This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
Modern bulova has a few acceptable pieces. Mostly mallcore shit though.
Vintage accutrons are great though.
Austin Mitchell
Thoughts?
Daniel Green
Vintage Bulova has some very interesting pieces. They were an American brand, and they made some of the watches our soldiers went to war with.
Now it's part of citizen. They're fine, if unremarkable.
Nolan Walker
As long as it's the 38mm, it's okay. Has an (elabore if I'm not mistaken) 2892-A2 in it which is nice.
Evan Diaz
What about Movado? I don't like the looks personally, they seem like overpriced crap.
Blake Wright
>they seem like overpriced crap. Exactly.
Joseph Garcia
Afaik hamilton, and other swatch brands, use something like an modified elabore for most of their watches. Like elabore base 2824 with incabloc instead of etachocs (2892 only uses incabloc I think.) But I don't know all the specifics.
Angel Wilson
Make your list.

To be fair it's only omega that fucked it up, the daniels/roger smith coaxial is great.
John Bailey
> F. P Journe
Who? Wat? Why?
Logan King
>he doesn't know FP Journe
Get a load of this guy.
Grayson Perry
>Don't know F. P Journe
Sebastian Johnson
I should have specified Omega's implementation, obviously.
Jordan Ramirez
So are most of you guys just LARP'ing as haute horlogerie consumers who own or someday will be able to own ultra high end luxury watches? Seems that way.
Logan Ramirez
ya
Grayson Cook
While I really respect haute horlogerie, my own main interest is mainly in high end production watchmaking, actually.
Christian Jones
But I already own several ultra high end luxury watches. Most of /wt/ is trash but the occasional good watch and discussion does happen here.
Parker Perry
Okay, that made me hard.
What are some good models to view?
Juan Cox
right here!!!
Isaiah Miller
Yes and no, some watches that have really cool and interesting history doesn't cost as much as a ferrari.
Austin Campbell
That one in particular is the chronometre bleu, which is Journe's least expensive, and iirc his most popular piece.
Xavier Rodriguez
Yea I feel the same way. After owning a few mid range Seikos this year I plan to save up and get my first swiss piece. Deciding between a Speedmaster and a datejust. Rolex is about as high end as my interests go. Anything else and it would be far to delicate for me to say I would enjoy wearing freely without worry.
Caleb Torres
Yep.
Benjamin Mitchell
The CHRONOMÈTRE BLEU model is their entry level model. Their sport line is pretty good too.
Evan Sanchez
I personally would vote DJ over a Speedmaster, but I'm biased. I stronger prefer the vintage Speedmasters with the Lemania 5100 and I still need to get a blue dialed 16200 DJ on an oyster for my collection.
Jonathan Kelly
I recommend the DJ too, but grey dial. Buy vintage.
John Jackson
Patrician tier DJ coming through.
Lincoln Watson
Right now I consume only the highest quality shitters, since they fit my budget. I've also pretty much exhausted the shitters I find interesting. However, assuming my life stays on track, Rolex, F.P. Journe, and ALS are likely all in my future.
Matthew Russell
What is your take on the 1861 movement in the newer ones? Also if you are that one seikofag I think you are what are your thoughts on the fromjapan proxy service?
Isaac Green
Just bought a vintage Seiko 5.
Needs to have its crystal replaced, gonna put on a new strap, and I figure while I'm at it I might as well have it serviced. I'll take some before and after photos when it arrives.
Carson Gomez
>Just bought a vintage Seiko 5. why though
Joseph Cooper
WRONG
Austin Adams
This is the quintessential old man Rolex. But for that reason I kinda like it.
Jack Ramirez
Grandpa tier compared to a non-two tone linen dial. Fite me irl :^)
Adrian Roberts

