I have one of the adjustable ones at work. It is pretty comfy.

standing for too long is bad
sitting for too long is bad
get some fucking exercise daily fatass

It's a meme. How many people actually use a fucking standing desk?

Sit on the exercise ball and work like that. Turns your spine into titanium.

which is why a standing table

since changing position is the most natural thing

Meme. Nice chair and taking a little bit of a walk around every few hours is the way to go.

what about a nice chair that elevates your height to standing... AND walking around?

>sitting on an exercise ball

>never letting your lumbar-pelvic assembly come to a complete stop, for hours on end

enjoy your spinal degeneration

Our job has dual 1440p monitors on 3D adjustable and rotating arms with electronically height adjustable desks.

if it sustains a flexed hip/lower back for long duration then it will still contribute to disc problems in your spine

>which is why a standing table
???

Standing is not exercise ya goof.

what i'm saying is you even it out, 4 hours sitting, 4 hours standing..

and it would be way easier to do since you wouldn't have to adjust the desk everytime, you just get off the chair

Makes you look like a ergo trend whore. Just fucking exercise.

;_;
my company just bought new standing desks for everyone -- what the fuck were they thinking.
some people already one and the only people who stand every so often are the fatties. all the fit people just sit at their desk like a normal person.
this is what's up.

how do you exercise while working on a computer?

that's an okay balance, but the longest time sitting should be about 20 minutes at a time, which is why a table that changes height easily is better than a chair that does the same

it's not the absence of exercise, its the duration of sitting time, in accumulation

except, depending on the age of the person, in about 3 to 5 years, the people who sit extensively will develop back problems, regardless of exercise activity

>the people who sit extensively will develop back problems, regardless of exercise activity
As will those who spend their work hours standing instead of sitting.
Standing desks cost way more than a regular desk and chair especially an adjustable one like you mention. So the optimal route is to use your desk as you normally would but stand the fuck up and get some exercise.
Literally not that hard.

I swear people go through great lengths to rationalize stupid purchases.

most people who do a lot of standing develop leg joint problems, or leg circulatory problems, and less often back problems, unless theyre doing a lot of lifting

standing desks are expensive but they are cheaper than workman's comp cases or back surgery paid for by the company health premiums

the problem with sitting or standing without postural change is the sustained compression of the disks, and the sustained traction of muscles on the spine -- the disc materials fail under prolonged repetitive load, and the bone develops structural changes from the same influences

sitting is worse because of the vulnerability inherent in the lumbar spine during flexure -- the disc material gradually flows and then fails -- anyone who has a disk problem can attest to this and the approximate duration of sitting they can tolerate

if things go too far, then standing causes symptoms as well, as does any position by that point

exercise doesn't prevent these problems if the basis duration of sitting is extensive (more than 20 minutes at a time on a routine basis, such as with work routines)

standing up and exercising is a nice thought, but most work environments do not allow it to occur consistently, and in most work environments it is impractical or discouraged unless it is built into the environment as a physical implement

meme

>discectomy or lumbar laminectomy is uncommon in 40 to 60 year olds

the problem with standing desks is they take too long to go from sit to stand, long enough to discourage you from doing both. so if you want to get a standing desk i highly recommend one that can be quickly adjusted such as the ones ergotron makes that use a spring to go up and down instantly or maybe a pneumatic lift. you will want to sit and stand. standing in place all day is unhealthy too.

me too!

Why the fuck would you ever want to stand if you plan on staying in that spot for an extended period of time?

Do you stand while watching TV?
Do you stand while trying to do research?

The entire point of standing is so that you're mobile and can easily move from one spot to another. This purpose is completely negated when at home.

You're a dumbass if you buy this.

>Looking down to your computer
it's like you enjoy being Quasimodo

>too tall for the desk set up at work
>I'd need two monitor stands that lift them 6 in off the table or dual monitor arms
I guess I'll just ruin my neck more than I already have for the last decade

That's why you have adjustable height on both desk and chair, so you can always be comfy.

we need a virgin sitting vs chad standing meme

you faggots probably don't even know what standing means, go join the military and talk then

They might be overrated, but I wouldn't call them a meme.

...

standing and sitting for extended periods of time are both bad for your body
so it's a meme
get some exercise

Standing doesn't actually help at all, it's pretty much a meme.

>all these people thinking exercise is more important than diet in any way
>all these people thinking exercise a few days a week somehow negates the otherwise sedentary lifestyle
a standing desk wouldn't do this either to be fair.

