Fuck data caps

data cap hate thread.
just got this notification about my data usage. i'd rather live anywhere other than fucking here.

Find a place with a local ISP that aren't jews and go live there.

There's hardly any place left in the US that doesn't have data caps.
The ones that don't have shitty speeds.

I live in rural SC with a local ISP (home telecom) that runs fiber to the home that gives 50mbps for $65 and gigabit for $150 with no cap, even after using several terabytes a month, no throttling

I have unlimited usage with Rogers Ignite 100u here in Canada for about 70 Queen Elizabeths a month and I'm sorry for you guys

just switch to another ISP op it's not hard

As far as the big cable companies go, Cox is probably the best. My 150 Mbps plan gives a 1 TB monthly cap; I've never come close to hitting it, but I have friends who have, and they never had any issues and also weren't charged anything beyond their normal monthly rate.

people like you are the reason they will add a cap in the future.

fuck you

only option at my apartment is century link, $55 for 10mbs. its retarded, i just use a hotspot from verizon.

did you vote for donald trump

i was overseas at the time and forgot to mail in my ballot, i didnt vote.

I pay comcast $60 a month for 180mbps download and 16 upload with no data cap

That's hilarious, I remember my 3rd world shithole used to have data caps like 15 years ago. Murrica definitely on top lmao

>Cox
The name tells everything.

>choosing any ISP that starts with the letter c

I have 1gbps with Verizon for $70 a month and no data cap.

I have 4 heavy internet users in the house, and just myself have used 1.6TB over the last 30 days.

Isn't Cox a family owned ISP? Can't believe they jew their customers so hard, I have optimum and there's no data cap.

How do they measure your wifi usage? Do they give you a router? Are you billed monthly for it? It's probably cheaper to just buy your own

Cox is privately owned. They don't really jew their customers much at all, and for years they've fought the RIAA and MPAA to not turn over IP address contact info.

I don't like caps, but their caps are so high (like 1TB/month) that they're basically not real limitations.

Im seriously paying like $200 per month at this point for internet now that comcast is making me pay $50 extra for the 'unlimited' plan
I'd fucking be happy with centurylink's 20 or 40mbps for like $50 total at this point
But apparently they only have 1.5mbps at my apartment even though they fucking sent me an ad for the faster options
At least cell carriers had a legitimate reason to implement data restrictions, not to mention theyve been easing them now that their networks can support heavier usage
Fucking unregulated utilities though

Mate at least you have any internet. In australia our new nationalised internet is such a god damn fuck up that they will decide your suburb no longer gets any internet, and then start a 4 month process of sending indians out to people's houses to slowly connect them all back up to the new network. I've been without a home connection for 2 months myself. I don't even live rural I live near the city.

I remember when Comcast data caps first rolled out in California last December. They injected a fucking notice into my browser telling me 'I had used X% of my data' and the billing rates per amount of data I used in excess. I thought it was an advert and closed it immediately without reading it. Then it popped up a few days later when I was browsing Sup Forums and I made a thread like 'lol guys Comcast is trying to advertise on Sup Forums now.' Never dreamed that they would actually try to jew me into having a paltry 1TB cap, I blew through that in a week. I legitimately thought that the concept of 'data caps' was just a meme like the 'no singles policy' on Sup Forums.

Fortunately here in Seattle we have Cascadelink, nice local fibre company. Can't wait for Comcast to die a horrible death.

You're a unicorn. I live in a major tech city, just blocks from a main Google office, and gigabit costs $300/month here. No data caps though

I switched to CenturyLink unlimited data no caps. 35$ a month. And i rarely have any issues at all. There is no excuse.

One important note is buy your own modem/wifi combo in one and do not ever settle for the default modem as that one is pure ass.

>CenturyLink shitty speeds
At least they are stable speeds, cable has always fluctuated a lot.

>55$
>10mbs

Someone went with the default modem and not the WiFi and Modem combo. If you did you would have 15-20mbs and it would be stable.

same. oregon?

