i wonder if anyone pronounces /bin the same way they do the "bin" in binary, like "bine"
Because people don't give a shit
Everyone know trash goes in etc....
sudo rm -rf /etc
That'll fix you right up!
better yet:
sudo chmod -r 0000 /
Neat!
Short for desktop services store.

In case you're not trolling: Wikipedia has an article explaining the Linux "Filesystem Hierarchy Standard," and could help fill you in the use of the system directories. It's a good read.

WHY NOBODY TELL ME THIS SOONER
WOW64 is "windows 32 on windows 64”
Great naming there microsoft
It does though.
Guess the architecture of the libraries in System32.
This is what happen when you use proprietary software and try to be as backwards compatible as possible (also see x86).
>/boot isn't where you out files to get kicked out of storage
>x32 does n*ot exist
that's where you're wrong, kiddo
en.wikipedia.org
"x64" is meaningless
it's a microsoft-only thing they use because they first made a 64bit windows for Itanic, calling that one "64bit edition"
when it came time to make a version for amd64, they couldn't call that "64bit edition" as well, as that'd be confusing
"wow64" (windows [32bit] on windows 64bit) is the name of the subsystem in windows 64bit that allows for 32bit windows software support
basically like multilib in linux
so "syswow64" is the "system" folder for wow64, i.e, 32bit software on 64bit windows
when a 32bit program on 64bit windows accesses "system32", it's actually directed to the syswow64 folder
It used to mean user but since /home was introduced 'Unix system resources' has been a more descriptive name.
>saying "because" when there was no question asked
the unix filesystem layout is fucking unintuitive
wait, are you sure?
Need sores for that
microsoft should just drop support for 32bit programs just like they dropped 16bit support
there is no reason for 32bit to exist
>b-but muh RAM is under 4GB
windows 64bit also works on machines with 2GB
>b-but some professional softwares still are 32bit
the developers of the professional software can just recompile it to 64bit
>b-but the developers abandoned support for said professional software
either the devs change it to support 64bit or it's time to choose another professional software instead
>b-but muh old legacy games from 2003
either devs fix it or it gets the same treatment as 16bit games got
80(1)86 -> (32-bit) x86 is different from x86 -> x86_64
(you)
pretty sure you can strip out WOW64 using ntlite

It's a lot older of a meme than that.
Also it's a really good game unlike that dad one.
This is fucking genius. I always wanted to browse man pages with emacs bindings, since I hate having to re-learn the (admittedly short list of) vi-style bindings used to operate the manual otherwise.
What game is it?

Why the hell do Americans think this is respectful?
Canadians too, since the PM wore Islamic socks.
Funny how if he did that in an Islamic country he would get thrown off a roof
Because we're not dumb enough to think that proudly displaying something we look up to on socks is disrespectful.
all the root directories were originally separate disks on some original unix mainframe
when /usr/ ran out of space they made /home and separated their functionalities
>implying microcuck would drop legacy compatibility, the only thing keeping them relevant
That's exactly what they're working on with the windows store. They're trying to use their legacy userbase pressure to build up enough store exclusives to keep alive if they ditch x86.
