Is it possible put gpu inside thinkpad?

This guy's selling a t530 with a nvidia 5400.
If I buy a t530, can I put other gpu?

ebay.com/itm/lenovo-t530-i7-3840-16G-nvidia-5400-hdd-500-lcd-1920x1080-win10-office-2016-/322612400409?hash=item4b1d329119:g:axMAAOSwcj5ZWbrJ

nope

yes get a 1080ti and u will have the best laptop ever, just stick that inside and boom there u go

need a laptop for watching anime and browsing Sup Forums, but I'm poor as fuck. Should I get the x200 or is it a meme?

pls no bully

t440p

not a meme i picked mine up for 180 and an extra 100 for the ssd

>/tpg/ on irc.rizon.net
this does not exist, may i ask why?

I love my T420
Im told the 1600x900 panel upgrade is garbage... is it true?
I got a caddy for it, even tho i dont even have a drive to put in it... yet.
If i ever need a cpu upgrade i can always get a cheap one from ebay.
This laptop is gonna be my best friend for the next 10 years.
:>

Why do any of you buy these 16:9 pieces of trash like X220 or T470 instead of a real Thinkpad like an X61 or a restored glorious T70? It's like you don't even understand why anyone wanted a Thinkpad in the first place and you're just following the maymay like cargo cultists.

Is there a way to get a 1600x900 IPS display for the T450? I really want one of these but I'd hate to go for 1080p if I upgrade to IPS because then I'd have to use scaling which would render Linux unusable...

Will be in the market for a new laptop soon. May wait until Black Friday but could buy now.
Not looking for a large form factor or price point if I can help it; the 11e seems to meet my needs so far. Won't be intended for games but I might find myself playing Doom in bed. A quick skim of customer reviews are mildly concerning. Any experiences with this model?

Don't buy it, it's as simple as that. Go on ebay and find any T series or X series that costs the same as this piece of junk and I guarantee you it's going to be better in every regard.

>the 1600x900 panel upgrade is garbage
it's garbage in terms of image quality but the 1366x768 screen is too so it's the same garbage but higher resolution

because believe it or not, some people need actual processing power and support

Is a 12.5" laptop too small for use as the only computer?

depends on what you do.

shitposting and anime, sure.
regular web browsing (facebook, youtube, news), pretty much
anything productive, unlikely.

Get an X series if you like that size but if it's to be your only computer buy a 24" or 27" screen for use at home.

just make it 2 inches larger and make your problems go away.

that's what my ex-wife said before running off with that tyrone guy... :(
but how was I supposed to do that?

dunno... only thing I know it I wanna be 12 inches deep in that pussy

Grabbed a T520 to give away as a gift. I've never had a Thinkpad, but I get why they're so popular. This one came with an ssd and a 1080p screen, I'm not sure I'll be able to give it up.
Also, the keyboard light is very handy and the keyboards on these are as good as advertised.

you don't really notice once you start use it

Is using the expresscard to add a usb 3.0 port on a T420 a terrible idea? Is there a better solution?

I think it's a good solution

not a meme
before i even started paying attention to this board, i got a job that involves refurbing laptops. I fell in love with thinkpads through experience.

best built mobile machine ever made, i dont give two fucks if you call me a shill either.

Get a docking station.

I've got a T420 with a quad i7. Should I use it for a hackintosh? I'm tired of Windows and MS tech in general, and I get annoyed at Linux for various reasons.

My question is mostly technical: will there be too many headaches if I try to hackintosh my 420?

Is the W510 the biggest lemon of the recommended thinkpads?

I got mine a few years ago and I am happy with how it runs but trying to find a reasonably priced replacement OEM battery or 1080p screen seems impossible.

Have I left it too late to try find good spare parts for this machine? It feels like the market has dried up for them

>tfw bidding on so many ThinkPads simultaneously that I can't even afford to win them all
LIVIN ON THE EDGE

Get a T70. It even comes with better customer service.

