Try to format an external hard drive on windows

>try to format an external hard drive on windows
>format hangs
>freezes up
>try again
>freezes again
>try through disk management
>actually works this time for whatever reason
>Windows refuses to assign it a drive letter
>"fuck this"
>plug said external hard drive into my thinkpad running linux
>open gparted
>create a new partition table
>format
>done
>mount it
>it just werks
>try to use it in Windows
>"sorry this hard drive isn't using a file system Windows recognizes :^)"
>have to format again to NTFS because Windows doesn't understand ext4 file systems
>at least it formatted correctly this time
Windows is a piece of dog shit I only keep around to play games. If all Windows games suddenly worked on Linux tomorrow I wouldn't hesitate to switch.

At least Macs support file systems from other OS's goddamn.

Yet another reason to purchase the new Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display.

I think everyone who isn't technically inept feels the same way.

if windows doesn't support it then it's a meme that doesn't need to be supported anyway

Faggot.

what the fuck is this linux shit

Is this a joke or are you a retard?

No.

It's not just vIDeO GaYmes.
There's tons of industry standard software on Windows that has no equal alternative on Linux. Then there's the dozen or so software I personally made for myself which is Windows only.

>random capitalization
kill yourself

This

>industry standard software on Windows that has no equal alternative on Linux
Name one.

Don't say PhotoShop, either. PhotoShop isn't an industry and has nothing to do with anything. It's an expensive Instagram filter app for mactoddlers.

>PhotoShop isn't an industry and has nothing to do with anything.

Isn't there third party software that lets you read ext4 on Windows?

nu/g/

hold it
post at least 3 more akaris as thanks

>parted
fdisk pussy

the last time i used one of those it gave me a bluescreen

>Hello, I'm a pedo! Please, answer me!
Fuck off.

Cycle Tempo or Gate Cycle. If you can find better software for designing powerplant than these then I'll move to Linux.

>I can't refute his argument, better call him a pedophile
Libtard-tier argument senpai i r8 0/8

>use 2 drives
>the 2nd is unused and shouldn't be powered
>windows keeps spinning it every few minutes for no reason
>go to power settings
>can only delay the wakeup
>disable the drive
>after resetting the PC windows still rapes it

>make a live USB on Linux
>takes a minute or two
>the live distro boots and installs fast
>make a live USB on windows, on the same USB
>takes 10+ minutes
>installing from the USB is slow as fuck too

>install windows
>no WiFi or Ethernet drivers
>no generic GPU drivers
>must use another device to fetch the drivers
>no useful software ootb
>filled with bloatware
>have to fight against the OS and cripple it to disable only a small part of telemetry

Fuck windows. I'm glad I fully switched to linux over a year ago.

Or a X220

Sounds like you're the problem desu.

>Hello, I'm a pedo!
>Here is my collection of a young cartoon girls!
>Being a pedo isn't illegal at all, so mods have nothing to see here!
This place is fucking dope. I'm out.

How well does OSX work on a x220? Mainly thinking about battery life.

Fuck off normalfag

Wouldn't know
I'm too lazy to bother

If you have a iob that requires special programs you can probably afford a computer wIth enough power to run a VM with a graphics card to spare for passthrough.

What is this meme?

Works on my machine

I've had the exact same problem with formatting an old ext4 drive to fat (usb drives aren't cheap for poorfags) That failed

It crashed windows as soon as it was plugged in, for some reason

Does windows fail to read corrupt partition headers?

Stop projecting your pedophilia on others you fucking pedo. Go back to whatever danknet shithole you crawled out of.

some more pasta:
Not him but the no games argument is not true anymore. Windows is the best os for gaming mostly due to most game developers are trained into developing for it with microsoft's closed APIs, so the simple process of porting a game that was developed for windows to any other platform will affect negatively the performance of the game. This with the fact that the marketshare is small compared to windows there's hardly an incentive at the moment to optimize for linux, making look as if the platform were worse for games than windows when in fact to flip the situation you'll need to change the idiosyncrasies on the industry itself.

The fact though is that the situation on linux is not nearly the same than two years ago and now those who prefer linux over windows now can play games on it, helping to break the vicious circle, but still there's a lot of things to do for linux to compete in the gaming side. I anyone wants for this to change i recommend to play the games you can on linux when possible and ask for linux ports.

I notice some people doesn't want's for this to happen but if that the case let me ask (not directed specifically to the person i'm replying): how are any of you benefited in a meaningful way with the current situation? because i consider that keeping the statu quo just to have a tool to win an argument on what OS is better is not a meaningful thing. how having less options and practically being locked to MS products benefits you?

That's your fault and lack of foresight tho. In my case i don't feel like marrying with an OS that's why i heavily favor multi-platform software and tools. When you use platform-specific tools you're locking yourself to that platform without any benefit.

What does that even mean?

Except Photoshop IS an industry standard. Most big name 3d design and modeling apps aren't available on Linux either. Where's solidworks? Oh, nowhere in sight.

Somebody had to unironically explain windows has console.

Not that user but given the time I need to re-orient myself with using parted it's faster to open gparted.
