gayming and programming / other productivity.

Which of these memes are worth their money?
>Ultrawide
>1440p, 2160p
>144Hz
>Adaptive Sync (G-Sync / FreeSync)
>IPS, VA, pseudo-IPS

What's a good all around monitor, Sup Forums? Why are so many panels shit?

>why are so many panels shit?

AU optronics

what are the best reasonably priced 4k panels out? Looking for maybe 27" freesync for when vega comes out

Looking into a new monitor myself,

G-Sync optional, but wanting a 144Hz 1080p monitor. Don't need much more than that.

I just bought a ASUS VC239H recently.

Why is everything so white and yellow?

This is awful.

It works better using dvi or vga but using HDMI is awful.

Ultrawide is basically just having multiple monitors without the bezels, but it's too expensive.

1440p is amazing, 4k is not worth the extra money over 1440p (nor the horsepower required to drive it)

120hz+ is all you should be considering if you want to game.

Adaptive Sync is designed by fags, for fags.
Don't bother with basing your monitor choice around it.

IPS is pretty good, but adjusting the colors on a cheaper panel is a much better option for FPS gaming.

Any monitor can be somewhat decent if you aren't a lazy fuck. Just take the time to adjust it until it looks good to you.

I just bought the 34 inch Samsung VA ultrawide.
100Hz, Is a really big improvement from 60hz, Like Dragging windows around is so smooth. .
Going from a 1440p IPS to VA didn't make any big differences in terms of viewing angles from where I 'm sitting.

Can you recommend specific models or vendors?

>Adaptive Sync is designed by fags, for fags
Got some reasons why it's not worth? Main argument seems to be that G-Sync costs about 100$ and narrows down the monitor choices

Any vendors that don't use their panels?

Try setting the HDMI output to full range instead of limited in your gpu drivers.

I bought the u3415w. Form factor is great. Not too much a meme.

Acer XR series and predator lineup I think. Using an xr342ck right now with LG panel and don't even have any IPS bleed, just a little glow at the bottom corners.

Anyone here have a 240 hz

I love ulmb/strobing, so smooth and no blur.

Sup Forums, pls answer:
1 big monitor
vs.
3 normal monitors
3 big monitors
Depends on what you mean by 'big' and 'normal'

Like 30"+ for "big", and 22" for "normal"

Its not one of those panel types but the Dell S2716DG fufils the rest at a good price. The TN panel on it is widely considered excellent.

Looking to get a gaming monitor, mostly so I can use 1440p at 1ms

Gsync preference I guess since some games will run like shit and the tearing associated with low fps will fucking ruin my game (Arma 3)

I think Dell has a decent priced one

You could get 2x27 as a middle ground. Or at least 24. 22 is tiny these days.

Currently on a 22" 16:10 monitor, thinking of a ultra wide... I'm mostly just a little worried that 34" might be too big for my setup... and i could play it safe with a 29"

Just ordered a Acer XF270HUA. Wish me luck in the panel lottery.

40"+ UHD IPS is king of programming monitors, and they've actually become near affordable for the masses.

No 120+ Hz or variable sync, but great in most other regards.

Buy a TV. Srs.

You can get a used top of the line Samsung quantum dot TV 60" 4k 120hz used for around €600. Will literally be bigger and look better than any monitor out there.

The ppi will be shit, at that size around 75, but that's okay. You can afford to sit an extra 15-20 inches away.

Do response times matter at all? Is there any noticable difference between 5ms and 1ms?

response times that low:
- don't mean shit for display "lag" feel
- just mean how little time within a frame (16.6 ms for 60 Hz, 8.3 ms for 120 Hz, ...) it takes a pixel to change from one color to (close enough to) a target color, on average, which just means how little frame ghosting effect remains

are 120/144hz monitors a meme for non competitive gaymers? Need a new monitor as i both game(non competitive) and draw on my screen, is the Ultrasharp U2414H good enough for gaymen and content creation? Also thinking of Viewsonic XG2401 as they say it has good display for a 144hz monitor and is pretty cheap. Budget is 250usd

>Ultrawide
It's good as long as you're getting at least 1440 lines of resolution. Anything below that is almost as bad as Full HD.

>144Hz
Good, but I personally don't think it's worth the premium today. If you're playing a lot of FPS it could definitely be worthwhile.

>Adaptive sync
Also good, but I haven't been hugely impressed by the demos. I don't usually mind tearing unless it's super bad. If you're already running >60 FPS, my opinion is that tearing isn't too noticeable.

