What is IQ, and why does it matter?

This thread is for discussion on IQ.

IQ = cryptojew garbage

>Sup Forums is for the discussion of technology and related topics

how come?
technology and related topics
>intelligence is in no way related to technology and technological thought.

bumping - looking for real replies.

Its a battery of tests designed to roughly gauge how intelligent you are or how efficiently your brain can process new information.

Its doesn't matter because its not a definite determination of intelligence. Its mostly useful for finding out if one has a learning disability.

People who care the most about their IQ level have ironically never achieved anything in their life, that's why they treat their alleged IQ level as their biggest personal achievement

>what is iq
Intelligent quotient.
It's also the first question on the test. so you're already fighting an uphill battle, OP.

>intelligence is in no way related to technology and technological thought.

It isn't, anyone who works with technoilogy knows that people who use and develop technology are mostly idiots... This thread belongs in /his/ or Sup Forums

>This thread belongs in /his/ or Sup Forums
Ok, so how about this: I'll make an IQ thread on Sup Forums, this exact same thread. I will compare the two. This thread has given me less information than expected from Sup Forums, hopefully Sup Forums doesn't outdo you.

go do that you kike
or better yet, try /sci/

it has nothing to do with technology... What did you expect? It's like starting a thread about VHS versus Betamax on Sup Forums

>try /sci/

don't put this nonsense on /sci/... He should try /x/ instead,

>What is IQ
a predictor of socioeconomic success which measures how complex of a task a person will be able to learn
>and why does it matter
because it measures one of two traits that predict how well a person will fare in life

The ability to inference can make a difference, sure.
Dedication matters way more for most people's lives than any significant amount of IQ though, and (knowledge of) IQ tends to create arrogance. It's not like a "dumber" person can't be nice and meaningful.

Now go pick up that rock, and put in in that hole the other dumb guy just dug.

>in in
You gotta love hangovers, have an image.

so it seems that people with lower IQs gravitate to less technical areas.

>He should try /x/ instead,
10/10

>sage
Before it was made illegal, companies would (sometimes) IQ test applicants or employees for placement qualifications. High level positions were more likely to be filled with higher IQ people.

Is it fair to say that 35 years ago quality of life was better in the USA compared to after?

likely. also the sage was by accident.

>Dedication matters way more for most people's lives than any significant amount of IQ though
no, something we can call "dedication" is the second biggest predictor of life success after IQ, followed by emotional stability
>and (knowledge of) IQ tends to create arrogance
only in some of the most socially retarded people (and more on Sup Forums)
>It's not like a "dumber" person can't be nice and meaningful.
nobody claims that

>so it seems that people with lower IQs gravitate to less technical areas
depends what you mean by technical because philosophy is up there on that chart. if you mean areas that require abstract thinking and coming up with new solutions to complex problems every day then naturally, because IQ predicts how well a person can do that

I have an iq of a guitar string

the > technically means "implying", 'twas a joke my unseen internet friendo

Which is why I said "most people's lives"

Many won't know their IQ, many won't be able to reach a highly technical position, the ability of many to stay calm and keep going is more important than their penultimate information processing capabilities.

>Many won't know their IQ
that doesn't matter at all. they will know what they're able to do and it will be reflected in their hobbies, school test results etc. many highly intelligent people are of course hindered by their lack of willpower and emotional problems, but people of lower intelligence have these issues as well

>the ability of many to stay calm and keep going is more important than their penultimate information processing capabilities.
someone who's doesn't have the information processing capabilities to finish high school or get a driver's license will have a much tougher time getting by than someone who can pick up programming in 3 months and get an entry level job.
industriousness is very important but not significantly more so than iq. this is what the research has to say anyway. although our instruments for measuring industriousness are poor compared to those we use for measuring intelligence

psychology is mysticism, not science

Psychologist here, fuck IQ. Only useful for disability bucks

>engineers
>not cunts

Sweet b8, m8

Are you telling me this doesnt sound like some batshit crazy crystal ball shit?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungian_archetypes

Wasn't that
>intelligence quotient
instead?

sounds like a partially successful initial guessworks

>>IQs have been cauclated from students SAT scores
Into the trash it goes. SATs are such a shitty way to gauge due to the amount for people that force their children to do endless SAT prep classes to artificially raise their scores because they aren't smart enough to get even a 1900 (~1250 on todays test) without it.

IQ doesnt really measure of intelligence but it does highly correlate with it. also it's inaccurate when comparing individuals but spot on when comparing populations.

>spot on when comparing populations.
