Ask how to minimize windows in I3

>Ask how to minimize windows in I3
>Get told to fuck off because that's against I3 philosophy

Are you open source fags serious? I need to minimize one window to make it stop outputting video on framebuffer.

Then don't use i3, or any tiling window manager.

That's why open source will forever remain shit.

Because it has different tools for different purposes? This has nothing to do with it being open source, this is just you trying to use a tool for a job it wasn't designed for.

fucking trash bait
use xfce4
sage

use the sratchpad then

minimizing a window is a standard, basic feature. If a WM doesn't have it that's not "having a different purpose" that's "being incomplete"

reminder that software which considers itself your master, that presumes to tell you what you can and can't do, is against the basic freedoms open software is about.

>just another winbaby complaining
go back to your toddler os

>lemme just use this screwdriver to saw this wood!

also you're wrong. it's not telling you how to work because if you need some other functionality you could just write it in yourself

Also, if you make a window fullscreen, your floating on-screen keyboard icon goes away. Fucking great!

i dont think tiled dms are very good for the everyday person, nor are they intuitive

>Posting that image here
Get back to , asshole

Guys on Sup Forums don't like to see women?
I see.

Wow, 15 posts later, no one still has the answer

>posting images on an imageboard
>bad
if you're autistic about what's on the image then it's like your problem

Maybe tiling WMs aren't for you.

Save it pal, we know who those two are
Go jack off over your kekistani flag

Gnu/Linux 1%

Owww, diddums. Are the open source nerds bullying you? It's alright! Not
everyone is capable of forking and adding a feature themselves. Just buy a
commercial project.

Huh, just change your workspace.

How about using a complete DE genius?

Here's the redpill; all women are attention whores, even the shy ones. The differences are that the shy ones don't have the courage to be out and loud with their attention whoring nature.
Women, by their very nature, demand the attention of others as their only sense of fulfilment, similar to how men demand success from themselves as their form of fulfilment.

>we know who those two are
How? Unless you frequent Sup Forums there is no chance a normie can know.

HOLY LORD!

They're wearing the sacred cross of Jerusalem!

They might look trashy, but at least they're true Christians. :-)

This is a technology board if you haven't noticed. Not every thread on every single board has to devolve to THE JOOS and irrelevant shitposting about politics.

video is played in the framebuffer. Change the workspace and tge video is still there, floating in the same place.

what said
i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#_scratchpad

here you go OP

or remove your 10th work-space from the i3bar and use that to "minimize"

>I need to minimize one window to make it stop outputting video on framebuffer.

Do you really need to do that? Sounds like obscure shit and/or PEBKAC,

But user, there was no shitposting about DA JOOS or politics until someone threw a shitfit about who was in the picture.

I asked about I3, not the Jews. Blame yourself for being autistic.

>Not every thread on every single board has to devolve to THE JOOS and irrelevant shitposting about politics.
but you're the one doing it dipshit

literally who the fuck are they

How about not posting Sup Forums tier memes everywhere?

yeah but not everyone does, you could easily ignore it and not enlighten others (which is what you should have done

...

Raspberry pi video player. The python wrapper can only hide the video when the window is minimized.

I didn't, my only posts in this thread have been & I just came into the thread because I recognised the picture and knew someone would end up throwing a shitfit; like you did.
I'll say this again;
Nobody was saying a single thing about politics until you (or whoever) decided to throw a shitfit about who was in the picture.
YOUR problem, not ours.

I said nothing. Nor did I comment on the picture. On the other hand, this is how it usually starts:

>I need to minimize one window to make it stop outputting video on framebuffer.

No, you don't.

The reason you get told to fuck off is because your question and motivation are completely retarded. Can't believe a thread died for this. . .

I didn't ask who was in the picture,
did. Let's just ignore him and stop.

go seek help

>That feel when I get banned from Sup Forums for posting an image of white women.

that's because some autistic fuck started bitching about it, no one would give a single shit otherwise
is right
just stop

While it doesn't matter who they are, I'll just say this much;
They're two women who attention whore for the "alt right" cause. Because they're women, they became pretty popular pretty fast because autistic virgins.
There's nothing really of importance about them, their only feature is that they're sort've pretty.

seek help. you guys are mentally ill. getting triggered over an image

I don't use a tiling wm myself, because I do tiling in emacs, and I don't want to dick around with exwm for EVERYTHING, so I use openbox.

And you're accusing me of something. These are my posts:
Don't reply, get back to the topic.

Yes I do!

What is this, the 1980's? Do you still have a pentium OP?

Holy fuck, step away from the computer, now.

You can't help me, so you insult me?

I'm still not really understanding your problem.

Jewish girls

...

that's how the linux community works
if you want any help, install windows

>minimizing a window is a standard, basic feature...

Literally from the first line from Wikipedia:
>i3 is a tiling window manager...