My back's already fucked. I was hit by a car while biking to work (exercise is healthy, they said) and literally shattered my spine. Walking is mostly okay, sitting is glorious, but standing still for more than a few minutes at a time is pure torture. A standing desk is not in my foreseeable future.

Our bodies are meant to be constantly moving with an intermittent rest.
Standing has no benefits compared to sitting unless you sit through the majority of the day.
At least when sitting you feel comfy.

They're for chad and his high foot arches

Why do ex-military feel the need to let everyone know they were in the army at every available opportunity? Is it because they have nothing to offer other than the fact that they can soak up bullets and IEDs?

>>all these people thinking exercise is more important than diet in any way
we're talking about posture not weight loss

would ruin my knees desu. Standing still is worse than sitting, I'd rather take walks frequently

because their lives suck and people better make up for it by respecting them

...

>leans against the worktop anyway

lol it looks incredibly risky

I work 40+ hours a week and recently got a standing desk. Definitely not a meme, its fantastic. Sitting around for hours on end makes you bloated and you just feel horrible.

The 10 hours I used to spend standing at my retail job also felt horrible

Total meme, do some cardio for few minutes every few hours like a normal human being instead of being lazy fuck.

Why not just have a permenantly fixed standing height table, and then have a drafting chair. You can sit or stand and never have adjust table height.

>The entire point of standing is so that you're mobile and can easily move from one spot to another.
No, the entire point is that sitting for long times is bad for you.

To me the benefit of standing desks is that they're still adjustable at the low level so I can make it just right as a sitting desk. It was never quite right when I could only adjust the chair.

However the standing aspect is a total meme implemented by (((executives))) to milk free work out of us. You know what I do when I need to stand up? I get up and go take a break or talk to colleagues. These are lost seconds for the company. Perhaps even, G-d forbid, a whole MINUTE throughout the day. Unacceptable. Standing desks are there to squeeze every last productive second out of you.

Wrong, if you really can't leave your desk at all during the day a standing desk might help, blood clots can form when sitting for long periods of time.

Maybe because he has a valid point? I was in mandatory service and oh boy how much I had to stand.

>I was in mandatory service

great job of proving my point

If you're having back or neck issues, it's a lifesaver.

Inversion table will eliminate a lot of those issues

The problem what most people have is that work to much, pretend to work to much or are just fucking neets who camp infront of their station and being a miserable failure. Make 20-to-30 mins breaks every now and then at least once after two hours

I bet anyone who says this is good never had to stand up for several hours.

Pure meme

I may have developed one of these. How many days do I have left?

Had one of these it was shit. You'll feel like leaning forward all the time. Might be alright for less intensive work like a receptionist or something.

>Total meme, do some cardio for few minutes every few hours like a normal human being instead of being lazy fuck.

this guy gets it

see

...

Not him, but key word may, and point taken

did you try setting it at a super slow speed?

>excess sitting was associated with a shorter life span
Well I guess I should stand more in my otherwise sedentary lifestyle because apparently correlation equals causation now.

buy this instead, niggas. it cost $30 a few months ago, but its now $15 more or less. buy one with USB ports if you a real g.

just go run, eat healthier and in a month you'll be fine

bump

But then stools can't go down to a nice seating height, so you have to use the foot rest ring

they're a middle management meme to keep you working during the recommended break from sitting every so often. they want you to stand at your desk and continue to work instead of hitting the bathroom, getting a drink, or going for a smoke

You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

Why the fuck would I pay to stand? Do it yourself.

Linus (The Linux one, not the one who drops shit) uses or used to use one of those.

So slave style is the best?

...

>meta-analysis
into the trash it goes

Are you the one guy from /diy/ whose book shelves had collapsed?

Well, he writes rage mail mostly nowadays.

I had a standing desk at my last job. It was alright but I had to shit all of the time and I was constantly farting compared to when I was sitting down.

Talk to a doctor. Don't ask Sup Forums for medical advice, you fucking fat moron.

Why not pic related?

You should totally have one if you want to develop peripheral venous insufficiency and want to wear uncomfortable leg-compressing high socks that will eat up your nutsack.

Ask any surgeon about it. They stand around for literally hours during operations.

wtf no lol

I already have an Areron, can I add that base to it?

Second from the left, the about-to-go-piss-but-finishing-something-that's-taking-too-long is the healthiest seating position

maybe.

if the top has a standard taper then your golden

>so you have to use the foot rest ring
which actually sucks dick if the ring doesn't have a large enough radius.
