Anyone here have an old server running and want to make some money with it?
I'm doing particle simulations with Blender and need to render some data sets that will take from 1 month to 6 months to compute each. I will pay for the electricity cost and a small sum on top of that, paid in full in BTC.
I need at least one core and 2 GB of ram, ideally 4GB of ram. And 10-15 GB of HDD space.

>inb4 no one on Sup Forums recognizes that this scam is an ACTUAL BOTNET
Cooper James
>letting some nigger remote into your PC so he can download kiddy porn.
Tyler Reed
I mean it should be pretty obvious, getting one core and 2GB of RAM is dumpster diver tier.
Jace Brooks
why not just use aws or azure? they both have trial account you can use
Christian Moore
OP here.
You can install blender on your own hardware and I can send the .blend files to you with instructions on how to set up the render and start it.
Evan Hughes
Because I'm looking for something cheaper. And because I prefer to pay some neet on Sup Forums instead of a big corporation.
Andrew Green
So what, you are a computational biologist and a NEET at the same time?
Brayden Nelson
there are FREE trials you mongoloid. Fuck off.
Henry Parker
Pretty much.. But I can't afford a place big enough to run a computer 24/7 without the fans keeping me awake. I just want to be able to start a compute job and forget about it for a few weeks/months until it's done. I'm looking for a long time thing, some other neet who will be running their servers for years to come..
Sebastian Cook
>FREE trials
Are you saying I can run a CPU core 24/7 for a month for free? Link please.
James Long
fucking google it you retard
Kevin Morales
Tell me what the catch is first, nigger.
Juan Cooper
i'm not spoonfeeding you
Luke Robinson
I'm not interested in a trial anyways, I've been doing this for years and I'll continue doing it for years so I need something stable.
Jaxon Flores
You could buy a VPN install blender and figure out how to run it through the comand line.
Samuel Sanchez
>I need at least one core and 2 GB of ram, ideally 4GB of ram. And 10-15 GB of HDD space. You can build a computer for less than $250. Even less if you have some of the parts around
OP is looking to stimulate his particle not simulate them
Sebastian Parker
nigga if you are a real researcher get your lab to pay for it
I'm in computational biology (genetics) and I have two rigs: work and home, paid for from grants. I also have access to two servers, one with infinite wall time to run my own stuff
Ryder Nelson
I already have a computer, I use it to do simulations during the day. But I can't bear the fan at night.
Nathaniel Barnes
.Blend.exe you mean
William Clark
I'm not a real researcher. I do this for my own education and because I enjoy it.
Ayden Miller
Solution: put the computer in another room
Luke Collins
Why can't you do it on a Raspberry Pi or something like that? Seems simple enough
Jacob Barnes
>Solution: put the computer in another room
Oh, why didn't I think of that? I'll just go buy a bigger house with spare rooms. Thanks, user.
Because a 4 week simulation would be a 4 year simulation on a Pi.. And because Blender is x86-64.
Jaxson Barnes
AWS has a free tier where you get a node for free for one year, check it out if that would be enough for your computation.
Austin Rogers
I can give you a vm with 2 xeon cores, 4GB ram and 10Gb storage for cheap. I'd give you access to it, and put the files on it but probably block the rest of the internet because cp. Is that fine? All you need is blender, the project and ssh access right? I'm in Australia so power is pricy, but since this server is always on I'd only charge you a bit. Like around $10 usd in Btc?
Luis Moore
Sounds good to me. I suppose I could use SSH, but I'd have to figure out how to start the simulation with no GUI. I'm sure I could figure that out though. If you want, I can send my project files and you can just start the simulations from within blender. No internet needed at all.
$10 sounds fine, but what is it for? Duration of a project, or a specific amount of hours of compute, or?
Single Xeon, 4 Cores, 4 threads 3GHz and 8GB of RAM starting, 150GB of disk space, $15 bucks per month located in the US with 50mb down, 10 mb up and in your own VLAN. Happy to set up a OpenVPN network on the VLAN as well.
Im a system administrator in my day job.

Move it to the kitchen. I once bought old hardware from a guy who had his battlestation literally in the kitchen.
Shit, I'll need to actually get off my arse and get my desktop running. 6600k, 32GB ram, like 500gb disk, mostly unused except in the evenings... IFF I get it running.