Brayden Jones
The 1861 is fine, if a bit technically dated. It doesn't hack, has a 21,600bph beat rate and is cam actuated (though at least it doesn't use a horizontal clutch like a 7750).
Can't speak to that proxy service as I've always used Buyee.
Oliver Gutierrez
Not but I recommend zenmarket
Brayden Carter
because Seiko stopped making watches with kanji day wheels, and fixing up an old Seiko with the proper day wheel seemed easier than buying a new watch and modifying it with a separately purchased day wheel.
Alexander Flores
I've used fromjapan before (not for a watch though), had no problems at all with the service. I'm sure you can look up reviews to see what other people think.
Christopher Morgan
>Two tone AND Roman numerals
Thomas Collins
Hey fat canuck, have you been able to find anything out about my daini made 5740C?
Nolan Morris
>Last winter I went to the Seiko boutique in NYC and when I looked that the turtle the fucker told me the price was $800. Pffffffffffffffft
Jordan Myers
Surely you were mixing the Turtle up with another diver. There's no fucking way that a Seiko store would mark up a watch by almost $600.
Mason Cook
Not yet, haven't had time to go ask around yet. When I do, trust me I will bore the absolute shit out of everyone in here passing along what I find out.
Should i get this watch? Anyone have experiences with this?
Alexander Ward
Sincerely can't wait.
Anthony Roberts
anyone know a similar shitter version of this?
Adrian Sanchez
no, are you fucking persian and drive a bmw?
Hunter Barnes
Can I join?
Dylan Thompson
Was thinking 16233 with either tapestry or linen dial
Jace Robinson
what kind of watches do pilots use?

Wear it on your gloves, mr.pilot. You do have one right?
Brayden Miller
>strapping a dinner plate to your wrist You're still going to have to wash it once you're done eating, user.
John Scott
Hey all I asked this question a while back, but I just wanted a few more opinions if that's okay. If you already responded to my question, thanks, you don't need to respond again, but I'm about to but my first nice watch I'm sick between an Omega speed master and a Grand Seiko snowflake. What do you think would be a better first watch purchase?
Thanks
Joshua Thompson
You should probably specify what speedmaster model you are thinking of. I would definitely go snowflake since the speedmaster isn't my thing, but some of the references are very cool.
15202ST, Royal Oak Extra-thin: I don't see any good videos of this.
Lucas Walker
Swatches are fun. No qualms here.
Juan Ward
4/5 pretty sexual but besides the impressive movements of the of the harry winston and ulysse nardin not my thing visually wise.
Grayson Baker
From the top of my head so I don't think it's balanced.
Mason Nguyen

David Butler
Asides from the strap I like it. Are there any other watches with a simple dial like this yet high in quality?
Adrian Richardson
The Seiko Chariot "Steve Jobs" watch is pretty similar.
Asher Gutierrez
9.18/10
Hudson Morales
Two of those are absolutely disgusting though. Why are your dreams so shitty?
>two-tone
Thomas Wilson
Braun watches are pretty decent from what I hear. There's also the Casio MQ24, if you want to go for the absolute povo option.
Luis Myers
NEVER EVER
Anthony Martin
If I was spending money I'd rather get this, it looks perfect
Jason Evans
A little heavy on the dress side.
Joshua Scott
Rolex explorer perfect Rolex faded bezel red sub nice Zenith el primero very nice highly overlooked A Lange nice I would pick something like a patrimony over that one but that is just me Zenith Pilot feels redundant with the explorer already in the mix
Michael Davis
>le datejust is old man rolex xD good, even better
champagne dials are too much for me
Isaiah Thomas
>overlapping subdials
Henry Richardson
The zenith pilot fill the Pilot watch slot, the explorer fill the everyday watch slot so i don't think it redundant. The patrimony doesn't speak to my in term of design, wish the Saxonia have a moonphase on the second subdial though. Grey on rose gold is cool
Liam Parker
I just got my Polijot blue angel back from my dad after him being a fucking asshole and "holding on to it for me", for the past 5 years. his retard friend fucked it up and it wont wind up, and i think he somehow broke the reset for the timer.
how much you think this is going to cost me? its a real one.
Jacob Rodriguez
They're absolute shit movement wise. They look nice of course, midcentury modern is pleasing to the eyes, but the mechanics are dogshit chinese quartz movements, avoid at all costs.
Nicholas Allen
Does the new Omega Seamaster 300 receive about the same level of human attention as a Grand Seiko?
