CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560/G4600 - Budget builds (R5 1400 - Cheapest quad core you can get (Ryzen 3 soon)
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - Only for 144hz
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any

Choosing parts for my 10 year old cousin
Should I get her LG 24MP48HQ-P or Asus - VP228TE as monitor.

Basically 1080p 1ms TN 75hz 21.5 inch or 1080p 5ms IPS 60hz 24 inch for 30 euros more?

Anything I should know about these particular monitors like if they may have problems or flickering or dead pixels or smth? Just want a solid cheap 1080p monitor

pcpartpicker.com/list/7yw4WX amd
Or
pcpartpicker.com/list/QLDgWX intel?

pls no master race reddit shit here

Hey gang built my 1st PC a couple months ago, I have a MSI Tomahawk b350, GTX 1060, and a ryzen 5 1600. Things were going good but recently it hasn't been recognizing the monitor. The screen just remains black as the CPU debug light pops on on the mobo. Any ideas on whats going on? Thanks buds

>X brand or Y brand
Doesn't matter
>7700k or r7 1700
Depends on usage

How much of a difference does RAM speed even make anyways? I want to buy an entry level workstation rig but I'm tight on cash right now so I'm thinking about just buying 8 GB RAM now and adding 8 more later, but most of the RAM I find that's 3000 or 3200 mHz only comes in 2x8 configuration and not 1x8. The highest I can find in 1x8 is 2666 mHz.

Going to get either Ryzen 3 or 5 and use the PC for
Lightroom, Premiere, some light Photoshopping, Ableton Live and some gaming but I don't really give a shit about the gaming performance as long as it's good enough.

Any problems with not using an I/O shield?

I'm getting a GA-Z97-HD3 and a few other things for free, but it don't come with that. I could order one, but it takes a whole month to arrive.

how bad are built in monitor speakers

Game development, especially vr, and maxed settings gaming with no dips or stuttering 144fps at 1080p and 60fps at 1440p

how many slots? could go 2x4

Game developement usually implies compilation and multi-tasking (involving multiple CPU heavy software running at the same time) so the cores are extremely beneficial there
VR games usually are very well optimized because they pretty much have to be: shit frametimes or framerates and the player will throw up in no time. So those usually don't have that much problem spreading on 8+ threads
And the extra cores do help a lot when it come to frametimes / fps drops as having the game's load spread on 16 threads (though it'll generally be at 10 or 12) allows the CPU to never reach 100% in one thread which would cause stutter and sudden FPS drop
Problem though, a 7700k will be noticeably closer to 144hz than an R7 1700. It doesn't mean it will be at 144hz constantly though, as even the best gaming CPU has a hard time achieving that framerates on AAAs, but it does reach it better than an R7 1700.

anyone know which 1080ti brand produces the least noise at full load?

I was thinking of going with the strix 1632 MHz

Not really. The fans won’t be pulling in right next to it so it won’t make a huge difference dust-wise. Might need to be a little more careful plugging things in I guess. If you do order one you’ll have to pull the mobo out to install it.

Fuck, I'm not sure I can spend 2k+ on a pc that can't even run games at 144fps at 1080p

If you need a good PC why aren't you prioritizing the CPU? Get the 1800x there is no excuse, you can cheap out something else but get the better cpu.

Pretty bad, for most models. I still prefer monitors that have them because you can use it as an audio switch when using multiple computers at one display, but I wouldn’t use them long term.

You can get a pair of Micca MB42X speakers and a reasonableish amp for ~$150 or less, and that will be exceptional for 90% of use cases

Thanks to distributors bundling CPUs with GPUs I just got myself a 1700x for $260 CA. What's a decent cooler under $100?

Gaize we are da master race xdxd

...r-right reddit?

The way it was explained to me is the 1800x is the same thing after i oc

Because why the fuck are you spending 300 usd on a case??

m.2 disk
meme gayming motherboard
liquid cooling
muh ram
super efficent PSU

This doesn't make your PC faster, I bet you're wasting 700 usd here you could make a SLI 1080 ti system with less retarded picks

Well that's why I'm here, to get help picking less retarded things

nah im talking about a budget build like 550$
should I just get a monitor with built in speakers or like 20$ separate ones

Noctua NH-D15

What the fuck is this. I paid $343 CAD for a fucking 1600

I got really lucky. I was originally gonna buy a 1600 as well and saw the price drop on Newegg so I checked ebay and saw a few 1700's going for $330ish and then this morning saw the 1700x for that price and snagged it up.

for case just get a define r5 or phantex evolv or something
psu u dont really need platinum
idk if u need 32 gb ram but pretty sure u can find cheaper 3200 ram
the motherboard I mean why just why get some 100$ one or something
liquid cooling yeah good luck sleeping at night with that just get air cooling
get normal ssd no need for the newer ones

Is this good ?

ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 Strix 6GB
AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2
Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2
Seagate Barracuda 2TB
COOLERMASTER MasterCase MasterBox 5
Asus PRIME X370-PRO

Guys I wan to upgrade my monitors. I currently have two HP 25es's and they were dirt cheap but I want more. Recommendations for a dual monitor setup with a thousand dollar budget.,

>seagate

Also loading it into PC part builder and sharing the link makes it easier to eye things and follow links

looks nice except that I don't udnerstand why you chose such an expensive motherboard.

Is this thread only for "gamer pcs"? Because I want to built a small homelab server that hosts several VMs. Are we at a point right now where I could actually eyeball AMD cpus? Is ryzen compatible with esxi?

How do I find computer parts on sale? Leaf btw

new or used?

new

Is the step by step guide for assembly in wiki on the OP good? Am I safe to follow this for a first time build?

ca.pcpartpicker.com/
They'll tell you if there's incompatibilities in your build, for the most part, and give you the cheapest current price for anything in your build and where to get it.

how good is this build? My budget is around $600

>AMD Ryzen 5 1400 3.6ghz
>Sapphire Pulse RX 560 4gb
>MSI B350M gaming pro motherboard
>Fury X 8gb DDR4 2666 mhz RAM
>1TB 3.5 7200 RPM SATA 3
>Evga BV 500 PSU

It should be alright for me to cheap on the case right? as long as I use ATX casing

I would grab a 2GB RX 560. It isn't powerful enough to make use of the extra vram. You can put the money saved into a more expensive case which will make building easier.
On a budget, I recommend the Corsair Carbide series. Pic related is just one of the cases in that series. You can commonly find them from $39 to $70.

The ram should be a 2x4 kit btw

>no informations about shipping
what the hell.

how bad are referb hard drives, the referb hitachi's seem like a cheapish way to get decent large drives

>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
What does this mean? Is the rx 560 trash?

You never know how badly its been thrashed and most people don't like to risk data loss.

Hows this instead

pcpartpicker.com/list/rL4bgL

yes

i7-6850Ks are going for $299.99 at Micro Center with a $40 discount on X99 boards (that are already on sale)

its your money waste them however you want

Why?

Is the point of this thread to snidely snipe at people or build pcs come on senpai

no it's shit

Thinking about building a Mini ITX Ryzen machine. Love the look and size of the Node 202.

Anyone else do a Mini ITX? Pros/cons?

pcpartpicker.com/list/qJ3YGf
Should I replace the 1060, or just wait until they're back in stock/lower price

Are the "Mini" versions of GeForce GTX series any different than normal ones? they seem to cost almost the same, except they look smaller.

That's quite a computer.
I'd stick with the R7 1700 for CPU. It can be overclocked to the same point an 1800X can.
Your case... well, it's your money. Suffice to say there are lots of reasonable cases to be found for under $120. Fuck, there are reasonable cases for under $60.
You probably don't need more than 650W in the PSU unless you are planning to go multi-GPU in the future.

I'm confused, what exactly is your budget? You're posting builds from 1k to 3k range.

I made this pcpartpicker.com/list/Xw7LTH

I thought your budget was 2,7k, well this one has 2 GTX 1080 ti's and it can run 4k 60 fps but it guarantee 1440k at fps too. If it's too much you could delete one card, or get 2 GTX 1080 SLI which is better than one GTX 1080 ti.

get a cheaper motherboard, a less efficient psu, and a cheaper case. also a 1080ti is way fucking overkill for 1080p gayming at any refresh rate. get a 1080 instead.

>bitching about the 1060
That's NOT the problem with your build. The problem is the CPU and motherboard. Grab an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and a B350 motherboard. You get more for your money.
>Muh FPS
that argument can only be used with the i7 7700k because it's the only one the Ryzen chips can't outperform in gaming and even then the difference is small.

why not spring for a 1600 now?

Pros:
It's small
Cons:
Smaller selection of parts
limited expandabilty
Thermals are not ideal, can be loud if using high power components

Ok I forgot the storage, I just made it quick so you can improve things, I even picked overpriced shit to match 2,7k...

Give the credit card back, Jamal

Im planning to sli eventually. I don't know anything about cases so I've just been picking cases that look cool and have enough room for sli tis and more hdds in the future. Any suggestions would be helpful.

My budget is floating around 2-3k but obviously id like to maximize performance reasonably if i can. Ill check out your build.

Im going to sli in the near future and will be upgrading to a 4k display before the end of the year.

because of his budget dipshit. Even I'm not going to tell someone on a $600 budget to get a 1600. The money would be better spent elsewhere. The 1400 is a fine Ryzen entry. It's got a solid upgrade path and a long life.

Why would you do a half-PCIe ITX Ryzen?
Just wait for Raven Ridge, because you're fucked for GPU options

I got a mobo with only one x16 PCIe slot.
Are there any adapters I can use to enable SLI? like some kind of splitter/extender.

Reminder for anyone buying AMD right now and worried about GPU prices that there are several 8GB 580+1700x deals on newegg right now for $600-$630. They are also currently in stock.

I want to build a librebootable desktop. Which motherboard should I use? I want something 64 bit perferably quad core.

Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L motherboard
Intel D510MO motherboard
ASUS KCMA-D8 motherboard
Intel D945GCLF
ASUS KFSN4-DRE motherboard
ASUS KGPE-D16 motherboard

Don't take the EVGA BV series. It's a trash-tier PSU.
There are PSUs that are cheap and substantially better. If your budget is tight look at the Seasonic S12II series. They can be had for around 30-40 and are rock solid.

>Im planning to sli eventually.
I'm going to give you some very painful, and confusing information.
Multi-GPU setups are a joke. They will oftentimes not work properly, and when they do, they scale awfully. Neither NVIDIA, AMD/ATI or the devs coding the games ever worked out a way to make it reasonable from the very beginning, and they are increasingly falling out of favor.
I'd strongly advise against doing SLI. It is, frankly, a sham. Put the money in an S&P 500 instead, and you'll be just as happy.

listen to this user, he knows what he's talking about

>PC
>NOT USING MAC

PERSONAL COMPUTERS(windows) BTFO
hur hur :^)

I see. So without sli plans, just a singular 1080ti, i can jump down to a 650 gold psu and a smaller case probably? Ill fiddle around with my build and repost.

If a mobo has two x1 PCIe connectors, can I use a couple of x16 to x1 adapters (pic related) to use two GPUs in a SLI setup? will it work?

>a smaller case probably?
Yes. Here's another tidbit of broad computing trends: gigantic cases are going out of style. As components have become more efficient, we need to spend less effort on case cooling setups. Moreover, huge stacked drive cages are disappearing, as HDD sizes increase and data moves increasingly into the cloud.
Full Towers can be nice and roomy to work in, but there's scarce function in buying one anymore.

PSU efficiency always matters. If you want a Platinum or Titanium PSU, go for it. Likely a higher quality unit (but not always).

no

True, forgot to mention there are problems with SLI this is common knowledge, however it's the only way to hit 4k60fps currently when it works which it should in most modern PC native games, ports and "old" games are generally a problem.

I doubt even one card would work.
Why do you think its x16? Just for a lark? Can't have anything to do with the massive bandwidth requirements of graphics cards or anything...

>monitor
He's young just buy anything you feel is suitable. (Cheap) a 21 inch or less is more than enough
All part now days at reliable. Get the former. No need to waste money. It would take you less than an hour to research for yourself. If you wish. But go for the cheaper. Lg and Asus are quality.

Two weeks until the supposed Ryzen 3 release and we don't even have a recommended price?

less than the R5s

Building a computer is literally just putting together a more expensive and fragile Lego set. As long as you're not doing something like scooting your ass on a shag carpet in nylon shorts, you'll be fine and you can just play it by ear.

That's a funny way to type Reveal

Miner holocaust when

go to youtube and type "how to build a PC"

Not him, but I actually did just that wearing flip flops and occasionally grounding myself.

My main problems were my PSU's 20+4 connector was a bitch to plug in (twice because bench test), felt like I would snap the board in half, and installing the Wraith Spire with its stupid screws and even more pressure.

My mobo somehow took it all like a champ.

pcpartpicker.com/list/NDhHgL am I getting closer to something reasonable that will still do everything i want without compromises in performance?

Why are you insistent on an M.2? Why not use a regular SSD?

First time PCfat.
Is it generally better to buy a prebuilt desktop or build one?
I want to build one but I'm afraid to fuck up

Plugging in the power cable is honestly the most nerve wracking part of a build to me. Installing a cpu and cooler is easy shit, but I'm always afraid of snapping a board when plugging in or taking out a 20 pin cable.

The comparisons in read and write speed made them look twice as fast? But I've never owned an ssd before so I'm in new territory here

If you used to build Bionicles, you can build a computer.

You could probably get away with 16GB of RAM, or a B350 MB. Were I you, I'd use the savings to get the Samsung 960 PRO. At least there, you'd see some performance benefit. What is X370 really giving you? More USB ports?
I would take a 1700 over the 1700X if you intend to OC. They both overclock to the same place.

The EVO is NVME. Anything 2.5 is going to be held back by AHCI storage protocols and SATA bandwidth limitations.

/sqt/ derail for a second no bully:

is it possible to build your own laptop from scratch the same way you would a custom PC?

Is that why you doubled up on ram for your ryzen build? Looks like you've already made your decision

>If you used to build Bionicles
Then is it destiny? I pretty much owned every set.

Not really unless you go to a manufacturer.

And have fun paying out the wazoo if you want more customization than what they offer.

If it's just the components you are after, and never intend to upgrade, it's worth it just to buy pre-built. Usually cheaper, sometimes significantly.
If you like the idea of swapping all things in and out of your machine easily, better to build yourself.

I have barely any idea what I'm doing.

Just don't offload a million volts of static electricity when you touch something or snap anything in half, and you cannot fail.

just do research and watch a bunch of youtube videos. theres a bunch of tech yotube channels that show how to do it.
