Windows 10

Did you try turning it off then back on again?

Neither this nor changing the desktop manager does anything. Even forced vsynch and triple buffering in nvidia-settings

>mint is shit
And water is wet.

Vsync on linux is hard for some reason despite every other OS not having an issue. You will get this shit on ubuntu unless you have the magical supported GFX chip

>Open up a terminal and execute this command:
>nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="nvidia-auto-select +0+0 { ForceCompositionPipeline = On }"

Just wait for wayland bruh it's right around the corner

>not using the integrated graphics

why???

Because my 750M is much more powerful than it and I need my RAM for a RAMDisk.

It's an X11 issue. You can enable v-sync in the compositor but I think it adds 2 frames of latency instead of the usual 1 frame for v-sync, but I'm not certain about that.

Can you tl;dr it? Wikipedia says it's already out.

THANKS

layer 8 problem

it's been "out" for a long time, but it has to be supported by applications, unless you just want to use a terminal and rotate windows 360°

that's what you get for not using upstream ubuntu

Im waiting for yutani desu senpai, get on my level

Actual vanilla ubuntu has an unbearable GUI

>Linux is shit
FTFY

>nvidiot realizes he ruined his eyes

This.

You're a retarded, go back to windows

Right, go watch your 720p videos at 15fps poorfag.

You mean Debian?

What are you talking about, I'm on wayland right now

You must mean Fedora, right?

>using gnome

enjoy your shitty tablet designed systemd dependent botnet

>using integrated graphics
why???

>goyvidea
hahahahaha

>windows fixed this over a decade ago

i don't use gnome, why did you assume that?
I use sway

Holy fuck. Into the trash literally every guide on how to fix screen tearing goes.

Install drivers faggot or otherwise your GPU is too weak

except for AMD or Intel users
they can keep using the other guides

Install compton

This did not fix my problem.

The desktop manager? I'm running Xfwm4 + Compositing, so I should use + Compton instead?
Why Compton, what's so good about it?

Compton is a compositor, not a desktop manager. It did fix screen tearing for me on my arch install, but you should have an existing compositor that can handle it too. Might be worth a try, either way.

Which do you think is the best?

Whichever one eliminates your screen tearing. Compton is much less fancy than compiz. Also, not sure if there's a graphical way to configure compton in ubuntu, so you may need to edit a conf file to enable vsync. I know you should have a gui for compton, so you could try that too if it's easier.

>I know you should have a gui for compiz*

Thanks, I'll have a look. Generally, I'm just looking for any sort of "synchronisation" and not some meme term, right?

It should be vsync, yeah.

Even my old laptop from 2005 doesn't do that?

My hardware isn't the problem by a long shot. What's your compositor?

go to Driver Manager and install the nonfree one you dipshit niggerlover

You mean GPU driver? I am running it.

>Being surprised that Mint is dogshit

Someone didn't do their homework.

So what's the most visually appealing distro? I want transparency and lighting effects and shit.

compwhiz.

A distro can mostly look like anything with the right packages and configuration.

If you mean out of the box, no modifications? Probably Kubuntu. It has updated to use Wayland, which gives it much more capability for transparency, blurring, and other such things that you'd normally expect from Compiz (which is now a dead end.)

I see, so what should I download/tweak to make Kubuntu make use of my GPU?

eh..

Ubuntu's got repositories out the ass. I think it should support most hardware you have.

KDE (the "front end" of Kubuntu) has internal tools for editing settings, so you don't have to go muddling around downloading special packages and editing config files.

Just go ahead and look up some videos of KDE online and that should give you a feel for what KDE is like.

Also. Since kubuntu is ubuntu, remember to sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade to make sure nothing is broken or out-of-date.

So it doesn't auto update itself like Mint?

Install Arch

1. Mint is based on Ubuntu.
2. I am not aware of Mint being rolling-release.
3. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu can upgrade without the terminal.
4. I'm also pretty sure upgrading with the terminal is trivially easy anyway.

Anyways, just do what I said.

babbies first loonix

okay thanks

Thank you. My screen tearing in Manjaro Gnome is finally gone.

>nvidia
Found the problem

wait, all you linux nerds actually use your computers like this? lmao

>XFCE

There is your problem.
Stop being a nigger and use Cinnamon.

You didn't install your gpu driver, and turned on wobbly windows. Retard.

the power of free software

>installed Mint 18 MATE 2 years ago
>got Compiz w/ wobbly windows, desktop cube, and a bunch of other shit turned on
>literally no problems besides occasional pulseaudio bullshit

feels good mang

...

I don't know whether to use Xubuntu or Linux Mint or something. There's too many options, I don't know what I want.

that's called screen tearing

>tfw I thought you were complaining about the wobbly windows effect
man, I should go install Compiz again just for that