Really wanted a T series but none of them have IPS. Is IPS just something that's really wanted for low resolutions?

Nevermind I posted this by accident, was looking at recommended T's and didn't see they had IPS screens

That being said, I'm having trouble sorting out screens for the T series. I'm following the ktgee guide from OP and I want a T series with a screen that doesn't have that nasty thing where the screen changes colors significantly when you look at it from an angle. Some say TFT, some say TFT IPS, which confuses me because I thought you had to pick either or.

No, it's next-next-next levels of easy but you'll need to get a Dell DW1510 compatible wlan card and flash a new bios for the wlan card to work.

The harder part is messing with the VM to make the bootable usb stick.

>calling this a thinkpad
What were they thinking?

What 1600mHz DDR3L are you guys buying?

Found an R40e in decent condition. Just needs a power supply. Is it worth it, even as a crapbox I play old PC games on?

>R series
lolno

Would you recommend the Thinkpad 13? Or is it a meme?

Fuck off shill
Go wait for your touchpad

I doubt chinks can do onsite replacements user.

>no trackpoint
Not a thinkpad.
Also
>playing doom
I hope you mean the original

No its not if we're talking about the X220 or X230

Enjoy user
You got a good one

The only other solution is to get a newer laptop
So yeah an expresscard adapter is a pretty good solution

Messing around with Windows 7 on my T420. I can't get the resolution right at all. At 1600x900, everything is tiny to the point of hurting my eyes or being completely illegible. Lowering the resolution in Windows just makes everything warped and blurry. Artificially enhancing the size of everything by 25% makes everything look cartoonishly huge and some things don't fit on the screen at all.

Anything to be done about this? Is this what everyone meant when they said that these things have shit screens? The picture quality is nice to me, just can't get the size of things right.

Pic is of 100% resolution.

>I'd hate to go for 1080p if I upgrade to IPS because then I'd have to use scaling which would render Linux unusable...
What retarded meme is this?

Disregard this post, I am completely retarded

I have an R61i with an 1680x1050 screen (got it off a broken R61 for 15€), the speakers are much better than you can get e.g. on a X-series, the keyboard is a'rite but the plastics are kinda creaky. I'd recommend this one but not R4x or R5x because no sata - no ssd.

What happened user

I need a laptop for college, a 1080p display is kind of necessary if possible, is the L series a meme?

Hello OP could you put a direct link to the IRC? E.g. qchat.rizon.net/?channels=/tpg/

Thanks!

and my budget is 600$

finally pulled the trigger on a T440s with i5, 8gigs, 250GB SSD and HD+ screen for 350 euros
since i'm not in burgerland where everything is a deal, did i fuck up?

It does it's just that it's pretty much dead

Kind of but not as much as some people make it out to be
If you're insisting on something new go for it but if you wanna go for best price I'd say get a T530 and build up from there

Well Intel is a meme themselves so I wouldn't recommend recommend anything newer than ivy bridge personally

Too big

Is a x220 with an i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD worth it for ~250 dollars? In good condition.

Getting delivered tomorrow, pretty damn excited. i5 with 256Gb SSD, along with 16gb Ram.

What's your routine when you get a new machine /tpg/?

I install my linux of choice.

I figured that goes without saying, after that I mean.

I got a x220T for 130 dollars, same specs

>T530
>FHD
>quad core i7
>nvidea giraffics
>great condition
>1 year warranty

What's a good price? 400€?

Where do you live? Thinkpads seem to be more expensive here in Sweden (or Europe in general) than they are in the US.

Are there any compact chargers for thinkpads? I can live with carrying around my x230 but it's annoying having the big charger

65W adapter is big?
How about you stop being a manlet?

That's pretty much the lowest they go for here so yeah do it. It's what I paid for mine

Unless you want an X260, there's one up for about $100 more

Sweden, actually.

1. start up to see if works
2. if yes do the upgrades I want (RAM, SSD mostly)
3. Install Loonix

So it's worth it? Will I want to upgrade the screen at some point?