Holy shit internet plans in the US are trash it's sad. In France, there is no data cap and most plans are between 30-60€ (~40-75$). Feels nice to be a frog sometimes

>Live in New Zealand
>had 10GB data caps where you pay 10 dollars a gigabyte if you go over as little as five years ago
>they finally get their shit together and offer unlimited internet
>see Americans only now whining about their humungous data caps
loving every laugh

They don't even have an excuse either because they're at ground zero as far as the internet is concerned. It's literally just corporate greed

>tfw you pay $80 per month for 90mbps down 10mbps up with 1tb cap

The fuck?
Im in oregon and have to pay $50 to get rid of the data cap

I give it 3 years before one of the larger ISPs buy it out and shit up the service just so that people can't point to it and say "See, they can run fiber to rural homes and still make profit!"

wow my government mai be shit but the internet is dirt cheap here in bulgaria. about 9$ for 35mbps with no data caps, feels good

That's probably still more than its worth. Stuff doesn't get priced at what it's worth, it gets priced at what people will pay, and this is an extreme case because the bandwidth is worth less than water. Have to take the good and the bad with capitalism I guess. Thanks for ending starvation in the civilised world though, I guess that was worth it.

People like you are the reason that ISPs know they can get away with caps. You're the kind of person who thinks someone shouldn't use as much data as they want to. An ISP should have the infrastructure to support all of their customers using the speeds they pay for at the same time.

I have the same question? How do you not have to pay extra to get rid of the cap, I'm also on comcast in oregon.

i dunno bro, its still cheap compared to everywhere else. and its sufficient to torrent with 5mb/s+, while regular download are still up toba couple mb/s

>laughs in unlimited LTE for 25$ from Poland

I live on a fucking south american shithole and not even I have to put up with data caps lmao

Balkans here
I pay $20 for unlimited internet.

>unlimited internet over LTE
>Poland
no such thing exist, enjoy your "fair usage policy".

I recently switched to Comcast. part of the 3 year contract is 1gps download speeds and unlimited data.

I'm hoping google fiber is in my area by then, since its currently 'under construction'. $70 month, no cap, 1gps up, 1gps down.

God damn I cannot fucking wait to get real internet.

Idk man, if I can seed 1TB within a month without repercussions, it's unlimited enough to me.

which ISP?

>tfw my area only has one ISP
>that ISP is a literal jew
>I need to pay 2 times more money to get the same quality from other ISPs
I've been requesting other ISPs to coverage my area but now it's still null.

people like you are the reason they will add a cap in the future.

fuck you

T-Mobile. Don't really ask me how this happened, my parents are their customers for quite some time already, but I suspect that they still had to fight for it.

Reddit called, they wanted me to tell you that you are the scum of the earth and the reason the world is going to end. They also say they support your decision to travel abroad and, despite never leaving their home town, think that people who don't travel abroad are cancer.

>having any data caps on any network especially cable to your home
Fucking 3rd world countries
Even most African nations have no data caps

Thanks, I'll look into this.

>I also have cox ultimate yet have the same cap as lower speed plans and it's bullshit
>CenturyLink just removed their caps but their service reliability is trash

>he's lives outside Vegas where Cox has no caps
Hahahaha

most african nations have no data

Most cities do
And thanks to the chinks many areas are now covered with 3g usually without caps

>tfw Norwegian
>tfw blazing fast fiber and no caps

Working as IT for Comcast only made me realize how Jewish these companies really are

People believe if you use 500 gb of speed in a week it affects us when in reality we never feel it and never will

Caps are there to get more money plain and simple and people aren't even fighting back they just take it

that's shit price, son.
move to romania

we literally can't do anything more than writing our representatives
>implying they represent us

>national cable company dislikes fiber to the home
>literally buys up all fiber companies and fucking drives them into the ground
Jewing never ends

Isn't that a months salary over there?

*blocks your path*

Denmark?

Move to Vegas
Cox has cheap internet deals and if you watch television the best tv + internet deal in the city for $100(basic cable plus ultra 300mbps

And no caps

Netherlands

What about places with Google Fiber?

The nearest Google Fiber location is 45 minutes away.

Not an argument

> The nearest Google Fiber location is 45 minutes away.
> i'd rather live anywhere other than fucking here.
You don't even have to move across the ocean, it's just 45 minutes away.

people like you are the reason they will add a cap in the future.

fuck you

>people aren't even fighting back they just take it
They are, it's just that these ISP's are so huge it's near impossible. Google tried, and they were successful in forcing them to finally roll out with fiber plans, but Google's expansion has ended due to the huge amount of bullshit these companies have.

