Don't bully my X230 please.

was in the last thread asking about upgrades, I just bought a refurbished t400

what did you guys pay for yours (without any upgrades of course)

weakest stupidest excuse ever retard

pls respond

How much are you willing to pay?

never stop looking at previous thread till its archived kiddo

It's going to be my first and only laptop so I'm pretty flexible with the budget, I'd say max 600 euros, that's a lot for Thinkpads right? If it's less than that I'm going to add an SSD, if it's not included.

$85 seems fair but it better be in good condition

ebay.com/itm/LENOVO-ThinkPad-T440s-Multitouch-IPS-FHD-i7-512-SSD-12-Ram-Win10-GARANTIE-/272802983285

Why an "s" model though? Aren't they just slimmer but worse in other aspects?

when you guys replace the hdd with an ssd do you normally switch out the disk drive for the old hdd for dual drives or just let it be?

whats the cheapest thinkpad with oled screen?

msata ssd + ssd + ultrabay 1TB porn storage ftw

can't see what's worse, doesn't run hot and you still get 6-8 hours with that model.

Thanks, it looks good. How's the keyboard and the touchpad? I noticed there are no physical buttons on the touchpad so I might have to change it.

>oled screen
On a business laptop

you can easily swap it with a 450s touchpad

>P51 arrives today
>can't wait to LARP as a high powered business workstation user

I'm gonna be using Stata in my coming semester, and I'm looking for a new laptop. Old one is quite literally falling apart after years of use. I've heard good things about Lenovo, so I'm looking a decent Lenovo laptop for Stata.

>high powered business workstation user
use thin clients to servers.

get a W model with a QM cpu

Starting programming at Uni, but the problem is I'm from Finland and all the cheap thinkpads I find have US keyboards. Are there any cheap Nordic ones or am I screwed? Need 8GB RAM and decent enough battery life to survive full days at uni.

there are plenty of cheap refurbs from Sweden where I live, you should find one easily, don't you nordniggers have like a craigslist or something?

Finnish Craigslist is dead, random Finnish sites don't seem to have much. All newer ones and much more expensive.

I didn't mean craigslist as actual craigslist

kvalitetsdatorer.se/se/art/lenovo-thinkpad-t420-14-hd-led-3g.php

what's your budget? have you checked murobbs?

That one looks a bit expensive once you add RAM and SSD, but will look around on that site.

500-600e at most. Been checking a bunch of Finnish sites but forgot about muro, will check. Some site had a bunch of otherwise decent ones but they all had a 3 hour battery life. I ended up looking at UK ones also since the keyboards are similar enough that I could just swap the language in OS settings and try to memorize the special stuff.

Why would you need an extra 3.3V power supply when you already have a Pi? A small flash chip draws fuck all, the Pi's 3.3V regulator should be able to handle it.

>swap the language in OS settings and try to memorize the special stuff.
just a regular cheap thinkpad and a new keyboard if thats such a big deal

>TFW using an ultra thin client as server

>s
but he said good cpu, not soldered ulv shit

>500-600e at most

In that case you could afford something from vstore.fi and get a one year warranty as well. Of course they're pretty expensive to be second hand but there's much less to worry about.

Just buy a replacement keyboard. I have like 4 US keyboards laying around because i have to change them every time.

>I'm gonna shit on your recommendation instead of recommending something that I think it's better
every time

>HD 3000
>drops frames when doing 1080 60

change the s for a p, done

Never even heard of such a site, looks pretty decent. Gonna look at these.

I could try this too, if it's not too complicated to change them. I found a cheap X1 Carbon on ebay with a UK keyboard. Just not sure which gen it is so no idea which keyboard replacement it needs.

T440p with touchpad swap and and quad core and whatever ips it supports if you want a good screen
T430 with classic keyboard and quad core if you care more about the keyboard
Get out of here nigger

whats everyones opinion on the $900 i5 x270

I paid less for a T420 on ebay. Under $80 dollars.

Why would you willingly purchase a thinkpad with an inferior keyboard? I thought the whole point was the keyboard.

>MFW i'm really using an Hp thn client as a server

17 hour battery life

nothin inferior about it

T440 or X240? Both about the same price.

t440p

I bought link related:

ricardo.ch/kaufen/computer-und-netzwerk/notebooks-und-zubehoer/intel/core/core-i7/lenovo-thinkpad-t440s-i7-8gb-240gb-ssd/v/an932763932/?utm_source=42_de&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=rtm_core&utm_content=body_img

Surely can't be that bad for the price, right?
I fell for so many Sup Forums memes I don't want to run into buyer's remorse again....

they have quite a few differences, it depends what you want

eh if you don't need a better processor sure

I would prefer having the p version with socketed replaceable cpu and quad core options, optical drive slot for a second or third drive and that sweet 9-cell battery.

University. X240 looks lighter and has a better battery life, not sure what other differences there are.

How much better is the T400s compared to T400? Price difference is pretty big.

I needed a decent linux laptop with something better than a 720p screen for my bachelor's thesis (some code monkey Java EE shit). CPU power was secondary, I have a 13" MBP (non retina) with a 2.9GHz Core i7 with plenty of cpu power but a shitty, useless 720p screen.

What weirds me out a bit is the fact that I sold my 2012 11" MacBook Air (Core i5 1.7 GHz, 4GB memory, 64 GB of SSD storage and a 720p display) for 500 fucking mountain shekels whilst only paying 360 for that thinkpad...really makes you think.

it's worse

>tfw got an X230 for $75
>seller listed a bunch of issues
>most weren't nearly as bad as he said they were
>laptop is in near perfect condition
^_^

Just size and battery life. I can't remember if the T440 has a CD drive.

