You are trolling or have not considered that Steam is a proprietary DRM distribution platform. Personally I trust Valve enough to run it on my computer.
Minetest is 10% of Minecraft gameplay, with terrible graphics performance.
In this context, Minecraft is a botnet because it's proprietary, shows ads, makes internet connections to Microsoft servers, and sends back system specs data (snooper settings). However, only the Oracle implementation of Java is a botnet. You can use OpenJDK under the package name openjdk-jre-8 (or 7 if your distro repo is outdated) to run Java apps. OpenJDK is FOSS.
