Thinking of getting a T430s for my gf, needs a portable notebook for studying architecture and should run some CAD software

would make i5 to i7 a big difference for running CAD?

or better get one with the NVS 5400M?

>tfw microSSD for my X220 arrived

I just ordered a yoga 370. Legit thinkpad owner coming through.

>through the power of autism I have made all local ebay chink battery sellers pull their old listings because their advertised capacity did not match the real capacity
I don't know what they expect advertising their batteries as being 5200mAh when they are 4400mAh.

Does Lenovo site do Black Friday sales?
Wondering if we can get a sale price on top of the employee discount.

This has been a good week.

I can't stop buying thinkpads like you. What are going to do with your batch, user?

Put the order in with the company, Toaster stickers habbening. White will be foil and the stickie will be 3" long.

I'll post the samples when I get 'em

How's 12" laptops for watching chinese cartoon?

I've got a job that's require me to stay over some days at a time away from my main machine.
I'll probably get either X220/X230, Or should I go for the tablet version?

need a thinkpad for work anyone recommend a cheap ish one

I'm starting a new job, and I'm thinking of getting a X1C 5th gen with 16GB of RAM, 500GB SSD, and WQHD screen using the Corporate Perks discount for around $1400. I've heard the i7 throttles, so I think I'll opt for the i5-7300.

Is this not a smart time to buy a laptop because of the potential increase in overall cores that will be coming out with the next generation of Intel and/or AMD processors?

Hopefully the T60 is the version that supports Libreboot, so I can install Gentoo and have the ultimate Sup Forums machine. The pastebin says the other two will support it by 2018 so for now I'll just Coreboot them with CloverOS on the T420 and Slackware on the X220.

Make more autism hats pls

I watch mine on an 8 inch tablet, so I'm sure 12 inches is great. The problem is the resolution, but 768p is fine given that most anime is 720.

>The problem is the resolution
I doubt it would be an issue for me, except maybe with playback.
I was more concerned at the distance of which I can watch it from.
That's why I was contemplating the tablet version over the laptop version.

you could get a T420/30, isn't that much heavier to carry around as a X220/30

Unless you need it to be a laptop too, you might want to look at the Nvidia shield tablet. 1920x1200, front-facing stereo speakers, and pretty good battery life.

I already have T420.
But as I said I need the extra luggage space for other necessities.
Or I could go for a cheap android tablet like suggested.
Or go for MiniPC.

What is up with that kid's fucked up eye?

How can I map the middle click trackpoint scroll of my rt3200 in linux?
I've seen it discussed here before.

I have a Latitude D810 and I'm considering replacing the processor it came with for the
Intel Pentium M 770 SL7SL 533MHZ 2.13/GHz 2MB CPU Processor.

Will this require soldering or is more plug and go? Having trouble finding info about this laptop

I need a laptop in a hurry but I don't have any money. is there anything I can get for like $200-300? I don't have time to look around for used stuff so it has to be something I can pick up in a big box store. all I need it to do is go on the internet and play my chinese cartoons.

>it has to be something I can pick up in a big box store

well it needs to be something I can just go in and pick up from somewhere.

Love you user

What kind of work

I can't wait!

New battery came in the mail, now I have two extra brand new batteries for my X200. Thanks Lelnono!

I also recently figured out that R400's exist... They're just T400's but thicker apparently. Should I buy one and Libreboot it?

Looks great! How big are they?

Where can I find autistic Sup Forums stickers?

Getting a new ThinkPad and putting a blank lid on.

it's says it in his post

Hurpdurp, was too busy looking at the pic. That's a good size, not too big. Just hope the foil isn't too flashy, either.

T430

Resolution is not a problem at all. 1366x768 on a 12" screen is 120ppi. Keep in mind that desktop GUIs re mostly optimized for 90ppi

Read the fucking OP

We're talking about watching stuff though.

Yeah but my point is, a 768p 12" screen is sharper than your regular 24" 1080p desktop screen. It's all about ppi.

Fair enough, but a 1080p 14" laptop screen is better.

1600x900 is a bit more convenient at that size because 1080p would require scaling so you couldn't possibly avoid Windork 10

So I'm posting from my new x220. What now?

Also I kinda feel empty without my 800GB porn collection, but this only has a three-hundred something GB disk. But I did scp all my meme pictures already.

If you want maximum storage get an mSATA SSD (slower than regular SATA but still OK for OS) and a 1TB HDD

>What now?
dock and ips screen

>but this only has a three-hundred something GB disk
good thing you can use two drives on it

Anyway how shit will War Thunder run on an x220? I can't play on desktop anymore since my AMD card is not supported anymore by them on Linux so I get artifacts up the ass.