>IPS
IPS and variants (PLS, etc) are the only way to go for anything you'll be using for productivity. (Excluding OLED which is way more than 700€).

Personally I run the old Dell 3007WFP-HC and I'm happy. Though wide gamut is kind of shit unless you have a specific need for such - I end up having to crank the gamma on a lot of games because my monitor can display SO MANY levels of near-black. I would recommend you go for a monitor with near 100% coverage of the sRGB gamut (not Adobe RGB).

As far as I'm aware there are no TVs with true 120Hz support (in other words, they will only accept a 60Hz or 24Hz signal input).

Ultrawide apparently is. I personally like it from what I saw of demos, but I don't like the curved screen bullshit.

>1440p
Wouldn't go for an ultrawide under this resolution.

>2160p
Kinda memey. Considering you're often paying like double the price, I don't think it's worth it.

>144hz
definitely worth it. Biggest deal out of the options

Personally I'm looking for:

120-144hz, 1440p ultrawide, not curved, vesa mount option, freesync (preferably freesync 2) and good contrast

I don't think my perfect monitor exists yet.

Yes and no

You WILL notice a difference. Especially if you can compare side by side or you use 144hz for awhile and then use a 60hz or god forbid 30hz and you'll be like "holy fuck how can people stand this?"

It's not just vidya, it's everything. Moving the mouse around, typing, dragging windows; it all just feels better.

>Anything for productivity
Not just productivity. Enhances entertainment too. I have a TN monitor next to my IPS and the difference is huge.

I have a pre-order on the Nixeus EDG 27
(newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZW5F71608)

It has everything I want for $430

-IPS
-1440p
-144hz
-Freesync
-27 inches
-A good panel and build quality

But god is the bezel fucking huge, more than just normal. And the stand is meh and I don't use monitor arms

I'm spending a lot of time just looking for an alternative. Nothing has all those features at that price point, not to mention it's the only 144hz monitor that has Freesync that works at 144hz

One alternative is an LG 27UD68P-B 27"
(newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025374)

-IPS
-2160p
-60hz
-Freesync
-27 inches
-Factory calibrated

I don't care about 4K really, I won't game on that resolution anyways.

This is a big investment for me. The panel's color quality is the most important part, but I also still play FPS games often. I'm gonna be looking at this display for several years.

The curved edges are ugly. That said, I have a Dell U2717D with close to zero bezel and I've learned it really makes no difference to me.

The Acer XF270HU is pretty close to the same thing, only one big bezel on the bottom, the other 3 sides are pretty slim. Otherwise I think their freesync range is 40-144 rather than 30-144.

Also Microcenter has them for $400, so almost the same price.

How's the gamut? I'm a bit wary of Acer stuff

and the color? im seeing good reviews of xg2401 and while not as good as ips quality, still pretty good colors with proper calibration

refresh rate doesn't have anything to do with color

>IPS and variants (PLS, etc) are the only way to go

AMVA+ panels would like to have a chat with you.

Most Sony ones take 120hz

I'm waiting for
>4k
>120-144Hz
>Freesync
>QLED, OLED or something equivalent
>~30"
>~$1000

Planning on doing three 24inchers in a config like this. How stupid is this idea?

Gay unless you code a ton.

I think it's 100% sRGB if I recall correctly.

Terrible for your neck, unless you have a tall desk

Super stupid. For the price of those three 24s you could buy a nice high-res single monitor and have no bezels and no color mismatch nor viewing angle issues.

tn panels are fast but has shit color reproduction

Ultrawide is great. My next monitor will be ultrawide.
1440p is good. 4k is the next standard, though. Consider how long you expect to use this monitor for. I saved a little because I plan on my next monitors being ultrawide 4k models.
144hz rules. My next monitor will be 144/over 90fps.
IPS is cool but I'm not sure if it still has issues with whites (they're too bright and result in some unfortunate glare, it's annoying on websites with black backgrounds and white text) but you're really looking at specific panels. You can't compare monitors by the tech they use. You want to go to a website like tftcentral.co.uk/reviews.htm and compare monitors there. I use them when I'm buying monitors. Haven't found a better website yet.
Avoid matte finishes if possible, they affect your colors.

I think this is a good alternative especially since it's so cheap on micro center

it's OK, but a 40" UHD with a tiling window manager is better in every way, including probably even price at this point.

