Legacy. "If it ain't broke, I ain't gonna pay to redo it in a new format."

If you want to see less Flash in the world, go find every use of it out there and recode the implementation in HTML5 and/or whatever else. Then send it to the host. Maybe they'll take you up on your free work.

It literally kicks up my 2017 laptop fans every time it's enabled.

Steve Jobs killed flash a long time ago.

I've been writing python scripts to scrape data from broker's websites REST API that their Javascript uses, but one of these brokers still uses flash is there an easy way to figure out something similar to how their JS calls an API to get JSON, wondering how flash gets the data.

Disassemble the flash files ( typically .swf).

this discounts the fact that lots of websites use it

number 1 security problem on the internet imho

I've never seen a flash thing since 2013.

If the swf files can't be disassembled, consider forcing the app to go through a logging proxy.

Thanks guys I didn't think to even try to disassemble the swf. Now I got the API's url but there is no documentation on it and I tried making a direct request but the values that come back are meaningless so I guess somewhere in the swf code these values get decoded or something.

I honest to god miss the peak of flash because there was a lot of games and whatnot that was a lot of fun.
And the tools out there to do the same thing in HTML5 is not even vaguely as easy to get the same results.
Flash gave kids and the every man a way to make animations, games, etc without the a steap incline in learning, so becaues of that you saw a ton of shit get made you wouldn't have otherwise.

I'm rather surprised that there isn't a proper replacement for flash, not in the sense of a plugin, but a tool to author the same shit in HTML5+Canvas. I thought Adobe was suppose to be working on a thing that would output flash to HTML5, but that seems to have never happened.

Flash was fucking cancer. At least the timeline.

I did like Actionscript tho.

Flash is still used for games and occasionally use shockwave for early 00s vidya.

Eh, I had flash as prompt to activate since around 2004 or so (when did firefox 1.4 come out?). So it never bothered me much. Only ran what I wanted to run.

IIRC, it was supposed to die this yeat, but...

Just for linux

Yes, same problem. One of our legacy applications at work has its web log/monitor as a flash web page. I run 2 1440p monitors all day with the fan barely audible. As soon as that web page opens, though...

Is it?

Wireshark this bitch at the end it's gonna be a simple REST api.

how fast can you solve the autism cube, Sup Forums?

is it? i haven't used it for 8 years now

Because you people still couldn't get a major campaign for abolishment of software such as this one going. Citizens need to get informed, governments need to engage, companies need to have interests and knowledge in best practices.
Get going!

LMAO, Jobs hated Flash because it was a major threat to his walled garden app store, plus iGarbage couldn't run it without turning into a fire hazard.

because they haven't ported Gemcraft Labyrinth to HTML5 yet as far as i know.

Try self-awareness before yammering about walled gardens, Adobe shill. I'll blow your mind.

>I'll blow your mind.

More like blow your boyfriend's cock. Flash being closed source has nothing to do with this. The problem is that it enables bypassing Jobs' shit-ass app store tyranny.

isn't html5 faster for all types of pcs or just newer gen?

It's useful for testing vrms

You weren't using flash in 2009?

Heavily doubt that. It was still huge back then.

Man html5 made my i5 sandybridge shit itself all the time. It's a god damn meme.

Like DirectX, entire generations of programmers were brought up on it, so it's going to die very slowly as people transition out.

It'll still be supported though, because management paid for that website and they're not going to pay for it again.