>hd3000
very shit

Laptop for my little sister in college.
What would be the best bet for something that would be completely useful in 5 year's time?

I put my x230 and T430 in front of her and she prefers the T size.

Is a T430 good enough or is it better to get her a T450/T460 (non "p" version) or similar?

Anything else is bullshit designed for destroying the eyes of the user or force him to scale the screen content.

>tfw M4800 master race

if you have to ask then don't get a tablet
the tablets were made for specific people for specific uses, you would know if you were part of this group

Emulators i guess.

>tfw a friend has a 13.3" HP laptop with QHD display
man how do you even use that thing without scaling

>if you have to ask then don't get a tablet
I was thinking of getting a tablet just for the hinge.
That way I can watch without worrying about pressing something and using it like "a tablet", though the pen might be handy for taking notes.

if you don't mind a 4 lbs tablet then go for it
and pen+paper is always superior

>pen+paper is always superior
of course.
>4 lbs tablet
Weight is not important as size for me.

Basically I need something that I can use to read books, watch anime and be small in size and sturdy.

they are nearly the size of the 14" T-series

This just arrived today! For the past 4 years my daily driver has been an M6400, so having a 3rd gen i5 is a nice upgrade

I find watching anime to be comfiest on tablets. The x220t seems to have some problems with the digitizer, so I would recommend the x230t

>nearly the size of the 14" T-series
What?
>I find watching anime to be comfiest on tablets
This is what I'm after.
Do you fold it and rest it on your chest?
How's the digitizer?

Not him but the digitizer is okay-ish. It's certainly not the best and I wouldn't do artwork with it (though it has been done)
It was made for note taking and it does this exeptionally well if you ask me.

Why not just get a tablet then?

Because a regular tablet is not a Thinkpad

X230t dimensions: 305mm x 229mm x 31.3mm
T430 dimensions: 340.5mm x 232mm x 29.9mm

it's not as wide as the T430 but it has the same length and thickness, also the tablets are quite a bit bigger than the non-tablet and the tablet can only take a 6-cell battery while the non-tablet and T-series can get 9-cell batteries

it is not a tablet replacement, they are big and heavy

So? You just want to watch cartoons, right?

I'm used to a Kindle Fire(Quite a bit lighter) but the weight doesn't seem too bad for the position you're referring to. When my arms start to burn from the lack of blood flow I just sit up a bit
The digitizer is sort of funky right out of the box. After calibration, it's a lot more accurate(There's a little dot that tells you where it's clicking anyhow)
The important thing about the tablet series is that they all come equipped with an IPS screen. Part of the reason why I chose the x230t is because when you factor in the price of an x220/30 with the price of buying an IPS display to swap in, the prices become a lot closer.
Oh, and in tablet form the screen rotates (I plan on using it to read Manga)

a regular tablet can probably take more of a beating than an X-series tablet, the corners of the lid and palm rest are plastic and extremely prone to breaking, along with the rubber screen holders on the sides of the keyboard, it is very rare to find a used one which doesn't already have those things broken off

Because of this and I want to have a proper OS, unless you know of a tablet that runs Linux.

>rotate
Neat, how's GNU/Linux support for that?

How can I get a free battery?

scriber gtfo my board reeeeee

with luck
support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/hf004122

Not sure. Google says it works fine, but consider my words as hearsay
I was planning on installing Ubuntu on a Msata ssd later on

The x series laptop are not durable(atleast as compared to t series). They are more prone to breaking, mostly due to their smaller footprint. They don't have a roll cage too. Seriously, Why do you guys recommend them?
>inb4 bait
I'm really not baiting, m8.

This is what you want: github.com/martin-ueding/thinkpad-scripts

Works great for my x230t

>they don't have a rollcage
But they do.

Nope. I just watched the disassembly of both x220 and x230. No roll cage was found

Not really, the lid and chassis are magnesium but there's no metal under the palm rest and especially around the top edge of the screen where the wifi antennas are. My x230 has lasted through 5 years of daily abuse and grad school but it's got one chipped corner, cracked palm rest, some deep gouges in the soft touch coating, and I'm on the 2nd keyboard and battery.

>$315
why the FUCK don't you own a W series?

2big4me, don't need a dedicated GPU and my 14" thinkpad has fhd ips and quad core option.

SHOW ME WHAT U GOT

Did you miss the big metal chassis on top of the screen and on the bottom of the device?
