This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.

First for the glory of Daini Seikosha :^)
Ayden Ward
better:
Jacob Allen
Oh wow another steel day-date with stick indices!
What will Daini Seikosha come up with next!
Alexander Martinez
>What will Daini Seikosha come up with next! copying whatever Suwa Seikosha does
Parker Miller
All this arguing about 6R15s VS 2824s and no one mentions the fact the 2824 cannot use its hand wind function for extended use without breaking.
Think that kinda seals the deal
Ryder Reyes
I'm looking to buy a smart watch, budget is around $100, I want it to trach my health a little bit (i'm not a fitness nut but i like to know if im sleeping well) and I want it to maybe use an app or two for call answering and shit. Is this possible, or is it only a dream? recommendations?
Charles Hall
As it so happens, I'm pretty autistic in my preference for watches so steel cased date or day/date watches with baton indices and dauphine hands is like ~90% of the watches I like.
Besides, Daini was always more obsessed with movement design anyway.
Except for the part where all the movements eat themselves eventually.
Asher Kelly
>As it so happens, I'm pretty autistic
We know.
Isaiah Evans
If I wasn't, why the fuck would I hang around here to talk about watches? /wt/ is probably the single most autistic watch discussion on the internet.
Charles Robinson
>/wt/ is probably the single most autistic watch discussion on the internet.
Yeah this is true. After hanging out here and then talking to other watch people you seem pretty cynical. Also isn't great when someone shows you their omega and you have to stop yourself from sperging out about their shitty adoption of Daniels coaxial escapement and sub par finishing.
Joseph Thomas
Have you seen the Russian part of WUS?
Logan Morales
Does anyone have watch porn? Not some faggot Reddit shit where its a nice photo and they tag porn onto the category name. Like dudes fucking watches or watches fucking each other or something. Only looking for legal as well. No illegal bullshit.
Aaron Murphy
I've asked for the same. I never get good answers.
Asher Rogers
chinky chinky
Dominic Nelson
My first and only Soviet watch.
Jaxon Watson
that's hideous. especially on what could be such a good watch.
Noah Watson
How's the accuracy?
Josiah Martin
not a common issue design isn't the best and there's wear, but shouldn't break till the service except if it was not lubricated in the factory
Eli Bailey
>the 2824 cannot use its hand wind function for extended use without breaking.
wtf this is also an issue on the 2824?
Are all ETAs like this ?
I have a 7750 and avoid hand wind at all costs because it's an extremely well documented design flaw.
Xavier Powell
Planning my collection, r8 faggots The only thing i'm missing is a dive watch, but i'm a wristlet so anything above 40mm is a no for me. Inb4 Sub, everyone and their mother have one so no.
Andrew Sanders
Get a 38mm Blancpain
Colton Cox
Seamaster midsize friendo
Hunter Barnes
>wtf this is also an issue on the 2824? no, just was a meme in 2012 after some watchmaker blogged about excessive wear, which could have been easily explained by no lubrication >Are all ETAs like this ? no, but automatic (esp. bidirectional) and self-winding in general isn't that easy to solve >I have a 7750 not an ETA, but Valjoux
Leo Stewart
Hmm the design look kinda bland for me. Not bad, will look into it.
Logan Morris
>Inb4 Sub, everyone and their mother have one so no. horologically it's the most significant diver after all, so your collection will suck w/o it.
Jonathan Jackson
Not him but honestly with so many homages, fakes, and knockoffs I am kinda sick of looking at the design. I don't think it is ruined because of all the fakes but it definitely makes me tired.
Henry Richardson
What do you guys think about the SARB033? I'm looking for a rolex explorer alternative.
Alexander Foster
Let's just said it like this, if i see someone out on the street wearing a sub i would think "Oh another sub, next'. I don't hate but at the same time i don't like it either although it's full of history. Will i wear it if given a chance? Sure. Will i buy it with my own money and put it in my collection? Hell no. On the other hand, the omega seamaster mid-size the other user recommend is pretty cool, definitely will go into my list for the time being.