You actually don't know what all those words mean, do you.

Why are you making it harder on yourself? There are distros like Puppy Linux for older machines.

"tiling" means shit and "manager" means manager

>Ask how to cut a rope with a fork
>Get told to fuck off because that's against the fork's philosophy

Are you open source fags serious? I need to cut one rope to make it stop being long.

You can't run Puppy on ARM.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:ARM_Linux_distributions

Puppy for raspberry pi is in alpha since forever and was dropped by the dev.

openbox is a nice minimal alternative to tiling WM if you dont want to go with a full blown DE

I think the point of that post was to show distros for ARM.

You'll need to change windows manager. You picked the wrong tool for the job.

Do I need to install 5 window managers on Linux to get one fucking "working" desktop experience?

Linux is just the kernel and doesn't have anything to do with your issue.

If you want a 'fucking "working" desktop experience' you need to install a "Desktop Environment" and not a specialized window manager that you tried because all the "cool kids" use it and later found out that it doesn't fit your use case.

Kidding aside: You "need" one (1) window manager and that window manager will be the one that ticks all your boxes. There's no way for anons on Sup Forums to pick the right one for you. You'll have to come up with your own requirements and own research online to find the one that suits you.

>Do I need to install 5 window managers..
No, but you can! This is also a way of finding the most suitable window manager. Install and try them all and find out which one works best. Good luck!

>You "need" one (1) window manager and that window manager will be the one that ticks all your boxes.

Give me I3 that can minimize windows.

Lauren is Jewish.

I3 is open source. Fork it and add a minimize feature (and thus destroying the whole point of i3 AND doing an awful lot of work that's already been done on other window managers).

There is none.
The concept of minimizing windows is a crutch for stacking window managers that do not implement workspaces.

>minimizing windows
It's time to move from your parents sweetie. Or stop looking at porn

you're in a resource restrictive environment and you want to minimize instead of close?
shouldn't you be closing at every opportunity?

OP is there a chance that your parents are brother and sister?
This is reason why no one should push Linux to idiots like OP.

No, I want my youtube videos to play in the background.

If you MUST use botnet, use mps-youtube

I do but it plays them videos in OMX. I can disable video stream but I want to take a look at it from time to time.

>If you MUST use botnet
When I told Sup Forums to use open-source alternative to youtube they called me gay and reported me for advertizing.

Really makes you go hmm.

You can put it to the scratchpad, look it up

Are you genuinely retarded or is this an attempt at bait?

No, this is a real issue and a bug in freetard thinking.

Tool meant for job A not able to do job B is not a bug or issue but the wrong selection of the tool.

OP needs a WM that can minimize and i3 isn't that.

Doen't work.
The video is still visible

Why are you so insistent on i3? Why can't you just use xfce or something?

Can you use xfce with keyboard only? Can you make every window fullscreen? No?

XMonad can do this

hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.13/docs/XMonad-Layout-Minimize.html
I don't know if it actually signals the program to stop rendering but switching to another workspace does anyway

edit the python wrapper or the video player to not be shit

Toggle it to floating more and resize it to very small.

>but switching to another workspace does anyway
not really

Create a branch of i3 that fits your needs.
I personally hate these 'muh programmatic philosophy' shitstain developers in the OSC, but they've usually created very strong software. The best thing to do is to fork, and make modularity on their project, so the original becomes obsolete and your fork becomes what people use - because it features modularity in the sense of 'you aren't restrained to some chucklefuck's philosophy'.

That said, I believe you can "roll" i3 windows, but not minimize.
I'd use bspwm if I were you - that said, openbox is also a really decent manager. I'm not sure if anyone's made tiling for it, however

>I want muh minimalism
>Why does it have minimal functions?
This better be bait. Also, use openbox faggot.

Um, yes? It has tiling keys by default, you can fullscreen everything, you can setup xdotool scripts for everything you want and attach keyboard shortcuts to them.

User a stacking or dynamic wm if you want minimizing, tilling has its own philosophy. I love windowmaker, try that.

Stop and look at what you are doing with this thread. It's not our fault that you don't know how to solve your own problem. Just look at the OP you wrote, the way you started this. You constantly insult and belittle us and yet you expect us to help you, even though you caused your own problem. Next time just ask normally.
Describe the problem and how you attempted to solve it. Try to ask better qestions too, for example and adequate question to your problem would be "What's a very lightweight window manager that has the ability to minimize windows?"
The answer to this question is pretty easy to answer because there have been other people who asked themselves the same question before. Just go on the Arch Wiki and look for a list of window managers. There you go. You could also use a search engine to find posts about people who encountered the same problem to see what people recommend. You could also use your package manager to search the repository for a list of window managers. I don't know which package manager you are using so just see the manual, or look up instructions on the net.

It's never the program's fault that you don't how to help yourself.