>mfw I make 2000€/month
>mfw I use a shitty LG IPS 24'+thinkpad t460
I still don't get why anyone is buying these overpriced shit if you can get a Dell Monitor for 230€ 1920x1080 fucking awesome.
JUST

I've got the LG 27UD58 (slightly older model, same panel with more bezel) and colours are great. Backlight bleed isn't an issue at all, and it came with a sheet with all the measurements done for your monitor (color temp variation, color difference, gamma etc). Input lag isn't noticeably different coming from a 1ms TN, but I don't play shooters so YMMV.

citation please. (pic related)

Is there any reason not to use a cheap 4k TV?

expertreviews.co.uk/pc-monitors/1406032/acer-xf270hua-review-the-best-gaming-monitor-on-the-market

Dude. That's shorty stuff.

Check all of the 8000series from Samsung above 8600.

They'll usually brand it TrueMotion or TrumotionPro or some shit. But it's actually there. I got the 8800 myself and I'm supporting off of it.

It will only be on the high end TV's not the mid-range 1080p crap from 5 years ago.

step aside plebs

120Hz is not supported on the HDMI input of nearly all 4K TV's. The panel may be 120Hz but you are fooling yourself if you think plugging your gaming PC into one will get you 120Hz gaming.

Trumotioon and it's ilk on other brnads is interpolation. It takes a lower framerate source and tries to guess what the intermediate frames would look like and creates fake frames to improve motion. This inherently introduces motion artifacts where it makes mistakes. SOme algorithms such as Sony's are better than others at it.

I'm interested in this, looking for a really big ass monitor because I'm an eyelet.

Preferably 40"+ and 4k, seems like the best option is getting a tv, but some say things look like shit on tvs if you want o use it as a monitor,

The problem is with Windows shitty scaling implementation. Text tends to get fuzzy if you scale it up. If you don't then text can be to small to read clearly.

Dell S2716DG then faggot

If a monitor has a DisplayPort out (mst) can you go laptop->monitor->dvi adapter->monitor 2?

input lag

If this came in ultrawide, I'd buy it.

Is LG 27UD88 good if I don't give a fuck about gaming? Want to upgrade to a nice 4K monitor for programming.

40" 4k is the only real choice

youtube.com/watch?v=8L1cz1Hr6Hs

damn that looks comfy

nobody lists input lag on tv specs. wth a bunch don't even list panel type

Yeah, and it's fucking criminal because it's one of THE most important specs for a monitor.

You need to get independent and in-depth reviews to get that kind of info.

Isn't samsung usually pretty good at low input lag? Just remember at least one model being solid for gaming.

All the manufacturers have shitty models.

The only surefire way to know is to to read reviews.

Never go off the brand name.

Ebay. 32" 4k ips freesync

lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UD68-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor

Anyone know if this is any good?

see the letter at the end just means it's Black or White

such as?

Crossover makes a solid 32" 4K display, but I think it was a TN panel maybe, probably not.

Just check Tek Syndicate and Level 1 Techs for Korean monitor reviews.

there you got your answer
/thread
good night

>bezels are thicker than half an inch

>thicker than 1/4 inch

>you can see the bezel

>32"
>4k

Not sure about it desu

>2160p
you need a 1080ti for that.

>144Hz
meme

>gsync
expensive go for freesync

>pseudo ips
wat.
go for va, ah-ips, or oled.

>dude you need a 1080ti for that
>but dude go for freesync because gsync is excessive
Absolutely Genius

>Adaptive Sync is designed by fags, for fags.

What kind of retard are you? Gaming at higher fps without adaptive sync is a fucking nightmare full of screen tearing or lag with v-sync.

You know that shit isn't actually 120Hz right?

>tfw 32UD99 keeps getting delayed
>tfw LG C7 has a 200-300% markup here

Could use a recommendation that fits this criteria please:

- $350 or under (preferably about $300)
- 24 inches or under
- not sure about hz but it'll be for gaming

1 big monitor
The bezels are something that I cant stand

144hz is a meme. Can hardly tell difference between it and 60. Anyone else agree?

I've only ever seen it in action once, briefly. People say it's great but I'd rather have a higher resolution, ignorance is bliss I guess.

>Has no bezel
>Pixels are half an inch from bezel anyhow
>Zero frame is a meme

Why do they do this?

The sony 850e is 120 native

Check rtings

Yep. They also say their TN panel looks great. "Looks just like an ips calibrated".

Then again I don't play fps so I don't care. I'd rather have a nice looking screen with plenty of space.

anyone got some suggestions?

Please some ultrawide suggestions

Use cashbackmonitor.com for Dell outlet. Should be 10% cash back on one of them.

wait for hdr 10+ monitors

I prefer dell to lg but otherwise the perfect setup to get work done

I've never even seen 60 before