>mfw manlets struggling to carry their 3lb 12.5" laptop with a 6cell battery and 65w charger
>mfw these people spend money on 4cell batteries because even the 6cell is too heavy for their bitch arms

I got pissed off with it (X230) eventually and got an X301. 13.3" is a really nice screen size, especially in 16:10.

Name of each in order of taking them out of the bag?

You will want an IPS panel, yes

I am gonna assume

X201
T420
T530/W530
T400?

...

X201s
T420
W520
15" T60

yesYESYES FHD IS RATHER RARE
and quad i7 dont have any cooling problems, neither do the novideo graphics have any. but they're unusable for gaming (except very light stuff like 2hu, osu and maybe lol/csgo) and under linux (because no video drivers for linux (haha nice pun)). you didnt specify the amount of ram though. with that 1year warranty I'd go for it.

It's an auction and I thought 400 was maybe too high of an bid. Shit, how much shoukd I bid?

why meme? scaling is shit on linux currently and at native res text and screen elements would be too small

I use a 1080p monitor and my font rendering is flawless. I'd show you but I'm on vacation right now and don't have access to my desktop. I even used a 1440p monitor for a while, too, and never had any problems.

Debian testing with awesome wm, btw.

>font rendering is flawless
that's not the problem here. Scaling messes up GTK application.

Is processor power and usb 3.0 the only benefit of a 430 over a 420?

In what way? I'm genuinely curious because I haven't noticed anything.

last time I tested it, maybe last december, I had some very sever issues. for example on GTK3 applications the menu bar was completely fucked with all the different options being displayed in the same place only slightly offset. some buttons were hidden behind window borders. stuff like that

current price+20 and if someone offers more just go for 400

ok, now i see why you don't remove the sticker in the touchpad in the t430

gonna have to look around for a sticker :(

Weird. I've never had anything like that happen to me and I use GTK2/3 applications. What distro do you use?

tried Debian, Ubuntu and Manjaro. I just wanted to find one that works, I like to make it my own anyways so it didn't really matter where I started. I also tried different DEs though I knew it shouldn't make a difference.

I might test scaling in a virtual machine on my desktop again some time soon though

I'll inspect the hell out of it because it's used instead of refurbished. I'll install Ubuntu because there's no Windows key.
Then I'll bring it with me on a 3 day vacation and see if I like the X230's keyboard or not. Then I'll order some upgrades.
The mem/storage is low on what I bought but it has the i5 3360 rather than 3320 so I thought it'd be a neat step up without going for the i7 which were more expensive.

I plan to play some games on it, hopefully Pathologic HD and stuff. I don't know how Wine works so maybe I'll also install my old WinXP disc or find the cheapest Win7/10. I've never had a laptop before so I'm stoked. I can finally use a computer outside...

I'm looking for a new IPS display for my x220. Is this a good IPS screen?

Thanks, I might go through with it this week if I can figure out how to get an OS image and burn it.

You can delete everything after .html, luddite.

Just got an X60S for $20 with no hard drive. Did I get a deal?

Going to put an ssd in it.

Is it possible to upgrade the screen?

You got a deal there friend...
If I could only get one that cheap. I can't seem to find one below 80€

I'm reading through the info in the OP and Thinkpads seem really great, is there a downside? For someone who wants a long lasting laptop for general use they seem perfect. I'll be looking to purchase my second laptop ever soon and I can't find anything wrong with Thinkpads. Also curios why are they so cheap? I got a Chromebook (pls no bully, needed something that had no access to vidya for awhile) for $250 and it seems I could have gotten a MUCH better Thinkpad for that amount.

Windows boot manager keeps overwriting GRUB

Wat do?

Chromebooks are complete ass I have no idea why someone would even think of buying one.

Sell it and buy a x220 for $100

Never bought a laptop before, didn't do enough research/read the wrong websites and made a poor decision. Spent the time I've had it to learn a little though and I don't plan on making the same mistake twice.