Hey CIA niggers, I need to get a laptop for my studies. Would you recommend a Thinkpad Ultrabook T440? There's a company selling used business laptops and they got it on sale for 520€. 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128GB SSD (probably swapping it for a bigger HDD).

no
>128GB SSD (probably swapping it for a bigger HDD)
why the hell would you do that retard

>520€
look my post
Even in Mountainisrael you will pay less than 520 euro...520 euro for a T440 seems way overpriced.

128GB feels pretty darn small. The studies include a ton of media shit in the future too.
I can't really find it cheaper domestically.

x220 owner here
Laptop is smol, cute and does the job really well. Can compile stuff pretty fast

requirements:
>6hr+ battery life
>temps under 50C-55C
>weight ~2kg
>emulate ps1/2, play classic pc games
>stream content (720p)

unimportant:
>build and durability
>*nix support (it will run bsd/win10)
>keyboard, track-pad, track-point
>screen
>ports and connections
>upgradeability (i will disassemble it once completely, clean it, upgrade it and leave it alone for a decade)

if you have something to recommend please state what you own and how long you have used it for. the laptop i will purchase will replace a 10 year old Toshiba (15.4", Core2 Duo, GM965 chipset) which is not worth upgrading due to weight and insufficient return on performance.

then get a bigger ssd or external hard drive or something, or just get a thinkpad that can hold two 2.5" drives (t440 is not one of them)

but downgrading from an ssd to an hdd is the worst thing you could do and you will immediately realize your mistake after you reinstall whatever OS you would have put on the HDD

I've never had an SSD in my life user. While I agree that SSD is faster, I dunno if it would bother me to have an HDD. Prioritizing disk space over speed.

>I've never had an SSD in my life user.

that explains why you would make such a dumb decision

>t440
either go t440p or x240, the rest are slimmer abominations between them that don't do anything better than these two

Where do you live?

Finland. Just noticed those posts by the other Finnish dude, so I'm kinda in the same boat with that guy. Also found this other store called teraset.net which seems to be carrying used business laptops for fairly good prices.

>list everything except price
fucking retard

my x230

sounds like someone is just jealous, desu

>hey look I spent all this time and money to turn a x230 into a x220, you're jealous right? right?
lmao

my sister's laptop died, a fresh new t470 is in the mail, and out of the ashes of her old machine i have scrounged
-6gbs of ddr3l (one 2gb dimm, one 4gb dimm)
-32gb m.2 ssd
-750gb HDD
and some intel network adapter. i know i can use the 4gb dimm and the 750gb drive, but is the rest useful for my t420 (arriving in about a week)

you can get a M.2 to 2.5" adapter

not really, the t420 has an msata slot but doesn't have an m.2 slot

i got all the upgrades for free as a gift and it took me about 1 day to get it all working :^)
plus x230 has better igpu and cpu so i get the best of both worlds

stay angery

thinkpads masterrace

>i got all the upgrades for free as a gift
sure you did

i did my homework on m.2 adapters and it looks like i can get an m.2 to msata adapter for like 10 bucks but it ships from chinkland so i'd get it in like 20 days

Using the trackpoint makes my finger sore after a while and it starts to hurt. My feminine hands can't handle something so masculine. I think I need to switch to a Mac instead.

was a hand me down from a friend
i only paid 150 for laptop refurb

indeed you can but the m.2 ssd needs to be smaller than the msata adapter so size 2248 or smaller, otherwise it won't fit.

or just do this , the t420 can use 3 drives anyway

>was a hand me down from a friend
sure it was

it's like half the length of most m.2 ssds i've seen, is that enough? this stuff is all coming from a haswell toshiba satellite, so it might even just BE msata, idk if haswell mobile supported m.2

I have both an x230 and x220 but I personally prefer my x230 since intel hd 4000 and desu the chicklet keyboard hate is a meme its not bad at all and it feels really nice imo

Why would you want to unlock bios?
> making an x230 an x220
thats like making a rolex into a casio

measure it, if it's 22mm x 42mm it should be alright

and yes haswell does, the t440p uses an m.2 ssd

First for Fujitsu Lifebook, got a p702 from 2011, still a workhorse and can manage simpler games on lower settings. Comfy as can be.

A) this dummy doesn't even use airport bombing watches, everyone please ridicule him now
B) this isn't equivalent at all, as the x230's keyboard is, or so i've been told, not as good as the x220's

That's a very unusual price, unless it was in particularly poor condition

>Why would you want to unlock bios?

use 3rd party battery
use dual band AC card
disable Turbo Boost so I instantly get -10 C during cpu loads
switch alpm mode from slumber to partial if you got a ssd
disable intel ME features
modify active trip points for the fan
disable event log
set ram to 1866mhz

My X201T shipped today, I'm getting hype. First Thinkpad

How much would you pay for a t430 with Nvidia dGPU (NVS 5400M>? I found one (model 2349-G4G) with 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, i5 3320M, the standardintel HD 4000 iGPU and a somewhat bad battery that lasts 2 hours for €260.
Is it too much? I can buy another one that's basically the same without the Nvidia GPU for €160.

the nvs is a meme why would you game on a thinkpad, the 4400 is decent enough for old games

*HD4000

Why the tablet version? I really regret getting the X220t, screen is nice but it feels really flimsy compared to the normal one and the touch input isn't what I would consider useful

Is T440 that bad? I heard x240 has some end/insert button weirdness and I'll need those.

Did you buy the T440? Noticed it's gone from the site I was looking at. Other Finn here.