If you want to take down Comcast, you have to take down everyone Comcast has their hands in, which includes TimeWarner,AT&T, Cox, even the fucking FCC.

It would literally require a miracle to cure cancer this late in the game.

I'm sorry to hear that, basically the same thing happened over here.
National cable company bought out all the fiber networks and has no plans to expand it further.
At least we have pretty fast cable in Denmark, but this shit still pisses me off.

>tfw I pay €25 per month for unlimited internet and phone usage

haa. you guys are a bunch of faggots.

on 50mbps unlimited for 7 $ now, get rekt batka

I live in the Bay Area and get 60mbs down with no datacaps for like $70 a month.

Don't you guys have anti-trust/monopoly laws or anything?

Yeah, but it's not technically a monopoly so long as they allow smaller ISPs to rent their way in on the network.

ITT: Europe wins again.

>Be American
>Get datacapped

tfw even the slowest most shitty ISPS in the netherlands don't do data capping since it's bullshit as fuck and people just don't fall for that bullshit here

Why are Americans so cucked by their corporations? You live in a democracy, there is zero reason why you should allow this to happen

Europe doesn't have this problem

As a fellow Norwegian, our internet is expensive as fuck (compared to other countries).

Data caps? Is this 2005?

Not even British people have to deal with this and they have some of the worst internet in the developed world

> some of the worst internet in the developed world
looks fine to me

Yes they do. I got this email earlier today.

Virgin Media are only available in some parts of the country and their performance varies dramatically. There's good reasons I don't use them despite it being available at my address.

I'm in the UK and I do.

You're in a small minority in the country by having access to speeds like that, and 100mbps isn't even fast when compared to other European countries. Not to mention you probably pay several times more for that than a continental does for much higher speeds. Most people in the UK are still stuck on 8-20mbps broadband. If you're lucky you can get a shitty fibre to the cabinet setup which is almost always vastly oversubscribed and won't give you much more than broadband speeds. I signed up for fibre the moment it became available and I was getting 80 down/20 up (maximum possible speeds), now it's oversubscribed as hell and I never get much more than 25 down/5 up

What shitty ISP is that? Why aren't you using a normal ISP like BT?

European here. Why the fuck you guys don't build your own networks? It's not hard. There are local networks all over the Germany, some are even based on Cjdns. Here in Ukraine every Internet provider in every city is literally based on a bunch of bought-out local networks and everything is blazing fast and cheap as fuck.
Your providers suck and this will never change. Forget them and move on. Fiber is cheap, wireless links are fast, everything is possible.

>Virgin Media are only available in some parts of the country and their performance varies dramatically
so you're complaining about internet options in rural england? do you know what the internet is like in rural america?

>I'm in the UK and I do.
you choose to have this problem. you are complaining about a problem you have chosen to have

Andrews and Arnold, and to be honest they're an excellent ISP, provided that data caps aren't an issue for you.

Static IPv4 / a whole /48 of IPv6, support that's available via IRC and WoW, no throttling, no logging / monitoring hardware, no filtering.

Basically they have caps, which sucks, but if you don't mind that they are genuinely an excellent ISP.

I'm not in rural England. I used them before, they were mostly good, when it worked, but the speeds fluctuated dramatically and at one point it went down for over 2 weeks before they fixed it because their engineers are retards. As a whole they're alright but their peering to other networks is pretty poor and their support might as well not exist. Also no IPv6.

>You're in a small minority in the country by having access to speeds like that
speeds are the same in pretty much every southern city. i've had 100 down in brighton, bournemouth, surrey, and london. i'm pretty sure cities up north get good speeds too. I feel like you probably live in some tiny little toothy yorkshire town where the whole village is running out of the same cabinet

I live in a southeast town with 100k+ people and don't have Virgin. Their coverage is ass.

where do you live

>I'm in the UK and I do.
No true European country has this problem. You guys are pretty much worse than the US, can't even watch something as """"brutal"""" as squirt porn. And it's probably gonna get even worse after leaving the EU, enjoy giving shady porn sites your credit card.

you act as if Sup Forums has never heard of a VPN

>haha just live in a city bro :)
The UK is such a small country that where you live should simply not matter at all, and it wouldn't if BT or the Government gave a fuck.

>needs a VPN to access normie porn

>doesn't use a vpn regularly
