Is this a good laptop? Do you get bang for your buck? I like that you don't have to buy it pre-installed with Windows and the configurable options seem neat enough but I'm not really a hardware guy so definitely open to second opinions.
Dell XPS 13
Looks like it's going for form over function to me. People here are fans of Thinkpads and Elitebooks for good reason here.
That said, I know nothing about it. Feel free to go ahead and list the hardware specs.
The lamp reflection on the screen should tell you everything you need to know
That looks like an obvious ripoff of the MacBook Air, why not just go for the real thing instead?
This is the one I was looking at:
7. Gen Intel Core i7-7560U (4 MB, 3,8 GHz)
Screen 13.3" FHD AG (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge display, Non-touch
Memory 16 GB LPDDR3, 1866 MHz
Screen card Intel® Iris™ Plus Graphics 640
Hard drive 512 GB PCIe SSD
All the normal ports + one thunderbolt 3
Back-lit keys.
Costs 1990$ dollars
Sounds like they are trying to sell you crap and make you think their crap is good just because they charge more.
You can't both sell people crap AND rip them off, wtf?
Because the macbook air overheats like a motherfucker despite having terribly weak hardware.
I wouldn't buy it at half that price.
Look at this, and see how close it is: ebay.com
Then ask yourself if the laptop you're looking at could do this: youtube.com
Sounds too expensive for me at that price, can be found much cheaper.
You are getting charged XPS 15 prices, and for the 4k variant.
Dell XPS are pretty good. Used a few and they've always been well designed with good performance. You pay a premium though.
How about ThinkPad then? If you like that form factor the X1 Carbon is a good alternative.
DD'ing it right now. As hinted, you can even have Ubuntu installed out of the box. And although I run a different distro, the Linux compatibility is still top notch.
Stuff to report? The "L" on the Dell logo fell off within a week of purchase. Pathetic.
Check out the new Gen 5 Carbon as well, seems to have the same think bezels as the XPS.
The laptop is advertised as being anti-glare, for the benefit of the doubt it could be how the screen reflects light at that angle.
Fair enough, but the laptop I listed was factory new not pulled fro ebay.
>Fair enough, but the laptop I listed was factory new not pulled fro ebay.
I'm not sure what your point is. Is that like saying, "It's unfair to show me Amazon prices when I'm showing you Best Buy prices?"
Additionally I would have to pay a 20% VAT for anything bought on ebay, which was already included in the first product
That would bring the elitebook's price to 959.99. That's still well 48 percent of the price of what you were looking at.
Keep in mind that this was literally the first result that I pulled up with an i7 and 16gb of RAM. I'm sure you're paying more for shit like the backlit keyboard (which you may not care about) and the touchscreen (which you obviously don't care about).
No that's fine I'm just playing devil's advocate, but the laptop you linked is sold as refurbished which I'll assume is just as good as new but I imagine it could have a lot to do with the price difference, making it an uneven comparison.
>“GUARANTEED TO BE IN PERFFECT WORKING AND COSMETIC CONDITION. COMES WITH HP MFR WARRANTY GOOD TILL MAY, 2019”
Well, I feel "perfect working and cosmetic condition" puts it on par with "new."
The XPS with 13.3" screen has the same body size as the 11" macbook air, you fucktard.
What's the fucking difference? So they made a ~20% large MacBook air, does that make it not a ripoff?
I get bang wth your mom.
That's the 3000x2000 version. The 1080p XPS 13 has a matte display, I own one. It's a good laptop, though I got mine from Dell on sale for $850, with 256,8gb and a i5 7200u
>inb4 much coil whine
>1990$
I got an XPS 15 for 1499€.
You're being ripped off unless you live in a country where dollars are worth quite less than €. For almost 2k $ you can get the 4k XPS 15.
Same body size, bigger screen. Which part you dont understand? Also it doesnt look like an Air at all.
That distinctive wedge shaped design is clearly the MacBook air design. Changing the color of it makes little difference.
They look fucking different, you moron.
឴>adaptive brightness
Except that, if you don't mind soldered ram, the absence of ethernet port, difficulties to install gentoo (on older models) and the pricetag, it's a good laptop.
have had the 1080p model since january, keyboard easily the weakest part
That macbook is fucking ugly.
How good is the XPS as as a hackintosh?
Eventually I'll have to upgrade from my MacBook Pro and Apple has been doing some stupid stuff.
Exactly.
>over one thousand dollars for a Windows laptop
>over one thousand dollars for a laptop with no custom OS
How is this thing worth that much, where did all the expenses go?
If you want to spend >1000$ in a laptop just buy a fucking macbook
Hardware.
The shilling is real.
Matte screen protector fixes that
The beautiful display of the xps 13 makes it all worth it. The IGZO display also gives it insane battery life.
Why the fuck would I buy some shitty 1000$ Laptop with a 1440x900 screen? This is Youtube comment section level shilling at best.
>he thinks FREE BSD is expensive.
>t. mactoddlers
...
Wait for 8th gen quad core CPUs,