Alexander Fisher
>Let's just said it like this, if i see someone out on the street wearing a diver that's not a sub i would think "Oh another poorfag, next'. FTFY
Aiden Watson
pretty much, barring something like a Royal Oak Offshore or a Master Compressor.
Liam Allen
Funny thing, i know a guy taking a shit ton of loans just to afford a pre-own hulk. At least he got something to boast around i guess.
Justin Ramirez
SARB033 is good value for the money.
Zachary Brown
I have the 035 and an Explorer too and I just happened to post pictures of both in the last thread . The SARB is definitely more Datejust than Explorer though if you must compare it to a Rolex. It's more elegant and less sporty. It's a great watch, I would highly recommend it. Prices seem to have gone up a bit from what I remember paying for mine, though.
Jason Myers
is it a good idea to purchase a vintage watch ?
I'm very tempted to buy this Tudor Oyster Royal from 1960 ref 7934 but it might need some servicing due to its age
what alternatives do I have for a nice mechanical dress watch around 34mm up to 36mm in diameters (no higher) below the 800 mark ?
Julian Moore
I'm not familiar with that particular reference but that case looks polished to shit, avoid that one. You need to do lots of research if you want to buy vintage and not get screwed. It will absolutely need servicing and it will not be cheap, vintage watches are great and beautiful but they are not cheap to own. If you want a nice mechanical dress watch in that size then you'll probably have to buy something vintage, though.
Carter Roberts
1 vote for vintage, if the one you planning to buy is in good condition, the service won't cost you much. Mine only cost about $50.
Noah Moore
Also post the one you planning to buy in here, we pretty autism about them so we can help you see if the watch is shit or not.
Ryan Clark
>Seamaster over a Blancpain
Jeremiah Mitchell
Sarb looks nothing like an explorer, that being said, I have an 035 and I like it.
Thomas Clark
idk, the one you recommend look kinda weird, the seamaster look more rugged and soild to me
David Green
what would you recommend as an alternative to the explorer? I always saw the sarb033 as a dress watch but after watching more videos I keep seeing and hearing the comparisons to the explorer.
Adrian Collins
pic quality from the seller is shit so I'll ask him new ones but here it is
thx for the feedback, I have quite a small wrist around 16cm circonference but pretty flat, I kinda got tired of wearing big watches around 40-42mm and I feel like a good 34 to 36 mm could look really nice.
I have found some Stowa KS at 35.5mm they look very nice but also pretty modern as opposed to this tudor.
Also heres 2 omegas that have caught my eye, whats your opinion on them ?
that one has a good price, very very tempted to cop
Aiden Wood
forgot pic srry
William Anderson
Both of their movement still in pretty good conditions base on the pic but the first one is kinda weird with the seamaster case back. I recommend looking for a steel omega or a solid gold one, plated will look bad after you wear them a couple of times. Pics related is my seamaster.
Chase Green
thank you
i will contact the seller to know more about that seamaster caseback
it could be something to do with early models
Brandon Thomas
Old seamasters are great
Jeremiah Davis
>tfw going to take about two years to save up for a Speedmaster
Justin Morales
What do you do, flip burgers?
Levi Harris
More or less. Probably will take a year and a half desu.
Brody Cooper
You gotta be planning your future, not your future watch.
Oliver Hill
yeah, save that money for a business instead, 1.5 years for a $1000? watch is just sad
Elijah Wood
Oh, the speedmaster. Still 1.5 years is sad. Get your priorities in check.
Hunter Murphy
Looking at this page tells me how much Omega is a shit.
>$1000 A new Speedmaster Professional is about $3300. Used and in ok condition can go for about $2600.
Zachary Parker
>Vostok >Accuracy
Jose Baker
>recommendations? kys
Elijah Baker
Meme
Gavin Brooks
Can someone help me find out this watch's worth?
Dominic Moore
About $10. Made in China.
Jackson Campbell
It doesn't take a watch expect to realize that watch is worth jack shit.
