MacOS X

Ubuntu with some sketchy Windows emulating software
Or Zorin OS
Whatever you want I guess
Steam supports a lot of games that run on Linux

SteamOS

The following is pasta, it's not to argue against anyone in this thread, it's just useful info:
Not him but the no games argument is not true anymore. Windows is the best os for gaming mostly due to most game developers are trained into developing for it with microsoft's closed APIs, so the simple process of porting a game that was developed for windows to any other platform will affect negatively the performance of the game. This with the fact that the marketshare is small compared to windows there's hardly an incentive at the moment to optimize for linux, making look as if the platform were worse for games than windows when in fact to flip the situation you'll need to change the idiosyncrasies on the industry itself.

The fact though is that the situation on linux is not nearly the same than two years ago and now those who prefer linux over windows now can play games on it, helping to break the vicious circle, but still there's a lot of things to do for linux to compete in the gaming side. I anyone wants for this to change i recommend to play the games you can on linux when possible and ask for linux ports.

I notice some people doesn't want's for this to happen but if that the case let me ask (not directed specifically to the person i'm replying): how are any of you benefited in a meaningful way with the current situation? because i consider that keeping the statu quo just to have a tool to win an argument on what OS is better is not a meaningful thing. how having less options and practically being locked to MS products benefits you?

ps4/switch/wiiu/3ds OS

There is one called SuperGamer (really) but it's pretty dead

PS2 with linux

Switch/Wii U/3DS is Nintendo propietary OS.
PS4 is FreeBSD, not Linux.

Last I understood 3DS and switch also use some FreeBSD. Probably about as much as ps4.

Nintendo's proprietary os is freebsd too

Fun fact: the Switch actually runs a modified version of FreeBSD.

You can make almost any distro be a gaming platform. Depending on your powerlevel though I advice distros which you are more familiar, and knowing they have the packages needed to run games.

That said, PCLinuxOS I think comes with every codec and nonfree binaries by default so is ready for vidya ootb. Check it.

This pasta serves its purpose. We need more pasta like this.

It's GNU/Linux.

Manjaro due to AUR and not having to worry about breaking the system because the Manjaro repos are a buffer for that, just subscribe to the newsletter and watch for any warnings before you DO update shit, after the first install.
Most of the emulators you want, and steam and shit, are on the primary repos or on the AUR.
AUR is slightly daunting if you know jack shit, but basically, just follow the prompts. It's best if you look over the build documents but fuck it if you don't know how to read that shit.

Zorin OS is actually pretty comfy even for daily use. Not gonna lie. I have the ultimate edition pirated on my laptop and it's pretty nice. Everything you need for windows compatibility is already there so it's acceptable to use. I use that Zorin machine specifically for Flash animation and Photoshop

>SuperGamer
>Website is now a casino site
SuperGamer was awesome :(

Good thing we have Steam and GOG.
Just get a distro that's up to date and you're fine.
Best supported are Ubuntu LTS and Arch based.

SteamOS

Follow the prompts? Lel that's what pamac is for.

I know, it's just there's a lot of people with the classic "linux has no games" or the "linux only has indie hipster shit so it doesn't count" argument. At this point i don't know if they're just trolls, people desperate to not lose the "ebin os wars" (the games argument was an important one and it's not hard for me to see some fanatics looking for ways to convince people it's still valid) or if it's an actual smear campaign. Whatever it is the only way to combat that is with real information so people can decide by themselves after hearing both sides.

Absolutely.
