What is the ideal laptop screen size?

What is the ideal laptop screen size?

>15"
>"large"
since when?
last i checked, 15.4" was the median, and 17"+ was large

Wtf I use 15 on the go

It is a bit big I will admit

Been using a 11" Macbook air for three years now, is a good size.
Had a 14" 21:9 toshiba, liked it too. It was actually shorter than my current 11", about the height of an average 10"
I do like 10, but also really love the Vaio P's size, for the sake of the keyboard. I'd like smaller for pocketability, but by that point you start sacrificing the keyboard.
Really, I'd need 20 or so different mockups in front of me to tell you the ideal shape and size.

14 inch boiiii

I hate watching movie on a laptop, shitty screen and shitty comfort.
If i want to watch a movie i sit on my sofa in front of my 4k screen.

I think 13-15.6" is ideal. Any larger and it's too big to be decently portable, any smaller and the screen and keyboard becomes a pain to use.

Perfect size is 13.1-14.1". I used to have a 12.1" laptop and it was way too small, used it with an external screen most of the time.

>11"
That's a tablet.

I have my 12.1" now and I wish it had higher res

12.1" 1280×800px HYDIS AFFS screens are perfect.

>laptop
It's for retarded kids. Real people use desktop computers

desktop replacement: 19"+
big: 17"+
normal: 15"+
tiny: 13"+
manlet:

My work laptop has a 13 in display. I like it, just large enough to work on it when I take it off the dock but small enough to be portable and easy to use. I only have a work laptop, I just have my desktop at home and don't really have the need for a laptop outside of work.

27" because I am a man and I can carry heavy stuff.

I had an alienware 18 and it was still too small

>27" b-b-because I a-am a m-m-an and I can c-carry heavy s-stuff.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon

I do to but before normal faggots knew how to screen cast they all watched Netflix on their laptops.

are you not a man user?

My personal preference is 14" (bonus points if it has a 13" footprint). I wouldn't mind if more manufacturers would copy XPS 15s form factor, it's a beaut.

>strictly home use
just get a fucking PC

>mainly home use with occasional usage on the go
15''

>mainly mobile use
13''

anything below that are fucking toys

13.3 or 14.1

...

how are the 1st and 2nd gen models of this? i see a lot of them being sold by refurb companies for super cheap with i7's/i5's. any particular reason they're so cheap compared to something like the 3rd gen?

...

12.1" 4:3

14"

>hard-core gamers
>laptop

>since when?

Since tablets became mainstream and everyone became infatuated with the concept of ultra-portability.

you mean media tablets?
15" was normal size for tablet pc's, too

People who go outside use laptops
People who think like you are manchildren

>outside
>laptop
Mate, if you use laptops outside, you are a hipster.
The only reason to use laptop if you use it at home and at work, but if you do than you are a retarded wagecuck.
Normal companies give employees computers
>but muh work from home
If you work from home in your free time, you should consider suicide

>Mate, if you use laptops outside, you are a hipster
Not even remotely

I think he means the consumer-grade Tablet PC, not the professional grade graphics tablet, since that's far from mainstream...

Give 1 reason why you use laptops outside

13". Just get an monitor/keyboard/mouse/docking station for home if you don't have a desktop.

It's nice outside. Why should I choose between nature and computing when I can have both?

11" - cancer
13" - okay
15" - okay
17" - kill yourself gaymer

I use mine when I travel, be it for work or on holidays.

>sorry mr finklestein i cant show you the stuff i developed because my alienware gaymer desktop was too heavy to bring to the interview

t. you

literally the only people who still have desktops are either pathetic manchild "le pc master race" gaymers or successful developers who need extra power, all of whom have the money to afford a laptop for portability when necessary

12.5"

>t. hipster
You should enjoy being outside, interact with the outside

well, his picture is a media tablet
not talking about graphics tablets, those are of course special purpose

13" is the perfect size.
anything less and your keyboard is cramped, anything more and you look ridiculous

14" with a bezel-less design might still be good, but i haven't looked into notebooks for a while

I'm not saying to never just enjoy nature, I'm saying that if I am going to be computing and it is nice outside, there is literally no reason not to combine the two.

I am not a gamer, I have grown out of it a few years ago.
I use a desktop, because it's has a huge screen, normal keyboard, ethernet port, more than 2 port etc
>but I can plug those into a laptop too
Than why buy a laptop if you are going to use it as a desktop
Also enjoy damaging you neck since it's not in level with the screen

17", 1680x1050 resolution. It's what I use.

14.1" 4:3 is the best form factor I've ever used.

It ends up being the perfect width to fit a full-size keyboard with a proper layout, and the perfect height to allow for a properly-sized palm rest. It's also very portable while allowing for good usable display area without everything on-screen being too small. 4:3 aspect ratio allows for good vertical resolution without unnecessary width. 14.1" 1400x1050 is absolutely fantastic - enough resolution to still be quite usable even in the current year, but PPI not so high as to create difficulty reading or require scaling.

I don't see any reason for laptops to be smaller because they're not really any more portable beyond this, and you just end up with less display area and usability.

I really miss my T42. RIP in pieces old friend.

Tried working outside when I had a laptop a while back, but it was way too distracting

When I fly my drones I use it to receive telemetry information.

Checkmate

>no trackpad
How, and why?

Objectively the answer is 14.1"

Very portable yet just big enough to get by as an all-purpose machine for coding, writing, browsing, and media consumption.

That is a good reason

what do you mean how and why?
it is a thinkpad, you re supposed to use the nipple

it all depends on the bezel sizes/laptop weight in all honesty

13.3 to 14 is the sweet spot

You can (or at least could years back) order a touchpad-less palm rest from IBM service parts for 14.1" T4x series machines. I'm not sure if they ever sold the machines with this pre-installed, and they are rare to see simply because few people even knew it existed let alone would actually bother to order one and swap it out. If I recall correctly it was only around $30 with shipping.

I just did it because it looks cool, it's a rare special snowflake thing, and I am a TrackPoint fan with zero interest in using a touchpad if a TrackPoint is available.

Anyway the machine developed backlight problems, eventually got all kinds of plastic cracking without ever being abused, and eventually succumbed to the common GPU failure due to flexing and poor solder, which put the final nail in its coffin. I removed the touchpad-less palm rest and tried to sell it on eBay, cheap even with a "make offer", but nobody even made an offer, so I ended up donating it to Goodwill along with some other stuff I think.

13"-15.6"

I have a 13.3 and it's ideal for web browsing and taking notes but I can't do any work on it(program) for that I would much prefer something like a 15". 1080p would be my ideal resolution for either size.

His picture is an iPad, it's a "tablet PC"... Unless you mean the system's locked up and limits you to "media", then equivalent in size and spec Android tablets are "media tablets" when unrooted and not when rooted, and Windows 10 tablets are never "media tablets"...
Or are you including those 2-in-1 as tablets that aren't "media"?
Still, the norm for medium tablets is between 10-12", and for 2-in-1s (which are more to the side of laptop than tablet, and not the ones with removable keyboard, since those are just tablets with attached keyboards - also usually smaller) is around 11-13".

I like 15.6". Too small and I hate the keyboards. If I want larger I use my second 27" monitor to plug it into. My hands are really big believe me. It's why I need that note 8 so bad.

15" 1080p. There are both lightweight laptops with that, and gaymen thicc 'laptops' in this form factor.

11 inches at a resolution of 1280 by 800

12-13 if you are moving a lot.
If not 15.
17 is a joke.
