The state of laptop, 2017

What is the absolute best laptop available right now if money is no object?

some clevo/sager

Acer Predator 21 X.

That's not the ZBook Studio

That's pushing the definition of a laptop, isn't it.

It really can't reasonably placed on a person's lap.

True dat

OP's question is dumb to begin with. A stupid question gets a stupid answer.

Why is it dumb? I too am looking for a laptop to buy and everything seems shit.

>everything seems shit
It seems that way because it is

Acer Predator 21 X has the best gaming performance with GTX 1080 SLI which is also "best".
"Best" is a stupid description.

Precision 7720. Just click all the max options except leave the lowest HDD installed, buy an aftermarket 2 TB Samsung 960 NVME's (or 2, if you want to be sexy). The P5000 GPU with 4K screen is gorgeous and plays game like a 1070, and more reliable than a gayming laptop. 64 GB ECC means it is equivalent to a low-end server if you need to run a bunch of VMs. So, it plays games, develops like a boss, and has very good I/O. It is a fairly high end desktop workstation in a seven pound laptop.

Acer Predator 21 X is basically living proof that chinks have out-murica'd murica.
Not that it's a bad thing

The build and keyboard on the P71 is subjectively better than on the Dell. Same specs otherwise.

The HP ZBook G4 has an additional Thunderbolt port, but DESU, I have yet to use the one with the 7720. The Thinkpad P71 has a good price, but you have extra bulk to carry around a CDROM drive. Who's even seen a DVD in the last 4 years?

The last time I bought a Lenovo workstation, the plastic outer shell started to chip after just slightly rougher than usual use. Dell Precision has a very solid metal chassis. The P71 keyboard is definitely the best, but the 7720 keyboard does the job too.

*objectively
Also, God tier trackpoint.

>plastic got chipped
Which series Lenovo was it?

The best laptop is a laptop that needs two wall socket plugs, obviously. Also, if you whip out an Acer Predator 21X at a trendy coffee cafe, the cuties will point at you and laugh.

Zbook series is terrible in every way, stay away

>ECC
Ahh I miss the good ol' DDR2 days when ECC ram was dirt cheap because desktop users can't install them so supply >>> demand. Stick 16 of them in a 2 socket board for pennies, boom you get a beast of a space heater.

It was a W520. I hope they've fixed that, but it was sort of lame to have an expensive laptop that chips. I also have a T520 and it's well-nigh indestructible.

I just want a laptop with GOOD build quality fuck

Asus ROG Zephyr

I have an HP 14 G2. The lame keyboard on it sometimes fails to register keypresses, which is quite unfortunate. I have an HP 8770 which I call an 'aircraft carrier'. I haven't really played with the HP Zbook G3 - they're really expensive for what you get.

And they are going up in space to replace thinkpads. Fuck this gay earth

The T520 and W520 casings are completely identical. The only difference between the two is the motherboard.

Yup, that is strange. I was expecting an idea pad/L/E series thinkpad as an answer and am surprised that it was w series. T/W series (especially the old ones) are usually not known for their structural weaknesses

Lenovo (if you like CD's), or Dell. Choose one.

Thinkpad T series

Actually, not a T520, it's aT410, smaller screen. It also has some cracking in the plastic case, but at least pieces haven't come off yet. It's 7 years old.

this pretty much, if we are talking performance

HP has a 4k gaymen laptop with a GTX 1060/70/80

Studio ain't bad

Macbook

X1 Carbon 5th gen?

>Being comfy and generally shitposting
unironically any macbook

sadly, x200

but looking towards the future, if the libreboot guys can free the ME, I'd expect something like Purism to be the best.

if you don't want 100% autism get a 14" blade