Jayden Stewart
...
Ian Baker
The two watches on the left look amazing. The two on the right are hideous. The el primero is interesting and i get why you want one but the pilot? Its so strange you have amazing taste and then the shit on the right?
Jaxson Nguyen
I wish it was 36mm and did not have a date display. But it is finished pretty fucking well for the money.
Ian Carter
That looks like a straight up luch copy.
Ryder Perez
That is the only pilot that is interesting to me as well as having a interesting history behind it, different strokes for different folks i guess
Wyatt Ortiz
fair enough was just curious about the pilot and the chrono you chose. Do you have a dive watch you want btw?
William Williams
bad hands
Austin Phillips
Not really, i'm not a fan of dive watchs so most don't speak to me, although the new Tudor BB bronze is nice but 43mm is a big No for me. The zenith el primero with the 3 color dial is iconic but the new vintage inspired one they just release look nice too, too bad it's a no date
Charles Murphy
>too bad it's a no date How to spot a pleb.
Robert Hughes
I really don't want a watch collection with no date though....
Ian Robinson
Any good watch magazines to subscribe to?
Caleb Gonzalez
Watchtime is decent. Keep in mind watch magazines are mostly going to be vaguely veiled advertisements.
Hudson Torres
oh shit boys
Carson Allen
"Hey user, nice Rolex-"
Jonathan Edwards
They look so bad lol. Even half the photos in the sales listing show paint smudged on the watch and unfinished edges. look at crown in this image.
Samuel Young
>The 9 and 3 aren't even level with each other Nice
Colton Young
Possibly try the SARG009. In spirit, the sarb017, sarg005, and sarg007 are also similar to the explorer.
Austin Parker
Anyone have any recommendations for good watches for extended time innawoods? I'm looking for something that can withstand some knocks and still be accurate
Camden Lee
gshock gwm5610, solar, atomic time. perfect for innawoods
I do want a sarg009 but it's too expensive now. I know there are some stores I can find where they haven't sold it but I'm not sure how to find one. my best bet is probably a store in Asia.
Cameron Murphy
Why are only Francophones good at making attractive watches?
Nathaniel Cox
Rakuten has it for $340 US, so depending on how much you are willing to pay that could do it. Regardless, I think it might be good to wait a bit as opposed to trying to buy something immediately. You can save up as you wait as well.
David Diaz
nah it's sold out on rakuten. this watch is going for like 600+ now. only way to pay retail is to find it in a store that hasn't sold it since it's been discontinued.
Nathan Mitchell
Can you ID that strap in your picture? I like it.
Levi Thomas
>he doesn't know A. Lange & Söhne kek
Christian Wright
What model vostok is that?
Nathaniel Ortiz
Nope sorry, it's just a random pic i took on internet.
Brayden Walker
should have saved some money and bought a bagelmeme if you were just going to buy replica shitters
Zachary Sanders
its a rotary (a british brand that manufactured in switzerland and was the official watch supplier of the british army) aka a once historically important brand bought up by the chinese to sell shitters to the uninformed.
its worth fuck all. maybe £15 but probably not
Mason Kelly
the lack of track around the seconds subdial kills it for me. i personally think a date would probably make it look worse
Benjamin Gutierrez
I actually really like that watch. Probably my favorite zenith.
Andrew Brown
Opinion? Bought it for 100$
Zachary Gutierrez
100 seems very steep for that. Hope the movement is in immaculate working order.
Leo Bell
Seems high
Jacob Hill
When you live in Eastern Europe sellers can up their prices because they have no real competition. So far it is surprisingly precise
Kevin Collins
Just found this picture in the news: Swiss police officer wearing an F-91W in Schaffhausen of all places. Apparently some loonie attacked people with a chainsaw.
Aaron Bailey
That particular watch has a more desirable movement and is slightly more rare than its contemporary competition. Prices are pretty level across the board for watches of this sort in this condition even if the movement has been fucked with .. which I can guarantee has happened.
